HI Nic: Can't speak to your overall question, but did want to alert you to detailed files bug in 2.8 that has been discussed here, in case you have not encountered it. If you use v 2.8, modification dates start showing 1969 due to a misplaced zero in item 5. Plus there is a similar issue with the permissions item.
