Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] pieCorePlayer hardware question

i have tried various voltage regulators from switch mode to venerable
lm7805 to new generation low drop outs (LDO). There is a jump in sound
quality when going from switch mode to linear. but then you have to deal
with heat esp with rpi 3b+. with your pi zero which i also love above
all pi's i would try one of the newer LDO's if you are drawing less
then 0.5 A. http://www.ldovr.com/category-s/118.htm

if you have more budget and enthusiasm and prefer discrete components
over IC's these are super regulators:
https://sjostromaudio.net/cart/en/super-regulators/17-419-ssr01-sjostrom-super-regulator-built.html#/21-output_voltage-5_v/27-voltage_reference-lm431

pi's and audio hats respond very well to the quality of the incoming
power

Thanks Greg. If I had all the bits and pieces, that's exactly what I'd
do. Alas, I need to order them and don't have a scope at home to check
the ripple. I figured I'd ask to see if anyone else has done something
similar before going further.

hi rdb,

Give it a go. I have a similar buck convertor I have been meaning to
try. Its in my box of things to try!
:D

Maybe adding an additional cap on the RPi0 power input will help?

regards
Greg

[SlimDevices: Unix] pieCorePlayer hardware question

2019-01-25 Thread rdb

I'm looking at building a pCP in an existing housing using a raspberry
pi zero w and a DAQ. I have 24V, 18V, or 12V DC (clean) available from
the existing power supply and was wondering what my best option is for
stepping this down for the raspberry pi? Would a Pololu 5V, 2.5A
Step-Down Voltage Regulator D24V22F5 work or is the RPi input going to
be too noisy for audio?
