I finally got a situation where I could capture the screen before livecode crashed. *Bug 14294* http://quality.runrev.com/show_bug.cgi?id=14294 - Repeated screen redraws in IDE As the mouse leaves the editor of the IDE, the upper portion is redrawn several times, causing flickers. -- Dr. Richard E. Re: RELEASE: LiveCode 7.0.1
You might look for hung .setup processes from LC and stop them using the task manager. IF 7.0.0 no longer works, then look in the lc folder C:\Program Files (x86)\RunRev\LiveCode Community 7.0 and see if the only thing left is the .setup program. I had to manually delete this file before I could re-install 7 successfully. As far as 7.0.1, I can install up to rc4, but the stable version of the installer is giving me a not a valid win32.. error. I've informed runrev, with a screenie of the error. I'm on win7 64 bit. Don't know if you're having the same problem or not as far as 7.0.1 goes. Re: How to tell when IDE is done loading
I have tried that but I need to process the resumeStack message which seems to get called as part of the startup process. I guess I have to manually set a global flag and have the timed handler unblock the flag. What is the very first handler that an application can process? Startup? Is there an ordered list of messages that are fired for startup and opening a stack? Opening a card would be useful too. I can't say that I have ever seen this anywhere in the documentation. Is this derivable programmatically? Regards, Mike On 12/23/14 11:09 PM, J. Landman Gay wrote: On 12/23/2014 2:44 PM, Michael Doub wrote: How can you tell when the IDE is done loading? I usually just put in a send myHandler to me in 1 second command in an openStack handler on the first card. Then myHandler does whatever needs doing. One second seems like enough time usually. ___ use-livecode mailing list use-livecode@lists.runrev.com Please visit this url to subscribe, unsubscribe and manage your subscription preferences: http://lists.runrev.com/mailman/listinfo/use-livecode
Re: Wondering about the bug reports in Standalone
Jacqueline: Thanks for the verification. I suspected as much. I have a php emailer on my server and can use that, but it’s been awhile, but that would probably be the best option. I’m on “vacation” now, so the built-in option will suffice until I return to my work space. Best, Bill On Dec 23, 2014, at 6:06 PM, J. I’m wondering what the restrictions are in this. Does it require the local user to have email set up? This app will be used in a lab setting by a variety of students, so email may not be available. I can set up an independent email bug reporting system, but for now, I’d like to use the built-in one. So, I’m wondering what local resources must be available for this to work. I use this in almost every app I build, it's handy and it works well. I usually choose the email option but if your users won't have that then the only other choice is to save the report to a file on disk. If it's a public/lab computer then it might be tricky for them to move that file off the computer and onto a device they can work with so they can send it to you. The email option works by filling out the body of the email with the error report, and addressing the email to the address you've entered in standalone settings. The user only has to click the Send button. If you choose that option, and the computer is set up with an email account, it doesn't matter too much that the from address won't be the student. It will just get sent anyway. But if the computer isn't set up for email then it won't work. If you can't use email or files, I think your only option is to build your own system. -- Jacqueline Landman Gay | jac...@hyperactivesw.com HyperActive Software | http://www.hyperactivesw.com ___ use-livecode mailing list use-livecode@lists.runrev.com Please visit this url to subscribe, unsubscribe and manage your subscription preferences: http://lists.runrev.com/mailman/listinfo/use-livecode ___ use-livecode mailing list use-livecode@lists.runrev.com Please visit this url to subscribe, unsubscribe and manage your subscription preferences: http://lists.runrev.com/mailman/listinfo/use-livecode
Livecode 6.7.0 Graphic Anomaly
Hi all. I finally came up with a reproducible scenario where I am getting gray bars when trying to select a control in 6.7.0. It looks like a display anomaly where the objects have moved when the card was loaded into memory but all the objects on the page have shifted up, probably because of some mistake I made with moving objects within groups, but that is not important now. If I use the Application browser I can select the object, but it will look like it is trying to select where the object was before the move, then it selects the object where it actually is, and leaves a gray spot where the button was. I think this is a bug with the new graphics rendering engine. http://quality.runrev.com/show_bug.cgi?id=14297 If anyone with this display anomaly thinks this is what they are seeing, chip in. I think posts about screen flashing and then crashing to desktop in renditions of version 7 may be one in the same issue. Re: [ANN] Free: Google-style typing filter for LiveCode
Thanks Hugh, very nice. I couldn't resist trying this using an SQLite database instead of the preloaded data. I created a database with one table named Places with one column named Data that holds the preloaded data, then imported the preloaded data into it. The script changes were pretty minimal, just open the database at startup, then instead of the filter command: put revDataFromQuery(,,gDBID,SELECT Data FROM Places WHERE Data LIKE :1 ORDER BY Data,tSearch) tSearch is the variable that holds the search string with % signs either after or before/after depending on the wildcard setting. The query takes an average of around 15 msecs vs the filter command taking perhaps 2msecs but neither time is noticeable to a user. Re: [ANN] Free: Google-style typing filter for LiveCode
Sounds interesting, I think Skip was interested in using a filter with a datagrid. I went a bit further with my test by using an FTS3 table and the snippet function to return the data. The nice thing about that approach is that the parameters to the snippet function include the html to use before and after the matched text so I can skip the loop in the original code that hilites the matched text. Using that method, the time to display the results is about twice as fast as the the original code but as before, the difference is not noticeable to the user Pete lcSQL Software http://www.lcsql.com Home of lcStackBrowser http://www.lcsql.com/lcstackbrowser.html and SQLiteAdmin http://www.lcsql.com/sqliteadmin.html On Wed, Dec 24, 2014 at 2:22 PM, Gerry gerry.or...@gmail.com wrote: I wrote an sql based version of this for an abandoned iPad app - it displays the results in a datagrid from where they can be edited or deleted. Re: visual effect not working to show stack
I use animation engine to slide an opaque group into view. You can slide it from anywhere, to anywhere. Works perfectly, just like a drawer. John B No, I can't point to a version of LiveCode where this ever worked... I was dreaming again (ha!) So... it can't be done, except by these messy methods you describe. I guess we will have to live without it. Too bad, as many modern UX designs call for the cool appearance of content like this. And the architecture would be best served by keeping really disparate content in different substacks. I will put in a feature request... I suppose we could also go for building a group and then hiding and showing that... if all we are presenting to the user is a set of controls or info like a help window or big giant calendar/date picker. Again, this tends to overload the main stack when substacks would be a better way to manage the content. Or: use sheet and be content with the drop from the top default effect. BR Scott Rossi wrote: I don't know that it has ever been possible to use a visual effect when launching a stack. Can you point to a version of LiveCode where this works? The only stack-level effects I've been able to manage are a dissolve-into-view effect by setting the stack's blendLevel from 100 to 0, expand/contract effects by repeatedly changing the stack's rect, or a morph-type effect by repeatedly chafing a stack's windowShape to a sequence of images. There may be ways to fake the effect you're looking but they're a bit messy. One way would be to capture the portion of the desktop where you intend to display your stack in a decoration-less stack. You could reveal a snapshot of your real stack in the capture stack using whatever effect you want, display your real stack above the capture stack, then remove the capture stack from view using blendLevel of 100 and close. Perhaps one of the above would work for you. ___ use-livecode mailing list use-livecode@lists.runrev.com Please visit this url to subscribe, unsubscribe and manage your subscription preferences: http://lists.runrev.com/mailman/listinfo/use-livecode
