Some notes from recent CSOS update from R3 to R5: a. Downloaded CSOS-Wandboard-Dual-R5-20130514-1.img.7z from http://www.communitysqueeze.org/images/wandboard/CSOS/ . b. Re-image onto 8 GB flash card. c. CSOS setup is quick (establish CIFS mount, set timezone, disable wireless, Disable and Stop Squeezelite, Enable and Start Squeeze Server). d. Configure LMS on port 9000 (set mount point for media folder, clear library and rescan everything). CSOS on Wandboard is great! Observations (no complaints): 1. Library scan took longer on CSOS R5 than CSOS R3. 2. Logitech Media Server Log File access from LMS web page shows empty web page (/var/log/squeezeboxserver/server.log) 3. Scanner Log File access from LMS web page shows empty web page (/var/log/squeezeboxserver/scanner.log) 4. CSOS R5 seems slower than R3 (I'm using SB classics) - are others seeing this?) Questions: Q1: Realizing CSOS is still beta, what is the CSOS stable release plan? Q2: How does this combination of Linux and LMS minimize flash file system write access to prolong flash card life? Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Community Squeeze OS R3
R5 wasn't an official image. I was seeking a simple method to disable WiFi with CSOS R3. My how to update query didn't result in suggestions for updating just the web interface, and I saw another note indicating re-install would be prefered to fix other update issues anyway (so I installed R5 :-). I prefer installing full integrated package to match your distribution. Overall, CSOS R5 seems to be working. A centralized method to announce releases / distributions / updates is desirable. It is easy to miss announcements in a long, multi-page thread. LMS log and scanner access via web page shows empty web page in CSOS R5: Have you checked to see if there is anything contained in the files? (ie. via the file system rather than via LMS.) Yes, both server.log and scanner.log are non-zero with readable content when accessed via ssh. These were readable via LMS when running CSOS R3. I'm still sorting through the content of server.log files. It looks like I have a few corrupted media files, and there are a few perl runtime exceptions. How does this combination of Linux and LMS minimize flash file system write access to prolong flash card life? I'm interested to deploy a CSOS / Wandboard configuration for a five year minimum life. Consumer flash devices are great for low frequency write applications, especially appending and not re-writing same disk blocks over and over. It's hard to write 100,000 times to any flash card block used in a camera application. However, it's not difficult to have high write cycle counts if the flash file system is used in an OS as temporary file space like swap (thus the need for a wear-leveling file system or a different media). I agree, it's not the highest priority task. But a consideration for long life.
