Hi Paul, I just experienced another interesting behavior and hope you can help. When running picoreplayer connected to the ethernet everything runs smoothly, I can see the player in the Squeezeserver interface and play from it. When unplugging and restarting, in order to use wifi, I can still find picoreplayer on the network and can access the interface but squeezelite does not start anymore. To all, I have given up on Linux. Along with problems with LMS I have had other problems with other simple programs. It seems that the developers of Linux are stuck in the 1980s and do not want to advance into a GUI world. I had the same problems 30 years ago with Linux and I no longer have the time to play with Linux. I just screwed up the SD as it had only a 200 MB partition, and had the LMS cache still pointing at /mnt/mmcblk0p2/somewhere while doing the first scan. It ran out of data, prevented any orderly shutdown, and finally did only boot tinycore without PCP sauce. Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Linux newbie and LMS installation
EEYORE If you used a .deb file then it is definitely installed in Mint. I am certainly not a Linux expert, just a user like yourself (I'm 69 myself), but I have been "playing" with it for 5-6 years. My main desktop dual boots with Windows 10 and Ubuntu and I have 3 Raspberry Pis. So all I can do is relay my own personal experiences. Roland0 certainly could be right and the problem could be that the partition isn't mounted properly. It sounds like he is far more knowledgeable than I. However, I have never had to manually mount a hard drive. Maybe I've just been lucky but the 3 varieties of Linux I have used (Ubuntu, Mint and Raspian) have always mounted my drives automatically. All of the Disk problems I have experienced in Linux have occurred when I was trying to access an NTFS formatted disk. That is a very old Windows format and I doubt that you would be having this problem if that partition were formatted as FAT32. I have read several places that the Linux Kernal only includes read capabilities natively. The write capabilities need to be added with a separate package. It is certainly possilbe that Mint now includes that package, as Roland0 suggests, but it didn't the last time I tried it which was about 3 years ago. I know that Raspian does not include it because I had a problem last week when I installed Raspian Buster on my RPi. I can't remember if I had to add it to Ubuntu or not, it's been to long. Anyway, I have frequently thought about reformatting that drive to eliminate some of these problems but I guess I just to lazy. Give this a try, when you are booted into Mint use the File Explorer program and see if you can copy a file (any file will do) into the AUD partition. If that is successful then my suggestion probably won't help you. In that event it probably is either a partition mounting issue (as suggested) or a file access permissions issue. Sorry for your difficulty, Good luck. Defaults of output through audiojack of course. Feedback to the team: The default wired 1 Gig NIC seems a bit slow to be recognized . 0 sec - power on 18 sec - most relevant software in RAM and starting network (screen output : waiting for network ) 30 sec - link led turns on 44 sec - network initialised: ( screen output ... Done (59). 45 sec - first audio The delay between 18 and 30 seems to be the nic driver that needs to complete the initialization The delay between 30 and 44 seems the DHCP, and I will see if I can find any delay from my DHCP server response. Anyhow, it is not a complaint :-) just feedback. Thank you for the quick start on the pi4 development. It was a 1TB 3.5" disk from an old NAS that was sat in a USB3 dock thing, one of these: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Inateck-Docking-Station-Function-Tool-free/dp/B00LN0GX4I Anyway, I got another HDD, stuck the MP3 library on it and tried again. Seemed to be working (installed the NTFS file system support for the new drive) and got LMS up and running. The first scan seemed to be very quick (think it just found the folders again, no music). Manually ran another scan and that seemed to find everything. However, LMS seems unresponsive now - e.g. the main LMS main page never seems to finish loading. I can click "Settings" (bottom right on the LMS main page), and that loads. But the main page doesn't. I've tried powering it all off and on again, starting/stopping LMS etc and same thing happens. Also, when I stop/start LMS or reboot the Pi, LMS seems to "forget" the mount point. It's still there in PCP config, but when I click on "Configure LMS", it makes me pick the mount point again...
