Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] ANNOUNCE: piCorePlayer 7.0.0
I forgot about the Duke's finger-clicks on that track! I can provide other sample files, if needed. I should have something that's relatively quiet with the clicking obvious. I'll do some testing with my library tonight and select something else suitable. When the clicking is audible there appears to be precisely 10 seconds between each one, which points to some form of framing or buffering error. I'll also attempt to run the 64-bit version of PiCorePlayer on the same device, although I may not be able to get that installed for a day or two. Thanks to yesterday's update I can now play ALAC files again - however there's a problem. This is irrespective of output device - I get the same issue with my IQAudio DAC+ and the built-in audio jack. Pi3B running the 32-bit version, by the way. This could explain the issues I've been having with the 7.00 public beta. The library I was testing with only contains ALAC files, with any attempt to play anything causing SqueezeLite to crash. Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] BETA: piCorePlayer6.0.0 - PI4 support
Fixed after a full re-scan. I've discovered the cause: Although there's only one folder containing the files on the drive, at some point the actual casing of the folder changed due to editing some tags - the folder names I use are generated from the artist and album title tags. As the drive is formatted ExFAT which is case insensitive but case preserving, synching for folder changes caused the new folder name to be detected, whilst the older one was, although not longer there, still a valid name under ExFAT. Ever since adding the files I've only performed a scan for new files and not a full re-scan. Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] BETA: piCorePlayer6.0.0 - PI4 support
I'm certain that there's only one copy of each file, as that's the first thing I looked at. I'll double-check, though, in case the process that copied files to the drive somehow went wrong and dumped extra copies of the files somewhere else - the drive was newly set up earlier this week. However if that were to be a problem I'd expect there to be similar issues with other albums, but so far I've not found any. Had another look at the Pirate Audio device today - made no more progress regarding getting all 4 buttons working with Jivelite, whether using a 'gpio-key' overlay or one of various background processes. Three keys work fine, but the one assigned to GPIO 20 simply doesn't work. The device uses an overlay file designed for a board that was designed specifically for a Pi 1 fitted with the optional P5 header. Perhaps that's the root cause of the problem? Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] BETA: piCorePlayer6.0.0 - PI4 support
I've managed to get Jivelite to display on the Pirate Audio display, but I need to do some more work to clean it up. The fix was to build the 'fbcp' daemon, found here - https://github.com/tasanakorn/rpi-fbcp Once this daemon is running it copies the screen from the Pi's main HDMI display to whatever is connected to /dev/fb1, and I first managed to get it to work on Raspbian by following these instructions - https://facelesstech.wordpress.com/2019/01/27/1-3-screen-with-raspberry-pi/ On PiCoreplayer it exits on being run by default due to the process not being able to access the display. I got it working by commenting out all three of the memory saving settings in boot.txt. Not sure which one is relevant at the moment - I'll do some more tests when I can next work on the device tomorrow, when I'll do some more cleaning up to see if I can make the display look better. For Jivelite you need a framebuffer device for the screen, such as /dev/fb1, which can be done by installing various kernel modules. Unfortunately to install the module you need to pass various parameters, and whatever I try doesn't seem to work. I'll take a look at the kernel module source later today/tomorrow, in case there's something that I've missed. The variants are line-out, headphone amp, 3W amp and built-in mono speaker. I suspect they'll work with PiCoreplayer as the DAC is supposedly HiFiBerry compatible. Not sure about the screen. Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] BETA: piCorePlayer6.0.0 - PI4 support
It's a power issue - I was overloading the Pi PSU by trying to power an external HD via USB. I couldn't get WiFi to work by editing the wpa_supplicant.conf file either - but on disconnecting the USB HD it's again working fine. I'll go back to storing my music on couple of thumb drives for now. Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] BETA: piCorePlayer6.0.0 - PI4 support
Hmm, I'm getting exactly the same error with piCorePlayer 5.00. I didn't used to - perhaps my Pi 3B has failed. Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] BETA: piCorePlayer6.0.0 - PI4 support
Tried doing a backup after a WiFi change, and rebooting. I get exactly the same problem, WiFi not working. On the WiFi configuration pane under "WiFi information" to the right of the MAC address is displayed "Wifi IP: is missing - [Reboot] or [Save] to connect." Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] BETA: piCorePlayer6.0.0 - PI4 support
Having problems with Beta 6 with WiFi using a Pi 3B. I've the device connected via Ethernet, and then attempt to set WiFi via the user interface. It connects fine, until I come to reboot, when it fails to connect. Unfortunately I wasn't able to connect a screen to the HDMI port to see if there was anything pertinent on screen. I should be able to do so in a day or two, if needed. It seems to be an issue with these drives - they overheat and shut down. It's not a PiCorePlayer issue as I have the same symptoms under Windows, and the older of the two drives is getting worse. This seems to be a common problem with this particular SanDisk UltraFit model of drive, which appears to have been taken off the market last year. I've a spare HD cannibalised from a broken laptop which I can use instead. Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] ANNOUNCE: piCorePlayer 4.0.0
Had an odd USB drive issue the other day. My piCorePlayer installation currently uses two SanDisk 128GB memory sticks as storage, plugged into the upper 2 USB sockets of a Pi 3 B. To update them I power the player down and update the files from a PC. When I came to do this this week after adding or changing a few albums, the particular drive couldn't be seen by piCorePlayer at boot up, it was as if the drive wasn't plugged in at all. Eventually, after almost 5 minutes, the drive showed up under dmesg, and it could finally be mounted. I presume this is a hardware issue with the drive itself. Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Announce: piCorePlayer 3.5.0
I suspected it was something wrong with the files - I've already managed to fix one errant album by embedding different artwork. I'll work through fixing the rest. Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Announce: piCorePlayer 3.5.0
I believe I had similar problems with 3.22 too, at least with one album. That was a free download album in 44.1/24 format, and I blamed it on it being 24-bit at the time. As the album wasn't really to my taste, and somewhat badly recorded with over-the-top compression, I've since deleted those files. Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Announce: piCorePlayer 3.5.0
Having playback issues with some albums. They're all ALAC files with embedded artwork, and they appear to be albums using particularly high-resolution images (roughly 1000x1000 pixels). They either don't play at all, or play for just a few seconds before going silent. If I uninstall the FFMpeg libraries and reboot the player, the files play fine, but of course LMS is having to transcode them prior to streaming. Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Announce: piCorePlayer 3.5.0
I had a brief play earlier today, installing from scratch as my Pi has been temporary repositioned for another use. I had one problem - I couldnt get an exFAT formatted USB drive to show files when mounted. In addition my NTFS drive was showing double capacity in the web interface when mounted. Ill play with it further when I acquire a second Pi - hopefully the parcel will turn up on Monday. Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] picoreplayer without network
I've a simple fix to this issue - I've created a hotspot on my phone that uses the same SID and passphrase as the usual wireless router, allowing piCorePlayer to startup normally when used remotely. I just need to remember to make sure I have my phone on me, and it's charged!
