[SlimDevices: Unix] piCorePlayer and USB Audio
I would like to activate the USB Audio interface to connect an external DAC. As I do have only little Linux know-how and no experience with ALSA, I am wondering what are the thyical steps to get an external DAC configured. I do not find any ressources in the internet what are of help for me. Would be great if somebody could help or direct me to a useful page in the internet. Im plugging directly into my DAC/Preamp, which has an Amanero USB input. Sound is fine from both PCM and DSD, but the first tenths of seconds of the songs is missing. Like the first bar is missing. How do I adress that? Yes sir i did. Unfortunately, today i install another OS, same thing happen. Frustrated, i hook it into 2 of my laptop running windows 10, the D50 cant be recognised too. Even acter install it driver from topping site, there errror prompt abt driver. My conclusion now, there is something wrong abt the USB input of this DAC. The firmware might already funkisized. Sigh. Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] piCorePlayer and USB Audio
Hi everybody, just joined the forum and looking forward to a lively discussion! I have bought a Raspberry Pi 4B and have successfully setup piCorePlayer 6.1.0 and LMS 7.9.3. I can access LMS both on the desktop and on my iPhone via the Material Skin. Analogue audio output works on the headphone out. So far so good. Of course I want to connect the pi to a DAC. I have an older Pro-Ject Audio USB DAC BOX at hand and have received the SMSL Sanskrit 10th MKII today. After hours of trying out all of the methods outlined in this thread I am about to give up and order the HifiBerry DAC2 HD which, as a proper HAT, should work pretty much out of the box. Here's what I have tried so far: In pCP Squeezelite Settings: - set Audio output to device settings to "USB audio" - tried about every setting in the "Output setting field" In Tweaks: - changed OTG-Speed to "dwc_otg.speed=1" (and back as it didn't seem to have any impact) - disabled USB-FSM (and back as it didn't seem to have any impact) When ssh'ed into pCP I did use "tc@piCoreLMS:~$ dmesg|grep USB" to list connected USB devices but to no avail. Interestingly the DAC was discovered when disconnecting and reconnecting the usb cable (hot-plugging without reboot). So Any thoughts on what I may be doing wrong or missing in setup are greatly appreciated! Help me Pi Kenobiyou are my only hope! Best from Berlin, Germany! Paul p.s. Below you will find a screenshot of the terminal window when the DAC was finally discovered. 31942 +---+ |Filename: Bildschirmfoto 2020-10-24 um 16.51.46.jpg| |Download: http://forums.slimdevices.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=31942| +---+ pauluslupus's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=70816 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=109217 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] piCorePlayer and USB Audio
The classic first response to new RPi with USB problems is "is the power supply strong enough?" If the only source of power to the USB device is the RPi USB port that is also carrying the data then there might not be enough power coming through. Appearing when hot-plugging /might/ support that theory as perhaps on initial boot the RPi is drawing more power but after stabilising there might be more available to pass to the USB device. Regarding your questions/ comments: I could not connect either, and, no, I don't have both connected at the same time. The *Pro-Ject Audio DAC BOX USB* when connected to my Mac appears as "Burr Brown PCM 2702". The data sheet lists it as a "Texas Instruments TLV320DAC23". Paul, Thx for your response. It feels a bit embarrasing but after re-reading all posts in this thread I figured the usb-connection was the one variable I hadn't looked into and voilà the Sanskrit was recognized. Output settings are now "hw:CARD=AUDIO,DEV=0". Btw: Hot-Plugging is no problem with the Sanskrit, nor is power feeding the DAC by the RPi. There is no issue whatsoever. When playing ByteFM through TuneIn the Material Skin reports the same 192kbit transfer rate plus display of cover art which for some reason is not retrieved when using the hq links provided by ByteFM. I have contacted them to find if there is a way to access the archive on LMS (still awaiting a reply). In any case th ewhole setup with LMS on pCP on a RPi is really liberating after years of being locked in the Apple ecosystem. Absolutely! I spent a lot of time at home during COVID, but one of the things I achieved is zero Airplay and zero Itunes. Sorry, newby question: I currently have a bunch of radio stations added to Favorites (which I can then start using the number buttons on the remote). It shows me the track info and the station logo (hardcoded in the OPML). But is there any way to replicate that through TuneIn? I use jivelite and HDMI output is connected to my TV set. My USB device is an Amanero board. I noticed that when the text scrolls on the screen, some clicks and pops are generated through USB audio. No problems when the text is fixed (no side scroll). I have tried all the USB audio tweaks proposed on the settings page, but no one seems to work. Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] piCorePlayer and USB Audio
I first enabled the turbo mode, which eliminated most of clicks and pops. The issue was completely solved by replacing the power supply with a more powerful one. Now I really enjoy navigating by using a wireless mini-keyboard and watching at the TV thanks to jivelite. I much prefer this way of operating over apps on a phone or tablet. papaiannis's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=55671 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=109217 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] piCorePlayer and USB Audio
Tx for the suggestions, Man in a van's suggestion worked but was distorted at higher bit rates. Then I discovered the Squeezelite Output devices section on the Diags page with the detailed descriptions of each output and tried the simplest setting i.e. 'sysdefault:CARD=USB- E-MU 0404 - Default Audio Device' Bingo, that worked on all bit rates! :-) And without having to remove the Justboom DAC HAT. I think a possible reason why my earlier attempts failed was because I was using the UI on my phone and copy/pasting in the output entries from help, (I had no idea they could be selected as there was no mouse pointer indicating clickable lines and I'd not noticed 'click to use') so a stray space may have crept in. It'd be great if the Diag page's descriptive outputs could be worked into the Squeezelite config page and then made selectable via a radio button. Sure, but I'd never seen that method of selecting a field's value before and it just looked like plain text. It'd be clearer if it said "Select one of the below entries". A combination of old eyes and a small screen didn't help either! ;-) But it would have helped a lot though if the descriptive output device list was available on the config screen.
