Re: [OT] 100GB free cloud storage for Android
I didn't test it out, but the Box app store says the Windows desktop integration is part of their paid service as well as Mac. Jacque, the Box wen interface has an option to Bulk Upload, allowing you to select multiple files to upload. I agree i's a pain if you can only select one at a time. Somewhat off-topic but talking of desktop apps reminded me of a utility I found recently name Fluid (www.fluidapp.com) that will create a web app from any URL. Mac only I'm afraid. My wife started using the Google calendar instead of ICal recently and couldn't get used to getting to her calendar in a web browser so I created a gCAl web app for her and now she's fine with it. Yes, I agree, used it many times for the same purpose. I actually prefer Box over Dropbox, but maybe it's because of the things I need/want to do with this type of storage. It solves problems for me that I didn't even know were problems. And saves me from copying files onto thumbdrives and carting them around. But there are situations where it doesn't fit - the need to install the client and account info on other machines makes sense for my computer at work and the machines at home, but might not fit other scenarios. You can share Dropbox folders, but I find it easier to use other file-sharing mechanisms for read-only situations, as I don't have to use otherwise-scarce storage space and I don't have to micromanage the sharing and deletion details quite as tightly. -- -Mark Wieder mwie...@ahsoftware.net ___ use-livecode mailing list use-livecode@lists.runrev.com Please visit this url to subscribe, unsubscribe and manage your subscription preferences: http://lists.runrev.com/mailman/listinfo/use-livecode
Re: [OT] 100GB free cloud storage for Android
Folks, Box is pretty useful. Check out Box Apps at http://www.box.com/services and you will see integration with Desktop and lots of others services. Box API is very useful too. IIRC Box allow you to share a folder(s) and/or file(s) with third-party users with password even if they don't have a box.net account so it makes it easier to collaborate with clients. Dropbox can share folders but only with other dropbox users. I am still learning more about Box, I got 50GB as a freebie with my Touchpad... so far, I like box... I have 50GB on Dropbox as well (all my stuff is on dropbox). I think Box is useful as a tool to share things with clients. ___ use-livecode mailing list use-livecode@lists.runrev.com Please visit this url to subscribe, unsubscribe and manage your subscription preferences: http://lists.runrev.com/mailman/listinfo/use-livecode

Re: [OT] 100GB free cloud storage for Android
Another thing, AFAICT, is there's no desktop integration with Box. You can connect using WebDAV but all transfers from the desktop fail (at least last time I checked). They offer a SimpleShare application, but it is only that: drag a file onto the icon and it gets transferred to one designated directory in your Box account. If someone has found a way to to reliably transfer files to and from Box from a desktop system, please share how you did it. Box's storage offer is great, but being able to access it only via a browser is a bit limited compared to something like DropBox. Right. I saw the announcement in my Android feeds today and had the same reservations. No desktop synch, limited uploads. I suppose if you think of it as a one-way backup system it might be okay, as long as you only back up smaller files. Most of my LiveCode work would fit.
