Connecting Rev Entreprise to Oracle is not always simple but it worked always
for me (to the end) for 8i, 9i or 10g, under Solaris (Rev 2.1.2), Linux and OS
X in using 2 different ways : a Shell-based or a PHP-based middleware.

2010-05-02 Thread Sakari Ruoho

Hi Pierre,

I've tried 10g and 11g under Solaris and OS X with RunRev on OS X and
Windows. I suppose I could get it working with middleware, but I don't
think that's the idea if you promote that the product can connect
directly to Oracle DB? Can't use the build in db functions that way can you?

The documentation says that one can run RunRev on SPARC, HP-UX, SCO Open

and Solaris for x86 architecture:

so I wouldn't put too much faith in the documentation.

Is rev Oracle support just a joke?

2009-10-27 Thread Sakari Ruoho

Hi,

this question has been raising to my mind mind lately. I have not been
able to connect Oracle with Revolution using the normal connection
identifiers. So my question is if the Revolution really is supporting
Oracle connections or is it just a hoax? It could be that I'm making the
mistake when trying to connect the db, but then again there's no
documentation to tell me if so and I don't think the idea is code my own
OCI interface for Oracle?

Hi Sakari,

Oracle support for Revolution is not a joke - I'm assuming you have an
Enterprise license otherwise you can't connect to Oracle anyway.

First of all, on which platform and cpu architecture are you working?
Secondly, what version of Oracle are you trying to connect to?
Thirdly, can you give us the exact code you're using to connect?

Hi Jan,

thanks for the reply, I was already given up the hope for connecting

revOpenDatabase(oracle, localhost, ORCL, sakari, test) ORCL
being the SID, sakari the username and test the password. I'm using

I did try several variation of that same string with port number

I'm not a dba so dunno all the tricks. If you could help me out, that
would be greatly appreciated.

The server shouldn't be the difference, it's the Rev client. Is this client on
MaxOSX running on Intel by any chance? I seem to recall that the RevDB driver
for Oracle couldn't be updated because the underlying library for Intel hadn't
been released yet by Oracle itself.

Aha, just dug up entry 7102 in the Quality Center
http://quality.runrev.com/qacenter/show_bug.cgi?id=7102 which confirms that
theory. However, there is now an InstantCLient available for MacOSX on Intel:
http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/macos/index.html

So first try to run Rev inside Rosetta, and if that works, then the problem is
indeed the non-existing Intel driver. In which case, you should email
supp...@runrev.com to ask for an update to this driver; and also ask Mark
Schonewille to re-open the entry in the Quality Center.
