HTML5 Campaign
Maybe I misunderstanding the HTML5 Campaign...? The way I interpret the campaign is if the $395,000 goal is not met then the HTML5 will still be delivered and the supporters will receive their pledge. Those who did not pledge can purchase the HTML5 license from the store once it becomes available...but the other options being offered as pledge rewards won't exist. If I am wrong can someone please correct me. So the goal needs to be reached for the fund matching to occur? Normally most matching schemes simply will match funds up to a specific amount. Since this is a crowdsourcing project where are the details of the matching posted? It is ambiguous in the phrasing which is my confusion... If we don't make the minimum target of $395,000 by campaign end date, we reserve the right to cancel this project and refund all pledges. By collecting the pledges before reaching the goal seems against the traditional crowdsourcing projects. It is easier to collect the money pledged if successful else nothing needs to be done. By collecting the pledges before the goal is met is counter intuitive given they would need to do all the refunds. This is why I assumed that the project is going to happen regardless of reaching the goal but if the matching is as you described then statement makes even less sense. ___ use-livecode mailing list use-livecode@lists.runrev.com Please visit this url to subscribe, unsubscribe and manage your subscription preferences: http://lists.runrev.com/mailman/listinfo/use-livecode

Anyway, the un-named government entity is no doubt a committee, so the threshold for funding is understandable. The match funders don't know if the proposal is feasible or reasonable so the only proof they can accept is a threshold of cash that indicates adequate support from the future customers of the goal product. *--* *Stephen Barncard - San Francisco Ca. I understand the call to pledge but you can also consider the fact we have 1200 LinkedIn members connected in the LiveCode membergroup. If the need to get HTML5 is so high, I cant explain why lets say an investnent of $200 or more is too much. It will be an Open Source project too, right? So it doesnt have to be a stopper for years if this campain will fail. If the project has the interest of open source co-developers, they will step into this journey. That was one of the main reasons RunRev made LiveCode Open Source to move forward. It would be interesting to know how many contributed developers are currently involved in the ongoing process of LiveCode. My fear is that the ones who have already pledged before are cautious to invest again because the Next Generation has just started to get attention and will be a must to get LiveCode widely accepted as an Android killer platform which is leading platform nowadays. At the moment. LiveCode is moving forward into the top 10 of the leading mobile cross-platform tools. the funding of 395k bucks will be peanuts. I dont want to offend anybody but thats what I think. First put all effort in a fast engine with little overhead using unicode and offer native control implementation on iOS and Android using widgets/themes. Watching progress on the LiveCode engine using SourceTree
I put together a tutorial on how to setup the SourceTree (free) to monitor the work that is being done on the LiveCode engine. Since all of the LiveCode source is stored on Github you can see when members of the dev team submit updates. I thought this might be of interest to those who want to see all of the work being done behind the scenes. RELEASE LiveCode 7.0 DP7
Dear List Members. We are pleased to announce the release of LiveCode 7.0 DP6. * Warning, this is a pre-release with new features which have the potential to cause issues. Please ensure you backup your stacks before testing this release.* *Important Changes* - We’ve update the platform component of the engine on Linux substantially. Think of it as the equivalent of the cocoa port for MacOS X. As a result, windowing related activities on Linux are subject to change. If you are testing on Linux we would encourage you to focus on windowing, window shapes, shortcuts, copy/paste and drag/drop. - LiveCode 7.0 is now based on LiveCode 6.7. It includes cocoa, the webkit browser, the new AVFoundation player on Mac. - The file format has changed for this release to accommodate Unicode. Old stacks will still work in 7.0, but stacks saved in 7.0 format will not open in previous versions of LiveCode. Therefore it is doubly critical to backup your stacks. *Release Focus* 1) Merging LiveCode 6.7 2) Porting to GDK on Linux 3) Bug fixes 180+ *Known issues* There are 7 outstanding reports against LiveCode 7.0 the most notable of which is on Android. The first frame of your app will not draw though the app is fully functional. If you force a refresh by tapping on where your UI is you're app will render as normal. We have identified and fixed the issue but it was too late to squeeze it into this build. *Release contents* The number of bugs fixed is so large that it no longer makes sense to include a summary in the release email. Instead, please look at the bug fix section of the release notes which can be found here: http://downloads.livecode.com/livecode/7_0_0/LiveCodeNotes-7_0_0_dp_7.pdf *Getting this release* LiveCode 7.0 is not yet part of the auto-update process yet. We'll add it once 7.0 once we enter the RC cycle. For the time being we're looking to our more experienced community members to help with initial testing by downloading directly at: http://downloads.livecode.com/livecode/ *Feeding Back* If you find an issue in this release, please report a bug at quality.runrev.com. Thank you once again for all your support in the 6 weeks our last release of LiveCode 7. With your support we’ve been able to progress a great deal. Re: HTML5 Campaign
Pledge or not as you (or any individual) like. You had asked about the nature of the campaign - whether it would go forward to not regardless of whether the goal was met - and I was responding to that to try to clarify (at least as I understand it). Adding HTML5 to Livecode via a pure Open Source effort is unlikely to happen very quickly (if ever). Open source efforts are generally notoriously slow compared to commercial development efforts. I want HTML5 as a deployment option for my LiveCode projects, in addition to all current platforms. I'd like it sooner rather than very much later (or never), so I pledged to the project the cost of 2 Pro licenses (as we have 2 Commercial Pro licenses for the current offerings from RunRev). I also pledge a comparable amount to the original Kickstarter campaign. I feel I have received and continue to receive my money's worth from that original campaign and I expect I will also receive my money's worth from the HTML5 campaign. I also agree that some disparity still exists between iOS and Android in LiveCode, but I have seen the disparity shrink as a result of the original Kickstarter campaign and Runrev's efforts to ensure parity where possible. While Android appears on the rise compared to iOS, the multitude of stats at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Usage_share_of_operating_systems suggest that Android and iOS as still essentially comparable with regard to installed bases. I expect that as Android continues to gain market share, RunRev being no fool, will continue to close the parity gap between Android and iOS in LiveCode.
