Reading that one could wish, the LC 7 property inspector
could become upgraded to a plugin too.

And here in advance a tip for the handful of persons here who
think that *everything* new is better (there are improvements,
but also changes for the worse).

== Just try both, the oldPI and the newPI, with small stacks
and large stacks, then you don't need a listing of what is good
and what should become better with the newPI.

== And just try both, the AB and the new PB, with small stacks
and large stacks, then you don't need a listing of what is good
enough and what should become better with the PB.

Re: Edinburgh Conference Partners?

2015-11-29 Thread Peter Reid
Hi

Will there be any alternate programme for partners? I'm interested in coming
to the conference but I'd like to bring my wife along as well. She's not a
LiveCoder, just married to one of longstanding!

Despite having used LiveCode for over 15 years (dating back to MetaCard days),
I've never attended a conference in person (although I have been a virtual
delegate). As my health isn't what it used to be (Parkinson's), I'd feel
happier with my wife accompanying me. However, it would be nice to know there's
something organised for partners to enjoy during the day whilst we're in the
depths of the LC-coder's boiler-room. Is there any chance of this?!

Gmail API and Oath 2 - How to access using LiveCode ?

2015-11-29 Thread Roland Huettmann
Good day to all )

I am trying to develop a LiveCode application using an SQL database with
the ability to have access to my Gmail account (mail and contacts) and NOT
using the standard IMAP protocol, but using OAuth 2.0. There are other APIs
I would like to access as well.

The idea behind is to UNIFY all messages (email, messages, letters into
contacts and message repository) from all kinds of different sources under
one single umbrella to be able to add notes, tags, sort and filter, extract
time information, etc. And basically I want everything in one place so that
also everything can be related to each-other.

I had a developer developing access for Gmail OAuth 2.0 using Python. It
works half way. It downloads mail messages and creates them as files on my
system in a specified directory. It could be used importing into the
database using LiveCode. But it requires installation of Python and I would
be happier using just LiveCode.

And the problem is still that Google sends a token which must be manually
copied and pasted which is less than user-friendly. And also there is not
full functionality yet. This problem my developer could not solve.

And if all this could be done using LiveCode (script or builder) that would
be fantastic.

( I would not feel fit using LCB - LiveCode Builder language - yet. I would
probably give such task to someone who knows and possibly is a C++
programmer. There is knowledge needed which I currently do not have. If LCS
- LiveCode script - could be used, even better for my own abilities.)

And I was thinking whether or not there is anybody who has used OAuth 2.0
(orOAuth other versions) to get the credential accessing something like
Gmail using LiveCode.

https://developers.google.com/gmail/oauth_overview?hl=en

Is there any experience doing this? Any code fragments? Anyone who has been
accessing using OAuth 2.0?

Also I am interested in IMAP and how to access IMAP through LiveCode.

Re: Edinburgh Conference Partners?

2015-11-29 Thread Roland Huettmann
Hello

My feeling is that THIS conference will be a THE MAJOR EVENT- in the sense
of that in one year I believe LiveCode 8 will be fully functioning and be
as stable as it ever could be, widgets will be flourishing, and it could
become the actual start of the new era for such nice product to reach far
out to the world.

I hope with this event all the sweating on the part of the developers would
then hopefully be finding the success deserved. :-)

---

All I wanted to actually say:

I have the same request as Peter Reid, not coming alone, but being
accompanied, sitting almost in the same boat.

Any idea for friends and spouses who are not coding anything except
possibly their age?)

Greetings, Roland

Re: One Rect For All specificaiton

2015-11-29 Thread Brahmanathaswami

Good. we are on the same page... I think

your 1400px x 900px is certainly easier to remember than

1288p wide x 828

But I did not anticipate dropping to visible area of 788 top to bottom.
that's another 56 pixel inset "save" margin to think about. i.e the safe
zone then is really 1400 X 788

And... if we... tab bar along the bottom (50 px tall, as apple want
icons at 44px minimum)... the art work will have an even narrower
vertical height:

738

I'll run some tests with these numbers and confirm.

On a16:9 device you would see all of the 1400 width, and 788 pixels of the

On a4:3 device you would see all of the 900 height, and 1200 of the width.

So, you would have the important things within the central 1200 of the width,
and the central 788 of the height. You can now be sure that the important
content will appear on all devices between16:9 and4:3. The things that are
outside of that 1200x788 area will spill off the edges of the device screen.

BTW, you don’t have to take care of every device size, LiveCode will scale the
above example size to whatever size the device is. So just pick a card size
that is comfortable to work on.

About splash screens, with the requirement to include iPhone6, 6 Plus, and
maybe even iPad Pro screens, a detailed splash screen could take as much as 20
MB of the app size. What I’ve started to do is use a flat color, that matches
the background color of the title screen. Doing that means that the 9 different
splash screens take a total of under 200k of space. If that’s not interesting
enough try just having a flat screen with your logo in middle, that shouldn’t
be too bad file size wise.

2015-11-29 Thread Brahmanathaswami

hhhmm

make new stack

set size to 1400 X 900 and on my 15" iMac I can't see the whole stack
despite the retina display... and Apple, in it's infinite wisdom, no
longer offers the option to see/change the screen pixel dimensions.

  Resolution:2880 x 1800 Retina

so that rect is not going to be workable. Also that's 19" too big for
artists

or use the stated geometry size in points, but that would be pretty small

746 wide by 400 or so? have to work that out...

2015-11-29 Thread Roger Eller
I just want to thank you for your efforts toward getting Oauth 2 and Gmail
/ Gapp integration for LiveCode.

I for one, need it for the Desktop - NOT limited to a subset of mobile.
Richard Gaskin indicated in another thread that the mothership will likely
do another crowd-funded drive for "advanced networking". By whatever means
we can achieve this, I want it to be supported on ALL SUPPORTED LC
platforms, not yet another iOS only thing. Again, thank you for bringing
up this most needed functionality for discussion / collaboration on this
list.

There is always an alternate program for partners. Jo usually arranges
some amazing things wherever we are, and she's in her home territory
this time around.

But even if there isn't one this time... we'll be in Edinburgh at the
start of Festival Month. There is way too much to do every minute of the
day. The problem is just with narrowing down the choices. The schedule
for the Fringe Festival will be online beforehand.

Re: Death of the Application Browser

2015-11-29 Thread Monte Goulding
It really would be better of people enumerated the problems they have with the
new IDE stacks rather than just say use them and see. We all do things
differently and the problems you see might not be the problems I see.

Re: Gmail API and Oath 2 - How to access using LiveCode ?

2015-11-29 Thread David Bovill
I've some experience of oAuth 1 and 2 in LiveCode - and Andre Garcia has
some provisional libraries. I also need to use oAuth 2 with Google services
so would be happy to contribute.

The other thing I would add is - if you are going to try out the project
browser for goodness sake turn off thumbnails first!

Just an FYI, the mergGoogle library also works on Macs (but not other

On the first day, God created the heavens and the Earth
On the second day, God created the oceans.
On the third day, God put the animals on hold for a few hours,
   and did a little diving.
And God said, "This is good."

Re: Gmail API and Oath 2 - How to access using LiveCode ?

2015-11-29 Thread Monte Goulding
That's right. It uses Google's objective-c sdk which covers iOS and Mac. For a
completely cross platform solution you would want to implement it all in
LiveCode script and use the browser widget or revBrowser for the oauth2
authorisation. If it helps anyone I can make a generic oauth2 dialog available
for iOS and Mac in the external but seeing as that's not very hard to do it's
probably not worth it.

Re: Death of the Application Browser

2015-11-29 Thread Paul Looney
I personally use Geoff's Navigator all the time. I find it indispensable! I
have never liked the Application Browser.

I’m always surprised at how few people have even heard of the Navigator - let
alone actually using it - despite the fact that it is bundled with LiveCode.

Thanks again, Geoff.

Re: Transparent MobileControl?

2015-11-29 Thread Scott Rossi
Not sure if you ever got an answer to this, but in the simulator, setting
the opaque property to false and the backgroundColor to something like
255,255,255,0 seems to work here. The alpha property doesn't appear to
have any bearing on this control.
