Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Advice for new player hardware
Here's my recommendation: "Components > 'Raspberry Pi' (https://docs.picoreplayer.org/components/raspberry_pi/)" The problem you describe about "low volume levels" doesn't sound normal. I haven't seen it, but your hardware may be different. Most DAC HATs have a 0dB or a 4dB boost setting. Some of the drivers have a 24dB boost. On pCP8.0.0, Paul has added a [ALSA Mixer] button on the [Squeezelite Settings] page. I recommend doing a fresh SD card with pCP 8.0.0. Based on comments from others, installing LMS on a Pi 4 results in much faster scanning of your music collection. This may not matter to you if your collection is not large or if you don't need to do a full rescan very often. My impression is that a 3B is perfectly adequate for a player (without LMS installed on the same machine). I have a 3B running piCorePlayer as a player only, with no problems. I run LMS on a Pi 4, but it's running the standard RaspberryPiOS, not pCP. > My biggest complaint is that the audio levels I get out of one seems > significantly lower than normal. Although you did not ask for advice on this issue, if you haven't already done so, ssh into the Pi and check the levels in alsamixer. There are steps you can take to save the alsamixer settings so that they survive a reboot, but I am not familiar with the version of pCP you are using, so I'm not going to attempt to direct you there. When you touch that button and the screen goes black, touch the screen anywhere, the on/off button should appear (depends on how dark your screen is set when off), if you can't see the on/off button, it should still be there and usable, if you touch where the on/off button should be, the screen should then turn on. [SlimDevices: Unix] Advice for new player hardware
I have an LMS server running on an older distribution of PCP (5.0) with the built-in 7.9.2 version of LMS. I have 2 hardware players (an original SlimP3, and a Squeezebox Receiver, the player that's built into the server, and two more Pi's running various vintages of PCP. I want to put together another, and since it's been a while, I thought I'd look for some advice on hardware. On the Pi itself, is a 3B+ good enough, or do people think there's an advantage to the 4? The other piece I would *really* appreciate advice on is the DAC. It *could* be that my other stuff is old, but it does work, it's just that there are sometimes quirks. My biggest complaint is that the audio levels I get out of one seems significantly lower than normal. That is, when I choose that audio source on my receiver, even if the PCP software volume is all the way up, I have to turn the amp's volume much higher than I would with and other source. I'm not asking for advice in troubleshooting that issue; I've learned to live with it for the time being (it's been years...), but I would hope that with some pointers, I could avoid any such disappointment this time. I am probably looking for something in the $20-30 range. I think that gets me a step above the buit-in analog audio out from the Pi, but I am not looking for anything spectacular. But if someone had a recommendation of a specific model, along with what settings it would require, I would appreciate it. Thanks for listening :-) tastewar's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=32399 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=114838 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Announce: piCorePlayer 8.0.0
Just did a fresh install of 32 bit PiCorePlayer 8. All working ok EXCEPT SAMBA 4 is broken. Doing an install from the web-based interface. SAMBA stalls perfectly with no errors. Except that it won't start. I have done some investigating and discovered that the SAMBA4 version is NOT all the runtime dynamic libraries necessary to run. 1. smbd requires the p11-kit.tcz extension to be installed. This is a dependency for samba4 that was NOT installed. I installed it manually 2. Once I installed p11-kit.tcz, I ran smbd manually and got the following: root@musicbox:/tmp/tcloop/samba4/usr/local/etc/init.d# ./samba4 start Starting SAMBA... /usr/local/sbin/smbd: error while loading shared libraries: libnettle.so.7: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory /usr/local/sbin/nmbd: error while loading shared libraries: libnettle.so.7: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory 3. I then installed the nettle.tcz extension. This is a dependency for samba4 that was NOT installed. 4. I tried to start Samba again, NO LUCK 5. I check to see exactly what libraries nettle.tcz actually installed: root@musicbox:/tmp/tcloop/samba4/usr/local/etc/init.d# ls -l /usr/local/lib/libnett* lrwxrwxrwx1 root root45 Jul 12 21:35 /usr/local/lib/libnettle.so -> /tmp/tcloop/nettle/usr/local/lib/libnettle.so lrwxrwxrwx1 root root47 Jul 12 21:35 /usr/local/lib/libnettle.so.8 -> /tmp/tcloop/nettle/usr/local/lib/libnettle.so.8 lrwxrwxrwx1 root root49 Jul 12 21:35 /usr/local/lib/libnettle.so.8.1 -> /tmp/tcloop/nettle/usr/local/lib/libnettle.so.8.1 6. As you can plainly see it installed the incorrect version of the libraries for both smbd & nmbd 7. Samba4 needs to be rebuilt against the CORRECT version of the libraries. Hoping the PiCore developers see this email and SAMBA4 gets fixed. It might be best to start this topic in its own thread. The pcm in pcm1794a is a clue. There is often a dsd twin. Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Start/restart squeezelite when plug-in USB dac
hi carsten_h, I can't give you a definite answer but... here's a guess. I believe in pCP7 there was a problem getting the card name (from USB DAC) which caused errors restoring asound.state. The USB restart scripts worked around this. Maybe because we fixed a few ALSA things in pCP8.0.0 it broke something. Or, it could be these scripts don't play nice with the instu upgrade process. regards Greg Greg Erskine's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=7403 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=113661 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix
