And of course I did include the alternating line colors like iTunes
in my recent release of the iTunes Library Suite. (Now that I
calibrated my monitors I can actually see them, sweet.)

I can now see the alternating lines in iTunes which I really thought

Bonjour Sims,

Trevor's solution is of course very interesting but if you want a
straight and easy one, just make a pattern and lock the image.

Then:

on ChangeFieldTextHeight pFld,pHeight,pPatternImage
  lock screen
set the textHeight of pFld to pHeight
set the height of pPatternImage to pHeight * 2
set the backPattern of pFld to the backPattern of pFld
  -- refreshes pattern
  unlock screen
end ChangeFieldTextHeight

Re: itunes alternating lines

2008-10-26 Thread Eric Chatonet
I agree: I would like just controls in Rev (like list fields and
other ones) to respect OS behavior.

But setting highlighted lines white is rather easy:

on mouseDown
  lock screen
set the textColor of char 1 to -1 of me to empty
do set the textColor of char 1 to -1 of the selectedLine
to white

  unlock screen
end mouseDown

With the hiliteColor set to 63,127,227.

Le 25 oct. 08 à 21:36, Richard Gaskin a écrit :

I suppose one could walk through the hilitedLines and change the
text color of each selected line, but by the time we ad those steps
to the several steps needed to get the stripes at all we have to
wonder if the sum of all of our energy replicating all this is
perhaps greater than what it would take to make it a no-brainer in
the engine once.

I'll kick in 20 bucks. Anyone else?

While this is easy I would like to point out one of the differences
between this technique and the one in my lesson. My handler creates an
image that contains an offset value. This means that if you have two
rows that are 18 pixels each and an offset of 2 then the final image
will have:

* 2 rows of color 2
* 18 rows of color 1
* 16 rows of color 2

If you were to try and resize the resulting image using your handler
the offset would not remain the same (i.e. it might increase to 3 or 4
pixels or go down to 1), hence why you regenerate the background
pattern each time.

The reason the offset is important is due to the field borders.
Without the offset the field borders will cover the first two pixels
of line 1 of your list field. So visually the line will appear to be
16 pixels rather than 18 pixels. By using an offset all 18 pixels of
line 1 are visible.

If you don't mind this visual disparity in your program or if you are
not using borders with your field then Eric's solution will work fine.
If anyone wants to look at the handler again I will provide the link
again for reference:

Bonsoir Trevor,

As I said the solution you provide is much more accomplished :-)
I just gave this one with two goals:
. Provide a very simple solution for less advanced users.
. Remind all that any image used as a pattern may be resized (if
locked, of course) an this may appear handy in many cases.

black on dark blue is abysmal.

Anyone know offhand if there's a request for more OS-compliant selection

Maybe this is really hard for Rev to do or it has been rated

It is not impossible. Actually, it is fairly easy, just a bit of work.
Make a number of background patterns and change the background pattern

You can, but don't have to, set the textColor of selected text to white.

Yes, there is a bug report for OS-complicant hilites. I believe it

selection hilites for lists?

Maybe this is really hard for Rev to do or it has been rated
as insignificant - but there are tons of apps out there
that do this. Hard for me to believe we still don't have this
capability without jumping through hoops and even then it
seems like it might look cheesy. Jeeez.

What happens if the person changes the size of the text?

I put together a lesson showing one way of doing alternating lines.
You can find it here:

This technique uses a handler that creates the image with the
alternating pattern on the fly. You could call this handler if the
user changes the text size.

Ok, mild cheese maybe;-)

I did this, line height of 18
Verdana 12
set the topmargin of fld bb to 3 (not 0, lost lots of cheese
right there)

image half white and half 241,245,250

Wow, great bit of instruction there.

Thanks Trevor!

Also thanks to Chipp for that awesome altFldScroller.
You must have spent lots of time on that - a great timesaver for us.

Re: itunes alternating lines

2008-10-25 Thread Richard Gaskin
It's not bad, but the selection hilite is still off - I just tossed
together a comparions of Rev, Finder, and iTunes side by side:

http://fourthworldlabs.com/shots/listhilite.jpg

I suppose one could walk through the hilitedLines and change the text
color of each selected line, but by the time we ad those steps to the
several steps needed to get the stripes at all we have to wonder if the
sum of all of our energy replicating all this is perhaps greater than
what it would take to make it a no-brainer in the engine once.

I'll kick in 20 bucks. Anyone else?
