On-Rev antispam (& reCAPTCHA)

2011-03-05 Thread Medard
Bonjour !

After all, on my modest On-Rev blog, I am beginning to get some spam ;->

In my blog, comments are written to separate text files -- so it's easy
to delete and regenerate them when they are filled with spam ;-)

But it is turning into a tedious work!

I thought of a "reCAPTCHA" solution (now owned by Google), but it seems
a little laborious -- and mostly I don't understand exactly how to
operate with On-Rev...

The "client" side is quite clear (a form with some script statements),
but I don't see how to code the "server" side...

They do have some sample code, but not too much -- and no "irev" code,
only PHP code (I am willing to do that in irev code)

Searching the Nabble archives, I saw that Pierre "Wo...ords" used some
antispam, but he seems to be using a simpler solution (number of chars
of the email address)

What are your thoughts about that?

On-Rev: authentication problems (Safari?)

2011-01-19 Thread Medard
Recently, I went with authentication problems concerning On-Rev...

As well as the "On-Rev" destop app, as "cPanel"

The problem with the desktop app seems to be resolved
(and also, there are some alternatives)

The problem remains unresolved connecting to cPanel is impossible, as it
refuses my name/password.

I wrote to the tech support, and they told me that things worked for
them*!

Usually, I go on the web with Safari... so I had an idea, and tested
Firefox, which is my second web browser: that worked!!!

So, the problem seems to lie into Safari...
I remembered that I had some problems with a Safari extension, Adblock,
that caused Safari to crash on opening a revlet.
I deactivated that extension -- with no luck ;-(

Also, I noticed some trouble with the password verification routine
within cPanel: in Safari that leaded to an "AJAX error" -- I don't know
if it is related to authentication problem.
And the password routine works like a charm in Firefox!

Mac OS X 10.6.5
Safari 5.0.3
Firefox 3.5.16

* besides that, they advised me to change my password, as I was still
using the one they gave me at start ;-)

As the guys at Gmane, I don't like mailing lists as they exist (and
moreover web based mailing lists ;->)

So I am reading this list on the old newsreader "MacSOUP" :-)
And sometimes I am overwhelmed by huge html pages...
[yes, you on the french-speaking list ;-)]

Also, I read interesting things in the doc at Gmane: they say you can
post with a Gmane public address:

=
In fact, feel free to use your public.gmane.org address anywhere. While
it's difficult for me to promise that your encrypted address will work
forever, I have no plans for limiting the use of these addresses.

but there is nowhere a place (AFIK) explaining how to create such an
address...

The charset is set accordingly to the platform, and is only changed when

How about a "whois" query?

get $_SERVER["REMOTE_ADDR"]
put it into tip
put "whois" && tip into tcde
put shell(tcde)

A little surprise with LiveCode and On-Rev

2010-12-19 Thread Medard
Again, some musing with On-Rev ;-)

I made a simple "blog" with my reading notes around the web
[mostly in french]

As for now I am putting together pieces to create one file, a head, a
body, and a footer

The body itself is made from concatenating html files included in a
dedicated folder

For the first times, I made that by hand.

Now I am trying to build them via a dedicated LiveCode stack, and for
now that works properly -- excepted for the accented chars, which are
replaced by  ;->

I took a look at the bottom of the TextWrangler page, to notice that the
charset was not the good one, it was "Mac OS Roman"instead of "UTF-8 no
BOM"!

So, it seems that files written by LiveCode, at least on a Mac, have a
"Mac OS Roman" charset by default...

Maybe there is some Preference to fix that, but for now I don't where...

Something strange with On-Rev

2010-12-11 Thread Medard
I encounter a strange thing: at the footer in my web pages, I put a
notice stating the last modification date.

This date is calculated on the server, with a dedicated procedure
(Thanks to Sarah :-))

===script===

-- get the path to the page just loaded
put $_SERVER["PATH_TRANSLATED"] into tPath

-- use the ls shell command to get the details for this file
put shell("ls -l " & quote & tPath & quote) into tListing

put line 1 of tListing into tFileData

-- remove the excess data
delete word 1 to 5 of tFileData
replace tPath with empty in tFileData

put word 2 of tFileData into tjour
put word 1 of tFileData into tmois
put word 3 of tFileData into tannee

put "Modif. Medard" && tjour && tmois && tannee

=

this procedure is called in the footer as an include:

On the "interior" web pages, the date is OK:

Modif. Medard 30 Nov 2009

But i get this on the home page:

Modif. Medard 11 Dec 10:30

?

Any idea?
That said, it is only a cosmetic big ;-)
I wonder myself the very same procedure gives two different results,
depending on the position in the directory hierarchy...

I know only two ways to access one's website at On-Rev:

- the desktop client, for the Mac it's here:
http://www.on-rev.com/templates/onrev/files/onrevosx.dmg

- and the remote volume:
user.on-rev.com Secure WebDisk

besides that, there is a control panel to manage your internet server
count, named cPanel; the the sake of it, I access normally cPanel
(and I am still forbidden from the desktop client)

I forgot, with a ftp client, such as the one included in TextWrangler,
you can upload files onto the server [c'est la roue de secours ;-)]
CyberDuck does the work, also!

It's only the desktop client that refuses my connection ;-<

I read something like this:

=
During a round of recruiting at my last job at a tech startup in London
I got to experience first hand just how terrible most applicants are.
I interviewed a load of candidates who all claimed 5years + industry
experience so I was expecting great things. Unfortunately my incredibly
taxing interview question proved too much for them all ...
"In any language you like (with no attention paid to getting every last
semi-colon in the right place) write a function that reverses a string."
By the afternoon adding -
"Do not cheat and call your languages' equivalent of str_reverse."
No one managed it and I learned why I needed to phone screen people from
then on. :(
=

I wondered myself whether it could simple with Revolution^W LiveCode
transcript^W xtalk*...

So I wrote a little demo stack to perform that task as an exercise
-- the readers of the french-speaking list already know that, by I think
it may respond to your request :-)

I proposed that to the list, and soon some co-lista answered with better
solutions!

The winner (IMHO) was a function including a loop with a for each
statement:

===
repeat for each char myChar in tWord
  put myChar before tinvWord
end repeat
===

*not kidding: what is the name of the language in LC?
