ofbiz next release

2009-10-29 Thread Christopher Snow
There has been some talk on this forum about ofbiz following a ubuntu
style of release.

Ubuntu 9.10 has just been released - I guess we won't be having an ofbiz
9.10?

Many thanks,

Chris

Quotes with Tax

2009-10-29 Thread Gordon Messmer
When I create quotes in OFBiz, no tax is calculated. If the quote
recipient goes to the ecommerce site and adds the same items to a
shopping cart, tax is calculated.

I need quotes to calculate tax in the same way that the ecommerce site
does. Am I missing something obvious?

Have you read about the Django web publishing framework? It was created for
newspaper reporters that write well. I'm experimenting with installing it
for use along with OFBiz to create content + selling sites. It might be a
"good tool" that would allow separate credit for everyone's writing easily.
Just having good templates and a way to have credit for your work might inspire
more writing.

You are correct. If the product has been set up as having inventory,
then the promotion will stop working if no inventory is available. At
least that is how it works in the 4.x release.

I was trying that using promo action - 'Gift With Purchase'.

It works, if the free product is same as the buying product - like Buy

When I change the productID in Action to something else other than the
buying product, promo does not work for me. It does not do anything.

Any idea is really helpful.

Thank you.

I think it is a tool problem. I've come to believe, after 25+ years
of struggling with the best way to convey complex, multi-dimensional
ideas and concepts, that the "Wiki" format for documentation
presentation is just about useless for most users - especially new
users. The problem, as I see it is that a Wiki has only one
dimension - even the most carefully crafted Wiki has but one
dimension - that of the Wiki itself. A project such as OFBiz has
many dimensions, is constantly changing and has many target audiences.

Wikis seem to work best as repositories for small snippets of
information. Kind-of like a bunch of sticky notes positioned around
the office. The problem is that unless you were the author and
depositor of those sticky notes, others will only randomly happen
upon them. Even under the best search and organizational conditions,
finding the right set of sticky notes for the task at hand can be a
real challenge.

My solution has been to fall back on writing traditional
documentation organized and targeted at specific audiences. I don't
know if the DocBookWiki would provide a framework for building more
traditional (and I would argue useful) information sources as I
haven't looked at it. But now that you have given me the idea, I am
going to take a look.

Thanks Chris.

It seems that there is a lot of very good information on the

I've been looking at the DocBookWiki project and although it has

This is maybe related with r789506 changes, but these changes are in the trunk for months now, so I wonder why nobody reported an

Hi Mario:
I have experienced a similar problem (although, my emails are sent and received - probably since I'm calling the email services
myself through events I've written.)

Here's my issue: I get the same log file garbage spewed (as far back as version 809901) whenever I use any of the "sendMail"
services - although my emails are sent. (BTW, there is nothing wrong with my HTML - its all standard CSS & HTML). I'd like to know
what is going on here...do I need to configure something differently? I haven't had time to track this down, but it is really
annoying.

Re: how useful is the wiki? (and docbook integration)

2009-10-29 Thread Jacques Le Roux

Hi Ruth,

We could also organize things the same way than in a book in Confluence.
It has all we need for that, but as long as we don't coordinate our work any
kind of tool will not be useful regarding this issue
I still think it's an organisation problem. But how to organize the work of a free community is another question that any authoring
tool will not resolve intrinsically.
Also, I remember one of the things that made the community considers Confluence a good tool for our use was the possibility it
offers with permissions.

As I already said these projects use also Confluence (on Apache infrastructure)
http://servicemix.apache.org/home.html
http://geronimo.apache.org/

As you can see, there are a "bit more" organised than our Wiki. For instance, only the left part allows to embrace the project at a
glance. Something we definitively lack at http://docs.ofbiz.org/dashboard.action
I think we can do as good if we decide to do it. For the most part, this does not depend of the tool, or even the kind of tool you
use, it depends of the women/men who use them.
I don't know if it's a lack of community maturity or an inclination of our community, or more certainmy a trivial lack of
ressources, ie manpower... (Geronimo and ServiceMix have both big supporters...)

Jacques

From: "Ruth Hoffman"

Hi Jacques:
I think it is a tool problem. I've come to believe, after 25+ years of struggling with the best way to convey complex,
multi-dimensional ideas and concepts, that the "Wiki" format for documentation presentation is just about useless for most users -
especially new users. The problem, as I see it is that a Wiki has only one dimension - even the most carefully crafted Wiki has
but one dimension - that of the Wiki itself. A project such as OFBiz has many dimensions, is constantly changing and has many
target audiences.

Wikis seem to work best as repositories for small snippets of information. Kind-of like a bunch of sticky notes positioned around
the office. The problem is that unless you were the author and depositor of those sticky notes, others will only randomly happen
upon them. Even under the best search and organizational conditions, finding the right set of sticky notes for the task at hand
can be a real challenge.

My solution has been to fall back on writing traditional documentation organized and targeted at specific audiences. I don't know
if the DocBookWiki would provide a framework for building more traditional (and I would argue useful) information sources as I
haven't looked at it. But now that you have given me the idea, I am going to take a look.

Thanks Chris.
Just my 2 cents :-)

Hi Chris,

I sincerely think it's not a tool problem but simply lack of community

Also, despite the lack of organisation, lot efforts have already been put in the wiki and moving to another support, DocBookWiki
or whatever, will need to be very carefully done!

Last but not least, the commuity ambition, would be to use OFBiz itself to
support its own wiki. Ambitious isn'it ?

Licence : Confluence is Atlassian property (as Jira which uses OFBiz Entity Engine internally, BTW), in other word it's a
commercial product. But like some other companies, Atlassian offers graciously some licences. I believe, the one we currently use
was donated to Undersun (the consulting company David and Andy created when the begin to work on OFBiz) and is now used on an HWM
server. In the meantime (before using OFBize itself) we should move to Apacher servers since Atlassian has also offered a licence
to the ASF https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/INFRA-1877. Confluence is already used by other major ASF projects : Geronimo,
ServiceMix, to list a few...

I was wondering how useful people find the ofbiz wiki.

It seems that there is a lot of very good information on the wiki, but it just doesn't seem to be structured (structure is
precisely what new users need, along with product stability).

I've been looking at the DocBookWiki project and although it has a long way to go to be usable, it allows you to structure your
wiki like you would a book - see example on http://doc-book.sourceforge.net/books/. It also has links to generate different
formats from your wiki including docbook, html and pdf.

What is the license for the contents of the ofbiz wiki? Would I be allowed to use the content on the wiki and combine it into
another format?

Many thanks,

Chris

Re: how useful is the wiki? (and docbook integration)

2009-10-29 Thread Chris Snow
Ruth is right! Books are the way forward especially for new users. New
users need a structured path through learning new concepts (along with a
stable product to learn). Wiki's tend to be too chaotic and unstable!

Allow Payment Types depending on Billing Address

2009-10-29 Thread Sebastian Lukas
Hello everyone,

is it possible to allow different payment types depending on the billing
address, e.g. someone with a billing address in France can only pay per
credit card and someone with a billing address in the UK only per EFT. Is it
possible to make this kind of setup anywhere?

Cheers,

Sebastian

Re: how useful is the wiki? (and docbook integration)

2009-10-29 Thread Ruth Hoffman

Hi Jacques:
I think it is a tool problem. I've come to believe, after 25+ years of
struggling with the best way to convey complex, multi-dimensional ideas
and concepts, that the "Wiki" format for documentation presentation is
just about useless for most users - especially new users. The problem,
as I see it is that a Wiki has only one dimension - even the most
carefully crafted Wiki has but one dimension - that of the Wiki itself.
A project such as OFBiz has many dimensions, is constantly changing and
has many target audiences.

Wikis seem to work best as repositories for small snippets of
information. Kind-of like a bunch of sticky notes positioned around the
office. The problem is that unless you were the author and depositor of
those sticky notes, others will only randomly happen upon them. Even
under the best search and organizational conditions, finding the right
set of sticky notes for the task at hand can be a real challenge.

My solution has been to fall back on writing traditional documentation
organized and targeted at specific audiences. I don't know if the
DocBookWiki would provide a framework for building more traditional (and
I would argue useful) information sources as I haven't looked at it. But
now that you have given me the idea, I am going to take a look.

Thanks Chris.
Just my 2 cents :-)

I was wondering how useful people find the ofbiz wiki.

It seems that there is a lot of very good information on the wiki,
but it just doesn't seem to be structured (structure is precisely
what new users need, along with product stability).

I've been looking at the DocBookWiki project and although it has a
long way to go to be usable, it allows you to structure your wiki
like you would a book - see example on
http://doc-book.sourceforge.net/books/. It also has links to
generate different formats from your wiki including docbook, html and
pdf.

What is the license for the contents of the ofbiz wiki? Would I be
allowed to use the content on the wiki and combine it into another
format?

Many thanks,

Ah yes! For me (to be confirmed, because there are no licence headers there) like all in Apache OFBiz, it's ASL2 licenced.
In other words you can do what you want with it as long as you respect http://apache.org/licenses/LICENSE-2.0#redistribution

Best way to model/handle monthly subscriptions with useCounts

2009-10-29 Thread Marc Morin
We sell a number of DIGITAL_GOOD subscriptions for our services:

AIS-1 1 user monthly subscription to the platform
AIS-10 10 user ""
EMAIL-1 1 user email account
EMAIL-10 10 ""

etc...

This manages Subscriptions for the Party for each customer and re-generates a
new Order every month and that's all great.

We have a service that we associate with the ProductContent with
FULFILLMENT_EXTSYNC productContentTypeId to do the actual provisioning. We
track our uses by extending the SubscriptionActivity and associating it with
the Subscription via the SubscriptionFulfillmentPiece.

My question is how best to model the useCountLimit for the various products.
Seems like creating a virtual product for the base product and then either

1) create a variant for each consumption package, associate a different
ProductContent with the variant setting the useCountLimit appropriately then in
my service, can enforce that limit in the Subscription table.
2) create variant and put the limit in a product attribute and manage use count
there

Seems like #1 is a more desirable approach?

There doesn't appear to be any code that uses the useCountLimit anywhere. So,
it would appear like adding an eeca on SubscriptionFulfillmentPiece that will
limit the number of SubscriptionActivity records to a specific Subscription to
the useCountLimit (if not null), seems like the right way to go?

Marc

Sorry, but now I'm confused. I don't understand the implication of this

this is saying?

Re: negative amount in cancel order

2009-10-29 Thread Abdullah Shaikh
It is not related to any configuration but was a browser issue.

But still I couldn't get the business reason for it ? and also can we
display the amount as 0 in case of cancelled order in ecommerce order
history page, so that the customer doesn't get the impression that the card
is credited or something else.

Re: Relationship tab in Party Management

2009-10-29 Thread Pal Infocom Technologies

Hello Naveen

Relationship tab defines the relationship between two parties, whenever
party loggs in he will be able to view the parties belong to him. Like If a
Company group has number of employees, vendors etc; he can set their
relationship with Company Group, through this tab to access the information

As you have mentioned about the example of Test Person, Test person who will
be a employee to Party group A could be a customer with Part Group B so
while creating this party you have to set his role as employee after this
Test Person loggins, click at Relationship Tab. Here you will be presented
with a form named Add Other Party Relationship, where you can add as many as
relationships with other parties depending upon process of your
application. Following are the steps :

To Party Id : Test person id(it will appear automatically)

in the role of : Role of a Test Person with Party group A (for eg.
employee)

is A : Relation with Party Group B (for eg : Customer)

>From Party Id : Party Group Id

negative amount in cancel order

2009-10-29 Thread Abdullah Shaikh
When we cancel an order, the Amount that gets displayed in Order List page
is surrounded by (), that means its a negative value, but in one of my local
ofbiz instance it displays the negative sign (-) instead of the (), does its
related to some configuration ?

Also is there any business reason to only display the tax as negative amount
? why not the full amount as negative value ? can some one explain ?

Unable to start Lambda Probe

I deployed Lambda probe as a component in ofbiz application.
I used this link: http://bizlift.com/ofbiz/lambda_probe_for_ofbiz.html
When I start the ofbiz application following exception comes:
Cannot find class [org.jstripe.tomcat.probe.beans.TomcatUsersDaoBean] for
bean with name 'userDetailsService' defined in ServletContext resource
[/WEB-INF/spring-root-acegi.xml];
java.lang.ClassNotFoundException:
org.jstripe.tomcat.probe.beans.TomcatUsersDaoBean

Thanks
