The "filter" command is one of those things that you can stare at for
a while, but it doesn't really click until you have a use for it. Then
whole new worlds open up.

Re: [OT] Opinions about On-Rev

2009-05-20 Thread Bill Marriott
Right, Marty. And let me point out one other aspect

When you get your on-Rev account, you'll have a default folder set up for
your initial user.on-rev.com subdomain. When you create the "add-on" domain
in the control panel, you'll be able to specify this folder, or a new
folder, or any existing folder as the "root" of the domain you're
specifying.

In this way you can keep domains separate, or you can link multiple domains
to the same folder.

Suppose you have:

superdomain.com
superdomain.net
superdomain.info
superdomain.biz

These would be four "add-on" domains, four registrations with GoDaddy. But
you can map them all to the "superdomain" folder on your on-rev account, so
you put all your stuff in one place. Then you could have a domain,

mypersonalsite.org

which maps to the "mysite" folder on your on-Rev account (the folder names
don't have to match anything in particular) and this would be a completely
separate collection of content.

So, to address the OP's question, "How do you 'change a sub-domain to an
AddOn domain?'" The answer is you really don't. The subdomain is like a
phone number; that doesn't change. You can add as many prefixes (i guess
they would be called, sub-subdomains) for example

x.y.z.user.on-rev.com

But you cannot change the user.on-rev.com part. You can specify that your
"add-on" domain(s) point to the same folder that user.on-rev.com does (like
a phone number that forwards to the same physical telephone as another
number) -- the default folder we set up for you at account creation. Or, you
can just keep your default folder empty and create new folders for your
"add-on domains" as desired.

Re: [OT] Opinions about On-Rev

2009-05-20 Thread Marty Knapp

Hey Alex,

You'll need to register a domain name with a registrar - many people
here have recommended GoDaddy, which is what I use. Let's say you
register "alextweedly.com" Then you edit the Nameserver setting with the
registrar so that it points to On-Rev with the info that On-Rev
provides, which is probably:

ns1.on-rev.com
ns2.on-rev.com

Then you can create an "Add-on" domain in your On-Rev control panel with
the name you registered. Place your web site files in this new
directory. Within a short while everything should sync up and requests
for "alextweedly.com" will bring visitors to your On-Rev hosted site.
And with On-Rev you can host unlimited sites.

A "freebie" you get with On-Rev is a user space with your account name,
like "alextweedly.on-rev.com". You can host a site at this address
without further registration.

Hi Hershel,

I created a standalone with two buttons. One button sets the
decorations to "title, menu, minimize" and the other to "menu, minimize".
Both buttons work as expected.

If I set the decorations before creating the standalone, the stack
appears with the menu, title and minimise box enabled, while the close
box and maximise box are disabled. This is works as expected, too.

Is there anything special about your stack, which might affect
decorations? Perhaps you have the style set the modal? (Actually, I
just tested it and if you set the stack style to modal, the menu title
and minimise box don't appear at all, but there might be something
similar affecting the decorations).

Re: Reducing image file sizes

2009-05-20 Thread Mark Schonewille

Hi,

Here's an approach, quite similar to Jim's. It should be easily
adjustable to use any object (e.g. a rectangular graphic) to determine
the target dimensions. E.g., you could replace the line starting with
"put rescale" with the follwing:

put rescale(the formattedWidth of img 1,the formattedHeight of img 1, \
the width of grc "Some Rectengular Graphic",the height of grc
"Some Rectengular Graphic") \

 into myNewRect

on mouseUp
answer file "Select a picture" with type "PNG file|png|PNGf" or
type \
"GIF file|gif|GIFf" or type "JPEG file|jpg|JPEG" or type
"All files|*|*"

 lock screen
if it is not empty then
set the filename of img 1 to it
put rescale(the formattedWidth of img 1,the formattedHeight
of img 1, \
the width of this cd,the height of this cd) into
myNewRect

set the width of img 1 to item 1 of myNewRect
set the height of img 1 to item 2 of myNewRect
set the loc of img 1 to the loc of this cd
  unlock screen
export img 1 to myPict as PNG
ask file "Save as..." with "test.png"
if it is not empty then
   put it into myFile
open file myFile for binary write
   write myPict to file myFile
   close file myFile
  end if
 end if
end mouseUp

function rescale theImgWidth,theImgHeight,theCdWidth,theCdHeight
 -- put the executioncontexts
-- determine longest side and rescale
 if theCdWidth/theImgWidth < theCdHeight/theImgHeight then
put theCdWidth / theImgWidth into myRatio
 else
put theCdHeight / theImgHeight into myRatio
 end if
put theImgWidth * myRatio into myNewWidth
put theImgHeight * myRatio into myNewHeight
 return myNewWidth,myNewHeight
end rescale

Quite shocking this has not been addressed earlier. Got my votes.

The team is acutely aware of this, it is probably one of the
most-requested enhancements. It isn't a bug, the features were simply
never implemented.

When RR acquired the MetaCard engine, the field object was (and remains)
extremely complex. Apparently Scott Raney called the field object "the
beast". Every OS requires a different way of handling text
manipulations. I've heard that the code for fields is some of the
snarliest in the whole engine.

The team is committed to implementing all the requested features, but it
is a tremendous undertaking that will require a complete rewrite of the
underlying code for fields. It isn't trivial. It's on their to-do list,
along with much easier unicode support.

In the mean time, we do already have support for first-line indents,
subscripts, and superscripts. Rudimentary variable line spacing is
accomplished by turning off fixedlineheight. I know that isn't
professional-level text handling, but the rest will be coming.

Re: Arrays

2009-05-20 Thread Bernard Devlin
Hi Tom,

Assuming your data is in a variable called tData, and is structured like this:

Elliot and Cooper Roads, sparrow
Elliot and Cooper Roads, magpie
Elliot and Cooper Roads, dove
Elliot and Cooper Roads, owl
Downing Street, sparrow

this will give you a list of the birds in Elliot and Cooper Roads:

put tData into tSubset
put "Elliot and Cooper Roads" into tRoadName
filter tSubset with (tRoadName & "*")
replace (tRoadName & comma & space) with empty in tSubset

tSubset now contains a list of bird types from tRoadName.

If you want to extract each road name and get the list of birds seen
at that place, then you will need to loop over the whole list to
associate all the birds from a place with just that name.

It would probably be easier to be using an array for this. In case
you are having trouble imagining it as an array, I generally think of
arrays in Rev as dictionaries. That is, each identifier in the array
is unique like the head words in the dictionary, and each has data
associated with it.

If you used an array (a dictionary) then each road name would be like
a word you look up in the dictionary. When you wanted to add an
observation made at a particular road it would be as easy as this:

put "sparrow" & return after tObservationDictionary[tRoadName]

To get all the birds for 1 road you would do this:

put tObservationDictionary[tRoadName] into tBirdList

To get a list of all the roads, it would be:

put the keys of tObservationDictionary

Hope that helps.

Re: repeat loop test

Colin,
Thank you for the tip about changing the level of objects losing the
numbering. I replaced 'set layers' with 'hide and show' in a version of my
original script and it now works like a dream. :-)

Re: Help Revolutionize the Web

2009-05-20 Thread Luis

Quite shocking this has not been addressed earlier. Got my votes.

Cheers,

Luis.

Voting Does Work. The 4.0 web plugin was an Enhancement Request
that a
few of us had many years ago. I voted for it, so I'm sure with
enough

votes you could get your enhancement request implemented.
