Re: OT: SheepSaver

2010-10-26 Thread Bob Sneidar
I just checked the TCP/IP setting and it looks like they bridge their own
network with the native OS X network. Because of this a lot of things will not
work, such as MacPing. This was a really cool ping scanner because you could
ping a whole subnet of addresses, then start pulling Ethernet jumpers at the
switches, and easily map which computer was on which port (think dumb
switches). MacPing will not ping through the bridge. It may actually not be a
bridge but a software router, because normally pings through a bridge would
work fine. Oddly, it detects all the devices on the native network, but the
pings fail after that.

Re: OT: SheepSaver

2010-10-26 Thread Matthias Rebbe
Hi,

thanks for all your answers.

I installed it now here with Mac OS9, which was the only version i could find
in my cellar.
The software TextureScape runs w/o any crashes so far. Only Rebirth RB-338
crashes.
Now i will try install and run Pixar Typestry. If this runs also, i will be
more than happy.

Btw. i am getting a little bit sentimental when running Mac OS 9.

Regards,

Matthias

Version 2.3 (2009-10-25) was released and fixed a whole lot of crashes.
I haven't had any trouble with this version, in fact, it seems quite
stable. Your docs are still valid I think, as far as I know the
installation process didn't change. There's also another setup document

It works fine for apps internal to OS 8/9 but their networking leaves a lot to
be desired. Your local area network will not be visible to Sheepshaver, and vis
versa.

I don't use it often (I use it to occasionally take a look at an old

I certainly don't resent the space it takes on my disk, by contrast with

Hi Matthias,

I believe the problem is that "SheepShaver", (which I think
is the correct name), ran only under 9.04 which was a very
buggy version of OS 9 which crashed frequently.

You are also correct that 10.4 was the last environment
which allowed "Classic" to run, so you have a double
whammy on this one.

Good luck!
