Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Can't mount USB disk on Picoreplayer. Help needed please.
Just for closure, I returned a few days ago from holiday to find the replacement Pi from PiHut (who handled the exchange with speed and minimal fuss), booted it up with the previously configured SD card, and all seems well and stable. It has been playing without issue for three or four days now, so I think we're home. Thanks for all the patience and help in getting there. You're all great. themicksa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=40582 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=114949 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

I'm pretty sure I used the correct string in the Output Settings but managed to copy and paste the wrong one in my msg. For the last successful effort I was using -front:CARD=E30,DEV=0- as suggested by @Man in a van. All a bit beside the point now as the Pi appears to be dead. After a good few hours last night of playing, the music just stopped and I've not been able to boot it at all. On restart I was getting a red light followed by three maybe four green flashes. I tried reformatting and re-flashing the card with the PCP OS and now I'm getting eight green flashes followed by nothing--I gather that's serious. I've asked PiHut about exchanging the Pi. All being well I'll be able give it another go then. Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Can't mount USB disk on Picoreplayer. Help needed please.
I wonder why my E30 works perfectly? I only bought it for testing/developing USB DACs on pCP but unfortunately I set it to DAC mode, set pCP up in a couple of minutes, and it has worked ever since. I have only ever used pCP8 betas and pCP8.0.0. I wonder if its the E30 firmware. I would recommend stop using the E30 remote. The "Add a Topping E30 USB DAC" topic was written by me and is what I have done on my system. It's been working perfect for me. The E30 needs to be powered before pCP starts. You can monitor your pi4 > temperature from the pCP interface. Beta Mode/ Extras -> CPU Temp My first attempt was with the Pi's USB port. But suspecting that might be an issue, subsequent efforts have all been with the E30 powered separately. That said, the advice at the Topping setup page (https://docs.picoreplayer.org/projects/add-topping-e30-usb-dac/) suggests otherwise: "Step 4 - Connect Topping E30 USB DAC Connect the 2 USB cables (supplied) from the Raspberry Pi USB2 ports to Topping E30" On temperature, good to know that overheating shouldn't be an issue for now. As of now, if I connect pi without the USB cable output to E30, it will start, with IPs for both LAN and wifi visible on the network, but Squeezelite will not run. Is that because the Output Settings for the E30 are reading hw:CARD=E30,DEV=0. i.e Squeezelite finds no device and can't load? If I start up with everything connected, the music flows for a few minutes then stops and the Pi disappears from the network entirely. Might there still be issues with IP addresses? I've set no static IPs, but maybe that would make a difference? Throughout the process I have left the pi connected via Ethernet directly to the router? Is that correct procedure? Any logs I can consult or forward that might suggest the problem? thx themicksa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=40582 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=114949 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

OK, so I'm back again sorry to say. Not a pCP problem this time, so maybe I should take this elsewhere. As I mentioned previously, I just got a new DAC (a Topping E30) and I set it up as per the instructions here https://docs.picoreplayer.org/projects/add-topping-e30-usb-dac/. It sounds fabulous, and a great upgrade for me, but I've had repeated crashes. To be fair I've been cranking up the volume but after ten minutes or so nothing. So I'm wondering if overheating is the issue as I've read that pis (in this case a 4B) are prone to that. I'm happy to buy a suitable fan or heatsink to resolve the issue but wanted to check that overheating is indeed the issue here--it's been running at a lower volume for quite a while now and hasn't yet crashed again. But there are days when you wanna party, you know! So, to be specific, is it possible to verify the issue, through diagnostics or otherwise? Do pis just crash when they get too hot? And if so, any recommendations for the best solution? My setup is simple: pi > Topping dac > my venerable NAD 3020. After various resets etc. it turned out it was actually bricked, and following a long session with Linksys support the firmware was upgraded and wifi was restored. However when I come to run pCP I find that I'm unable to connect to wifi. The IP addresses of everything in the house got changed in the process but I can see the pCP page at its new home on the network. I've faithfully followed the instructions at https://docs.picoreplayer.org/how-to/setup_wifi/ but it keeps resulting in the message Wifi IP: is missing - [Reboot] or [Save] to connect. The router can see the wifi pi (with a different MAC address from the ethernet one) but I'm stumped as to how to continue. I've checked and rechecked the SSID, pwd etc. but to no avail. I've even consulted the boot and wifi logs but can't really understand what I'm seeing. If it would help to post any of that I'm happy to do so. Can anyone suggest a solution? themicksa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=40582 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=114949 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

Thanks for the generous feedback and suggestions. I'm happy to report that PCP and LMS are up and running, although I've still had no luck in mounting the Zen to the LMS media library. That said I'm able to see and play all the files on the drive via the Remote Libraries plugin--It's just another click away. Unless any of the below info makes the difference, or there are other drawbacks I've not envisaged, I can live with that. And stop bothering you all with dumb questions. Your patience is much appreciated. === paul- wrote: > cifs-utils will handle the SMB versions automatically. If I was starting out again that's probably what I would do but that would leave me with a £700 CD ripper! Ronnie By default VB puts music into /storage/music but its exposed by SMB as music-readonly or files/music IIRC. The latter is editable, the former isnt. (Ill check in the morning) VB 2.4,includes LMS 7.8 but it can be upgraded to 8.3 - not sure why he has not gone this route. Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Can't mount USB disk on Picoreplayer. Help needed please.
Oh dear. Sorry to say but it appears you really dont know what you are doing. Lets go back a bit. The Innuos box is just a PC in a fancy case that runs a version of Linux branded as Vortexbox. This includes a number of instances of Squeezelite and also LMS. It also acts as a low grade NAS. Do you know which version of Vortexbox is installed? It could be 7.3, 7.4 or (unlikely) 7.5 VB2.4 STORAGE *QNAP TS419P (NFS) Living Room* Joggler & Pi4/Khadas -> Onkyo TXNR686 -> Celestion F20s *Office* Joggler & Pi3 -> Denon RCD N8 -> Celestion F10s *Dining Room* SB Boom *Kitchen* UE Radio (upgraded to SB Radio) *Bedroom (Bedside)* Pi Zero+DAC ->ToppingTP21 ->AKG Headphones *Bedroom (TV) & Bathroom* SB Touch ->Denon AVR ->Mordaunt Short M10s + Kef ceiling speakers *Guest Room* Joggler > Topping Amp -> Wharfedale Modus Cubes Everything controlled by iPeng & Material on iOS d6jg's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=44051 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=114949 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

d6jg wrote: > Can we clarify. Is the NAS a Vortexbox appliance? d6jg wrote: > Can we clarify. Is the NAS a Vortexbox appliance? Sorry but I don't know the technicalities of the difference between a NAS and an external hard drive, nor what a "Vortexbox appliance" might be. I was under the impression that a NAS could run software and be seen on the network as as a separate device, without being connected to a pc, but I may well have that all wrong. I've been rummaging through user manuals at home and online and there's not much relevant detail*. It came preconfigured with Vortexbox as the OS and LMS running on that. On the mac I can reach Vortexbox via browser at the Zen's IP address, and its version of LMS at the same address on port :9000. In the Mac finder, smb:// mounts as Volumes/files/ with various subfolders for /music/flac, /music/mp3 etc. Innuos stopped using Vortexbox a few years back in favour its own operating system. I'm sure it's great, but I rather resented the fact I would have to ship the box back to them for an OS upgrade at a cost of £75 each time. Meanwhile I've still not been able to mount via CIFS. Interestingly perhaps I just noted that the main page of Vortexbox lists its "Filesystem" as /storage. Might that be a clue? In other news, I tried turning off all other LMS players except "piCorePlayer", reserved its IP at that address, restarted everything, including the router, but we're still pretty much where we were. I can connect to the Zen via Remote Libraries, see all my music listed and the LMS appears to be playing them and streaming from various sources. Should I be able to hear that through the Pi's mini jack output? Cos right now I can't. PS what's the deal with the slimdevices site? One minute it's there, the next it's gone. Paul, you nail it when you talk about being confused between players and servers on LMS. I've been using LMS for 12 years or so, but it still bends my mind sometimes. I'm going to spend time today trying, as you suggest, turning off everything (including wifi) except the Pi. From the rest of the conversation (thanks for your advice everyone) I'm going to concentrate on mounting via CIFS/SMB, though I'm not sure I understand your later advice on that Paul. I'll be back! DESIRED HARDWARE STATE: The NAS box sits with the main hifi system and is connected via DAC and RCA jacks. At the top of the house I have a Squeezebox Touch that I use only to play out to powered speakers. Right now the functioning LMS server is running on my MacMini desktop, which is not ideal. But I do still listen music on the mac (with powered desktop speakers), via the Local Player plugin and would like to continue doing that. In all, I had envisioned the Pi as the single LMS server for the above players(?), using the NAS drive (or whatever it is, technically speaking) as the library. Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Can't mount USB disk on Picoreplayer. Help needed please.
Lots of distractions so lets start with some basics. Players do not "See" music. It is the LMS server that "Sees" the music library, and then sends it to a player. You could very easily have the piCorePlayer player device connecting to your Mac LMS server. If you are getting confused with multiple LMS servers shut them all down except one. Also forget about players at this point. Players not playing music is a completely different set of things to work on, and they are not really related. Thanks for the reply Paul. The more> links have proved very useful in the setup process, but in the case of the network mount I'm not sure I understand what it's trying to tell me. After a bit more fiddling about I can now see piCorePlayer listed among the available players in the LMS web interface. But I also see listed a second player named Zen, that has the same IP address. (Would that name have been picked up from the mount point I set: /mnt/Zen ?) Any idea what that means? Both players are able to see the contents of the NAS by using Remote Libraries (there's a very old instance of LMS running there, that I can't update, but is obviously still able to manage my FLAC library) With the Zen player selected, when I try to play something, nothing happens. With the piCorePlayer selected, the tracks do appear to play but I'm unable to get anything through the Pi's USB output to the amplifier (via a USB Dragonfly DAC). Presumably if things were working properly I should be able to see (and scan) the NAS files directly in the My Music screen? On the subject of IP addresses, I'm also confused that there appear to be two points of connection, in my case 192.168.1.133 and 192.168.1.135. Is that normal behaviour? One for wifi one for ethernet? On the samba question, yes I misunderstood its purpose. I presumed it was to enable Pi to cope with SMB addresses. That's one blind alley I can cross of the list. Questions, questions. I'm sorry to appear so clueless. [SlimDevices: Unix] Can't mount USB disk on Picoreplayer. Help needed please.
Hi I'm a longtime user of LMS but I am in the process of installing PCP on a Raspberry Pi4 in order to use it as a standalone, always on, LMS server attached by USB to 3TB of music on my NAS. Presently I run LMS on my main computer (M1 MacMini) which is not convenient. I'm not really familiar with either Linux or Pi operating systems, but thanks to the excellent PCP installation guides I have successfully installed PCP and LMS is running. However I'm hitting a wall when trying to mount the NAS drive and point PCP to its music folders. I'd be grateful for any help or pointers from Forum members--I have searched similar issues and tried a few fixes to no avail. The NAS is an old Innuos Zen MKII, which used to run LMS installed on VortexBox--(the ideal solution I'm sure, but there's another long story as to why that's not for me.) On my mac I can see and mount the music folders at the IP location as Volumes/files/music/flac, but on PCP it does not automatically show as a detected USB disk, and I've clearly no idea how to address it properly. Right now I can see and ping both the Zen and the Pi, but I'm not able to mount it on either the Pi or my mac. So I now have the Pi set up with a monitor and keyboard and the Console screen shows a successful startup but with mounting errors to the effect that "you might need a /sbin/mount. helper program)." That of course might be a red herring, if the address is just plain wrong. The attached screenshot shows my latest attempt to address the USB mounted NAS. I have tried both with CIFS and NFS and although I have enabled Samba (i.e. PCP says it is running) I'm still not able to mount it via SMB on either mac or Pi. I have seen a number of solutions that suggest this is a files system issue but none of the suggested fixes have worked for me. I'd be really grateful for any pointers on how to get up and running or at least to steer me in the direction of where the problems might lie. Thank you for reading. +---+ |Filename: Screenshot 2021-08-07 at 13.08.21.png| |Download: http://forums.slimdevices.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=35430| +---+ themicksa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=40582 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=114949 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix
