Hi Paul & piCorePlayer Team,
Thanks for this big update and continuous support!

I am just intrigued by the implementation of the support for the Google
AIY voice kit. When you get a chance would you please be so kind as to
explain how it works with piCorePlayer?
Thanks a lot!

All sorted I have managed to shrink my image. The method I have
mentioned above works very well. Problem was with another defective
(more likely not genuine) sd card that got corrupted!
Anyways happy days here, SoA is rocking out again:cool:

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Squeeze on Arch on Wandboard: boot problems following update: Solved

2018-01-07 Thread albertone74

Hi guys,
That's me again.
I would really appreciate if someone could help me out.
My 16GB SD Card with SoA on it got corrupted. Unfortunately all the 16
GB SD Cards I have got are slightly smaller than my back-ups and as such
I cannot dd any of them! I know for sure that the back-ups are working
as I have copied one of the images on a 32GB SD Card and it worked. In
the past I did the terrible mistake of copying the 8GB image on a 16GB
SD Card. Damn it! Do you guys know how to truncate/shrink the image? I
have followed the procedures I have found in the link below, however
when I check the size of the truncated image with the command:

Code:

sudo fdisk -l

the size looks the same.

https://evilshit.wordpress.com/2014/02/07/how-to-trim-disk-images-to-partition-size/

Many thanks!

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Squeeze on Arch on Wandboard: boot problems following update: Solved

2017-07-01 Thread albertone74

Hi guys,
I just wanted to share something with you. After a very long time today
I have attempted to update the arch packages on my Wandboard quad. I
wasn't able to perform the update due to a compatibility issue with the
file /etc/ssl/certs/ca-certificates.crt.
I have found the solution here:
https://www.archlinux.org/news/ca-certificates-utils-20170307-1-upgrade-requires-manual-intervention/
where it is recommended to run the following:

Code:

pacman -Syuw
  rm /etc/ssl/certs/ca-certificates.crt
  pacman -Su

That did the trick. Indeed I was then able to perform the updates as
expected.

On more warning. Be aware that the file:

Code:

/etc/ssh/sshd_config

has been superseded by:

Code:

/etc/ssh/sshd_config.pacnew

This means that before rebooting don't forget to add the usual line:

Code:

PermitRootLogin yes

in the file above otherwise you will not be able to SSH to it.

That's me done:cool:

Yep it looks neat indeed. There are a few options. The cheapest one is
the self assembly kit with no cam for £70.

Hi cpd73,

This is exactly what I did. The only thing I have noticed though is that

All sorted now!
After a fresh install of 3.11 all is working fine. I can confirm that
adding the command at the end of the file worked as in the past:

Code:

#!/bin/sh
  # put other system startup commands here

  GREEN="$(echo -e '\033[1;32m')"

  echo
  echo "${GREEN}Running bootlocal.sh..."
  #pCPstart--
  /home/tc/www/cgi-bin/do_rebootstuff.sh 2>&1 | tee -a /var/log/pcp_boot.log
  #pCPstop--
  sudo /home/tc/tools/IQ_rot&

Go and figure!:p

Paul,

I have tried again with a fresh install of the piCorePlayer and now I
can't install git from the piCorePlayer main page, see below:

Code:

Downloading: ipv6-4.4.39-pcpCore+.tcz
  Error on ipv6-4.4.39-pcpCore+.tcz

It's odd as ipv6-4.4.39-pcpCore+ seems to be installed correctly indeed
if i try load it I get:

Code:

ipv6-4.4.39-piCore+ is already installed!

However if i try manually I get:

Code:

tce-load -wi ipv6-4.4.39-pcpCore+.tcz
  Downloading: ipv6-4.4.39-pcpCore+.tcz
  Connecting to repo.tinycorelinux.net (89.22.99.37:80)
wget: server returned error: HTTP/1.1 404 Not Found
md5sum: ipv6-4.4.39-pcpCore+.tcz.md5.txt: No such file or directory
  Error on ipv6-4.4.39-pcpCore+.tcz

And installing manually git I get:

Code:

tce-load -wi git.tcz
  git.tcz.dep OK
  curl.tcz.dep OK
  gnutls.tcz.dep OK
  nettle.tcz.dep OK
  p11-kit.tcz.dep OK
  libssh2.tcz.dep OK
  libgcrypt.tcz.dep OK
  Downloading: ipv6-4.4.39-pcpCore+.tcz
  Connecting to repo.tinycorelinux.net (89.22.99.37:80)
wget: server returned error: HTTP/1.1 404 Not Found
md5sum: ipv6-4.4.39-pcpCore+.tcz.md5.txt: No such file or directory
  Error on ipv6-4.4.39-pcpCore+.tcz

Not my lucky day:p

Hi Paul,

Thanks for coming back to my query.

Yes I always backed up all the changes after eating the file.

Please see below the content of the file /opt/bootlocal.sh

Code:

  #!/bin/sh
  # put other system startup commands here
  GREEN="$(echo -e '\033[1;32m')"
  echo
  echo "${GREEN}Running bootlocal.sh..."
  #pCPstart--

/var/log/pcp_boot.log
  #pCPstop--
  sudo /home/tc/tools/IQ_rot&

I have also tried with inserting the command before the line
#pCPstop--

Code:

  #!/bin/sh
  # put other system startup commands here
  GREEN="$(echo -e '\033[1;32m')"
  echo
  echo "${GREEN}Running bootlocal.sh..."
  #pCPstart--
  sudo /home/tc/www/cgi-bin/do_rebootstuff.sh 2>&1 | tee -a
/var/log/pcp_boot.log
  sudo /home/tc/tools/IQ_rot&
  #pCPstop--

but to no avail.

Any other thoughts please?

[SlimDevices: Unix] piCorePlayer 3.11 and IQAudio econder

2017-03-11 Thread albertone74

I hope someone can shade some light as I can't get my head around this
issue. I have been following the same steps for the last few months but
know for some strange reasons I am struggling with it.

I have installed the iqaudio tools to use a rotary encoder to control
the volume.

https://github.com/iqaudio/tools

To run it at start up:

Code:

sudo nano /opt/bootlocal.sh
  sudo /home/tc/tools/IQ_rot&

Then backup and reboot.

However after rebooting the tool doesn't start.
It works fine by running

Code:

sudo /home/tc/tools/IQ_rot&

Thanks a lot!

Hi Paul,
Thanks for sharing it.
Today I have got my RPi Zero W and as already advised to d6jg I have
replaced only the files listed in your post. After inserting the card
the piCorePalyer doesn't boot up at all.
Please find attached a screenshot of what I have got with the RPi zero

Guys,

Has anybody tried the "newconfig method" for the piCorePlayer 3.11

However I have been wondering if this is still the case for the 3.11 as
I have been failing so far;)

Thanks!

Yes, I have got triple backup on three different hard drives just in

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Announce: piCorePlayer 2.00

2016-05-22 Thread albertone74

Hi Greg/Ralphy/Paul/Steen,

Yesterday I have upgraded to version 2.05 and everything worked like a
charm. All the services like JiveLite, LMS, Squeezelite, etc are running
fine. Many thanks for another super update!

Actually the only service I have been struggling with is Shairport-sync.
Basically I can see the piCore player on my iPhone screen, however when
I select it the service doesn't even start. Indeed when I go back to the
piCorePlayer page it says that the service is not running. I have
replicated this issue several times. Of course I have tried to
re-install the piCorePlayer itself and both Squeezelite and Shairport
but to no avail.
It is very odd as after installing Shairport when I check the
piCorePlayer page it says it is running but as soon as I select the
player from my iPhone and I check back the piCoPlayer page it says it is
not running anymore. It looks like it gets broken as soon the
service starts.

Just out of interest I have re-installed a previous backup with
piCorePlayer 2.03 and Shairport run fine.

When you get a chance could you please let me know what I can check?

Once again thanks for this great piece of software:cool:

Hi kesey,

Many thanks for sharing your findings.

I have tried the suggested method but to no avail. I have literally
entered the following commands:

pacman -Syy
pacman -Su
pacman -Sy uboot-wandboard

but after rebooting I was not able to SSH to my WQuad anymore.

When you get a chance could you please let me have your thoughts?

Yep, editing the file /mnt/mmcblk0p1/config.txt did the trick indeed.
Now the IQAudio card is set as 0 as I wanted and the rotary encoder is

The funny think though is that Squeezelite is no longer running since I

Hi Clive,

Thanks for that. I will try it as soon as I get home as well. I have
been struggling to get the rotary encoder up and running, that's why I
am try trying to change the sound cards order. I would better off
opening a new thread though.:o

Hi Steen,

That's a fantastic news! I can't wait to get home to try it!!

If/when you get a chance, can you please let me know how to change the
sound cards order in alsamixer? I would like to have the IQAudio DAC to
be card 0 and not card 1.

Thanks a lot guys for your continuous and great work!

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Announce: piCorePlayer 2.00

2016-03-19 Thread albertone74

Hi Greg/Steen,

I really hope you can help me out.

I have got the IQAudio Pi-Dac Zero and Pi-DAC ZeroHP and I am trying to
compile the utilities to get the rotary encoder up and running. Problem
being that I am not able to install the GCC package at all. From the
Extension tab I get the following error message:

Code:

Downloading: gcc.tcz
  gcc.tcz: FAILED
  Error on gcc.tcz

I have also tried to install gcc manually but to no avail:

Code:

tc@piCorePlayer:~$ tce-load -wi compiletc
  Downloading: compiletc.tcz
  Connecting to distro.ibiblio.org (152.19.134.43:80)
wget: server returned error: HTTP/1.1 404 Not Found
md5sum: compiletc.tcz.md5.txt: No such file or directory
  Error on compiletc.tcz

When you get a chance, would you please be so kind as to advise on that?
I do understand it is not an issue related to piCorePlayer at all, but
any help would be very much appreciated:cool:

Thanks a lot!

Hi Greg,

I did want to check that info for you but it seems that the RPi0 doesn't
get an IP address assigned. This happens with both wifi and ethernet
connections. I have tried to dd the piCorePlayer image several times but
to no avail. I connected the RPi0 to my TV via the HDMI cable and I can
see that it boots up but there is no way that an IP address gets
assigned to the RPi0. I have also tried to reboot the router.
Any suggestions, please?

Hi Steen,

Very well done to you, Greg and Ralphy. Excellent job indeed!

I would like to report something. A few hours ago I managed to upgrade
from 1.21b to 1.21g and everything worked like a charm. Touch working
great!

Then I decided to start everything from scratch with a fresh install and
after downloading the latest image for 1.21g the system does not boot up
at all. I also tried with different SD cards but to no avail. Then I
tried with a 1.21b image but every time I try to update in situ from
1.21b to 1.21g the update process fails. Again I tried several times
this procedure but no luck at all.

Many thanks.

2015-07-04 Thread albertone74

Hi guys,

Can someone please advise on the best way to create a backup of the SD
card where SoA is installed?

Would be this the correct way?

Code:

dd if=/dev/sdX of=/path/to/backup bs=512 conv=noerror,sync

Thanks a lot!

Hi Triode,
I have installed the new image by downloading it as per post #1. The
installation lasted in total 12 min circa on my quad qandboard. WOW!
That's great many thanks for that and congratulations for this big
improvements.

Also I have installed LMS 7.9. The installation was incredibly fast..I
believe less than 30min. That's fantastic. It was used to take ages
before;)

I tried to reboot the quad several times and overtime it worked like a
charm!

Just to report that after clicking on the update button I get the
following:

The following command:

Code:

alsactl store 3

did the trick indeed Triode and I have now managed to save the volume
settings of my DAC (card 3 in my case). Having said that though, I can
confirm that alsamixer volume doesn't actually impact my DAC as even
when I lower the volume down to 0% in alsamixer, nothing happens as I
can still listen to my music.

Hi Triode,
I have did some tests with alsamixer (on wandborad dual/quad) with both
my DACs . What I have found out is that even in my case the default pcm
volume from alsamixer is much less than 100% with alsamixer installed,
indeed it is set to 46%. The interesting thing is that even when I try
to set the volume to 100% nothing happens to the volume. Alsactl store
doesn't seem to work either:

Code:

alsactl: get_control:256: Cannot read control '3,0,0,IEC958 Capture

Hi Bob,
I am afraid it is not possible to do that. In fact when I bought my
first Wandboard Dual I contacted the manufacturer and they confirmed
that the WOL is not supported:(

Just out of interest how did you manage to force your HDD into standby
after a predefined time of inactivity? Did you use hdparm at all?

Cheers.

I think you might be right about the internet connection issues.

Yep a very nice surprise the ability to install the custom kernel from
the web interface. That's great Triode!

Hi kesey,

Thanks. It's definitely a good point but I can't help myself to test and
start everything from scratch every time Triode makes some changes to
his script..that's why a bought another SD card to play with. Actually I
have got so many SD cards that every time I struggle to remember what is
installed on which:)

This way I hope we can help him with this great project.

BTW after a fresh re-install I finally managed to get LMS 7.9 up and
running:cool:

that installation has been completed but from the Status page in SoA it
says is dead (I have tried to enable/restart it). I have already tried
several times. I will try tonight to make a new image and I will report
