Printing Problems
I am trying to print a card and the result is that the graphics print out but not the text. This is a new problem because it used to work fine. I am using Rev 4.0 and Mac OSX 10.6.4 on an intel iMac. All the text fields use Arial and changing the font does not yield any different results. A .doc file with arial text prints fine. I have looked at the dictionary and tried set the formatForPrinting of stack "WSResults" to true but this didn't help either. Any pointers you might have to fix this would be greatly appreciated. I am also a great admirer of what Voyager did with HyperCard. How many of you saw their "A hard Day's Night" stack? Black and white and beautiful. I have the documentation for the Toolkit product they put out. This lists the address as 888 Seventh Avebue, New York NY 10106 Phone (212) 753 7100 However, the copyright notice indicates a 1992 date. They list twp programmers: Brock LaPorte and Colin Holgate. Dear Jan, Thanks for the tip. It is certainly a lot simpler and far more elegant than my solution. I wonder how you would deal with a script that includes a repeat loop that does something like the following: put 1 into i repeat 3 put "ETGUG" & i into x put x into fld i of cd "Results" add 1 to i end repeat I will play with this and see what I come up with. Re: curious behavior...
Slightly off topic but to do with numberFormat. I have had some difficulties with this property which I have managed to get around. I needed to do some calculations and enter the result in a field limiting the number to two decimal places. Set the numberFormat to "0.00" works as documented. My difficulty came when I needed to do calculations within a repeat loop e.g. set the numberFormat to "0.00" put 1 into i repeat 3 put "ETGUG" & i into x add fld x to fld "Answer" add 1 to i end repeat Because of the numberFormat instead of x being ETGUG1 as I had hoped because that is the name of the field thet I wanted, it becomes ETGUG1.00 and since there is no field ETGUG1.00 the script fails. As I said, I have managed to solve the problem by constantly changing the numberFormat property so this is not a pressing issue. However, it was messy and I thought that if it were possible to set the number format of the field this would simplify the process. I tried set the numberForma t of fld "ETGUG1" but, as documented, this does not work. Does anyone know if there is some way to accomplish this? Building a standalone - problem 1
I wonder if somebody could help me with building a standalone, a task which is new to me. Here is what I am doing. I have built two main stacks; “SLDataCollection” which I use to collect and store data and “SLResults” which is essentially a single card where I place the results for printing. Everything works as planned on my mac (PowerBook G4, 10.3.3). Now I would like to build a standalone. Since I will be collecting and storing data the “SLDataCollection” stack cannot be a standalone, therefore, following the docs and much advice from this list, I have mad a single card stack which will act as a splash screen. This stack has a small animation and includes the following script: on openstack set the loc of me to the screenLoc start using stack "SLDataCollection" start using stack "StepLengthresults" animation stuff here - hides and shows fields lock screen go stack "SLDataCollection" in window "StepLength" unlock screen with visual barn door open end openstack I have put the two original main stacks in a folder “SLStuff” which is within a folder that contains the splash screen. The first problem I am having is that this splash screen hangs up because it cannot locate the stacks in the start using commands. If I open these stacks and close them again the splash screen works fine. In reading the docs I think that I have to provide a filePath to these files in the “SLStuff” folder. I have spent a frustrating few hours trying to get this done without success. Any help would be greatly appreciated - and I haven't even built the standalone yet! Re: Video Tutorials on the Geometry Manager
Chris - this is a great idea. I was an early adopter of Oracle Media Objects (you had to be early otherwise you missed out completely because the application was pulled fro the market!). One of the things that they did was to produce two videos (VHS) which showed how one could use the application to build build stacks. It was very well done and gave me a lot of useful information about how to script. When Revolution was being developed I talked to Kevin Miller about doing something similar. However, the way that Chipp developed the tutorials to run on the computer would be a huge step forward in delivering video-based instruction. BTW, the software that Chipp used is only available for developing on windows machines (although playback is cross platform). I am fairly sure there is an application that can do the same thing on the Mac and would appreciate it if anyone on the list could confirm this and supply product details. Re: Video Tutorials on the Geometry Manager
Chipp The tutorials were extremely helpful. The second did not run all the way through for me. The picture disappeared although your voice continued with the commentary. This method of instruction, i.e. movies, is being used by Apple for their on-line seminars and they are very effective. I would love to see you do a tutorial on how you produced your tutorials. Re: Revolution at MacWorld
Heather: I have a stack which I developed in MetaCard which I will be converting to RunRev. If that disqualifies me don't bother reading further. The stack has been developed to assess functional mobility, particularly in the elderly who are prone to falls. Essentially I time how long it takes a patient to dod some task such as standing up from a chair or walking. The stack has two elements, the first of which is to show a clinician how to run the test. This is done primarily through QT movies. The second part allows the clinician to time the various tasks within the test. This is done using the mouse button as the input device and clicking on a picture of a stopwatch. The stack also calculates the results and presents them in text and graphic formats. If you think this might be of interest I would be delighted to demonstrate it.
