Re: SystemWindow editable fields?

2004-02-15 Thread Thomas McGrath III
When I have systemWindow true 'as palette' I can do anything in either
the web browser or with in the Rev Standalone app I built.
In fact I am doing it now. I have my REV app open and it is above my
mail program but I can type this email. Then if I want I can click on
my rev app and do something there too. If I hit a button in the
floating window the email app stays on top and the button still works
BUT if I click in a field in the REV app then it comes to the front.

Actually, no I can't. I get a beep instead. When Rev is the frontmost

I'd like to see it; I made a simple project with an "on dragWindow"
handler at the card layer and told it to put the location of the window.
It only did so when I released. Earlier you'd mentioned a dragWindow
"function" - could this be the difference? Is there some kind of
external at play?

Long ago, someone contributed this:

open file "com3:" for write
write "ATS7=1L0DT" & tNumber & cr to file "com3:"
wait 10 secs
close file "com3:"
This is similar to that mentioned before, except this sets carrier wait
time to 1 second and turns off the speaker volume.

You might prefer that the wait time is longer or the speaker being on.
You might also consider setting register S6 for blind dialing.

For games that have a phone to use the first might be used, but so can

For the latter, the utility is awkward, because of the need to take the
phone off hook by hand and to hangup by hand. There may be some uses
where the ringing of the phone is the desired result.

Since these are straightforward to build, these might be better in
somebody's goodies collection than in Revolution. Or in tips.

Unfortunately, more serious phone control is more expensive or harder.
One way to go is BlueTooth. Another is a phone gadget that looks like

Thanks for the suggestion, Sean. The systemWindow does seem to receive
the "resumeStack" message, but still does not seem to want to set
itself to the toplevel. In the stack script

I get a nice system beep whenever I return to the stack, but still

Thanks for your response, Ken.

By setting the systemWindow to false I would lose the ability to have
the window visible at all times. Unless, are you suggesting that I
somehow reset the systemWindow to true whenever the suspendStack
message is sent?

Are you able in Panther to open a web page in a separate browser and
then enter and edit text in a field with the systemWindow property set
to true? Most of the time the keydown messages get sent to the browser
and not to the Rev app, even though I click in the field to highlight
it in the Rev app first.

There are indeed times when this actually works in my project - I can
actually go back and forth between the Rev window and the browser
window and enter text into various fields in the Rev app, but those
times are rare. I can't figure out what causes it to work right.

But dialing has nothing to do with it being a voice modem. The modem
has to dial when making a data connection, too.

Maybe this operational procedure will work.

1. The operator clicks a button to start a dial.
2. When it is complete the operator picks up a handset or turns on a
headset.
3. The modem waits a bit an hangs up, but the operator stays on. (Or
the operator clicks something else.)
4. Conversation.
5. The operator hangs up or turns off the headset (effectively hanging
up).

All you need is the dialing for step 1. Try the AT commands for that.

Off the top of my head:

on dial dNumber
  open driver "com3:" for update
write "AT" & numToChar(13) to driver "com3:"-- dummy command
write "ATDT & dNumber & numToChar(13) to driver "com3:"-- dial number
send hangUp to me in 10 seconds
end dial
on hangUp
  write "ATH0" & numToChar(13) to driver "com3:"
  close driver "com3:"
end hangUp
You have to modify this to use the right com port. You might like a
different way to hang up. If you use an external modem you may need to
set up serialControlString. Some modems are not exactly Hayes
compatible and you may need to fiddle with the line end.

Perhaps I am missing something in what you need.

I don't think so. It looks like you're saying "dragWindow" in SC gets
executed after you drag, but that cannot be true. Specifying a location for
the palette window relative to the main window causes the palette to stay
docked in the main window wherever you drag it. I'd be happy to send you an
example I have running in SC4 if you like.

Then "moveStack" in Rev cannot be the same as "dragWindow" in SC.

Which is the same as "dragWindow" in SC, I think.

Whatever the case, I can see a need to use the feature cross-platform, so I
need to experiment. I'll let you know my findings.

But for now, I only need it to run in Windows. My Windows machine is
basically monitorless at the moment. The Switchbox causes a ghost problem on
the Mac. I tried changing settings but no joy. I had to use a direct
connection which takes great effort for me to deal with.

For the moment, I'm trying to avoid building windowShape emulations or fake
window graphics (possible but too much work).

I pulled a bunch of telephone dial tones off that site. I don't see how its
possible for them to be copyrighted, but you never know.

For our volunteer group, I'm trying to build a custom dialer for Windows in
Rev, but it's turning out to be a pain in the script. I must say I really
miss HyperCard's "dial" command. Any chance of getting that feature down the
road? I.e., a replacement for:

dial "1234567"
-- or
dial "1234567" with modem

Anyway, my question burns down to this:

How to dial a phone number in Windows from Rev:

A) Using the modem.

I found this:

on dial dNumber
  open file "modem:" for write
write "ATDT" && dNumber to file "modem:" ## Does it need '& return'?
  close file "modem:"
end dial dNumber

B) Through the speakers, if that is the only other option.

I understand modem AT commands, but I also know that voice modems are a
rarity, so anything done this way means the phone must be held off the hook.
Still, using the modem to dial would still be much more convenient than
having to hold the receiver up to a speaker.

Doug,

There isn't a "select all objects" command, but you can accomplish it in
one of two ways:

1) select and and ... and

2) repeat through all the objects and set the 'selected' property of the
object to true

Personally I prefer #2 as it is easier:

repeat with x = 1 to the number of controls
set the selected of control x to true
  end repeat

Then execute the "group" command.

After you have grouped a set of objects, you can select individual
objects in the group *by* script at any time, but if you want the user
to manipulate them with the pointer tool, you'll need to set the
selectGroupedControls property to true.

Re: Activate Rev.

2004-02-15 Thread Mark MacKenzie
Yes you are correct I think.

Please see this URL for more information from the horse's mouth.

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?url=/technet/scriptcenter/scrptfaq.asp

There is a table on that page which details OS and what works or not.

There is even a promise of future development of a script which will
query the host system for details on whether other scripts will run or not.

Windows installers such as SetUpFactory from Indigo Rose which I have
used a lot, will poll the windows system and allow separate, Boolean
logic driven installs of ancillary software.

However, another caveat when considering Windows or VB scripts for
activating Revolution is that on my system (XP with McCafee) the
antivirus software throws a suspicious script activity warning requiring
"training" by the user. Not a good user/client confidence building
exercise!

So, I don't think the current scripting ideas do what was originally
wanted. Looking at a direct comand line script may be better.

Regards Mark MacKenzie

I believe that you have to do this outside Revolution. On the Mac you
can readily use Applescripting.
Windows is a bit trickier.
I have just been reviewing the Windows Scripting Host and it looks
promising.
Have a look at the Windows site for this.

I created a simple *.vbs file in notepad. This is a text file created
in Notepad and saved with .vbx suffix. When called it works through
the Windows Scripting Host resident within Win2000 and XP.

File Contents as follows:

Const MAXIMIZE_WINDOW = 9
Set objShell = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell")
objShell.Run "Revolution.exe", MAXIMIZE_WINDOW
saved as file: minmaxprogwind.vbs

Please be advised that this script does not do what you wish as when I
just tested it with an instance of Revolution open and minimized it
actually called another instance of Rev. and opened it maximized!
This is a run command. Perhaps the answer lies through using a "start
using" command. Certainly I was looking for that but found this
instead..

You would also have to call this script from within whatever
application you are using while Rev. app. is in the background. Many
programs allow that.

Back to poking around windows scripting!

Re: SystemWindow editable fields?

2004-02-15 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
does a "systemWindow" receive the "resumeStack" message? if so, try
putting the "topStack" command there.. (can't test for you as it
doesn't work in windows, nor is the "systemWindow" property available in
the version of runrev i run =/

SystemWindow editable fields?

2004-02-15 Thread Dan Soneson
I just discovered the systemWindow property, which presents great
possibilities for me in terms of building a web browser navigator. I am
interested in directing the user to a specific web site and then
presenting a set of activities and tasks to do with the material on the
web page, for educational purposes. The systemWindow property allows me
to keep my activity screen floating above the web page, even when the
browser is the active application.

However, it seems I am not able to enter text into editable text fields
in my window. I can select the field, but cannot enter text. I can drag
text from the web page into one of the fields in my window, but once
there, cannot edit the text either. (only tried with Rev 2.1.2 and OS X
10.2.6 so far)

I attempt to set the stack to editable via the topLevel command -- to
no effect, with one exception. If I include a button with the following
script, it works just fine:

on mouseUp
answer "You can now enter text into any field"
   lock messages
   topLevel this stack
   unlock messages
end mouseUp
It seems calling up the answer dialog box allows me to set my stack to
the toplevel. Without the answer dialog, the topLevel command has no
effect. However, whenever I click on the browser window I lose the
ability to enter or modify text in the fields in my window, until I run
the answer dialog again.

Is there any way to topLevel my systemWindow stack without a dialog
box? Or any other workaround for allowing users to enter text into a
stack with the systemWindow property set to true?

Thanks,
Dan

Connection Failure/Launching HTML file

2004-02-15 Thread Stu Duncan
I am struggling with my limited Mac knowledge to solve the following
problem. I am attempting to launch an HTML file using the following code
which some kind person had placed on this list in the past. It works fine in
Windows, but when I attempt to use it on a Mac running some version of OS 9
it launches Internet Explorer OK but doesn't load the HTML file and instead
coughs up an Error box which says " A connection failure has occurred." I
can launch the HTML file by double clicking it, so I don't think there is a
problem with the resource fork although all of these files came from a
Windows machine. The path appears to be correct.

/Macintosh HD/Desktop Folder/Boreal Digital Dissection
Suite/Series/dswmedia/dissect.htm

on mouseup
put the defaultfolder & vPathAndFileNames into vPath
put the defaultfolder & vPathAndFileNames --puts out the above path
  launchfile vPath
end mouseup

on launchFile pFileName
  switch the platform
  case "Win32"
set the hideConsoleWindows to true
put empty into theTitle
if "NT" is in the systemVersion then
  set the shellCommand to "cmd.exe"
put quote & quote into theTitle
end if
get shell("start" && theTitle && Qt(pFileName))
break
  case "MacOS"
if word 1 of the systemVersion >=10 then
do ("open location "&Qt(pFileName)) as appleScript
else
do ("open location "&Qt(revMacFromUnixPath(pFileName))) as appleScript
end if
break
  default
get shell("konquerer" && Qt(pFileName))
break
  end switch
end launchFile

What platforms have you been using the fonts on? Have you seen any
surprises in sizes?
