So you are using the jack outputs from the dac direct into the speakers
and controling the volume via alsamixer ?
As Jivelite is a visualisation software for controlling the squeezebox
playback, my suggestion was to use a different OS running Squeezelite to
see if you experience the same problem.
I have had a quick look at the speaker spec (well reviewed by
Sound-on-Sound) and there seems to be no method to adjust the input
impedance. (I have some Mackie Actives and I can adjust the impedance
value which allows greater or lesser use of the volume control).
Attenuators on the speaker input might help, but only if you happen to
have a pair, as they are a little expensive.
It's a question of working through the audio outputs that are offered
and if non work then trying attenuation.
It might even be that the dac hat might be faulty ?
Have you tried using the rapberry pi headphone output, first into
headphone) and then into the speakers via a line level 3.5mm /rca phone
cable, as another part of the elimination process (and available for
little money) ?
