OpenMeetings Needs Your Support

2014-12-12 Thread Daniel Ascher
Dear OpenMeetings User:

If you haven't already done so, we request that you take the time to
complete this survey http://goo.gl/forms/rfuMrwCRC4

. If you have already done so, thanks!

This is an open letter to the OpenMeetings Community from Daniel
Ascher, Joseph Karwat, and Maxim Solodovnik.

As active members of the OpenMeetings community we are asking for your
support to implement a broad initiative which focuses on transforming
OpenMeetings into a highly reliable and robust open-source video
conferencing platform. Like many users we have been frustrated by the pace
of development, the quality of documentation, issues surrounding
installation, upgrading to the next release, audio and video quality, and
reliability.

The goal of this initiative is to ensure the following happens within the
near future:

1) Maintenance and support for three (3) active demo instances hosted
by a reliable vendor such as Amazon Web Services and which includes, at
least, visual access to the Administrative Interface.

o *The current release*--Open to the public and perhaps limited by the
number of people allowed in a meeting.

o *The next release-* Open only to users that agree to help test,
committers, and commercial sponsors. The purpose of this environment is to
provide a controllable version for which QA testing as a community can be
accomplish

o *Sandbox* for committers to test new code. Open to Committers and
Commercial sponsors.

2) Organize the community into four groups:

o Users

o Committers

o Testers

o Commercial Sponsors (those who pay a very small monthly fee to gain
access and advertising exposure -- for example, $10 dollars/euros per
month)

3) Create a system so that donations to the OM Community can easily be
made to support the demo environments and to hire engineers to code
specific parts of the OM platform to ensure OM stays viable.

4) Set formal rules on deciding what features make it into the next
release and which plugins and operating systems are to be formally
supported.

5) Set formal rules on requirements for realizing a new version to
include:

o Clear and easy path to upgrade from the previous version

o Robust testing of all features and interfaces

o Capacity/Stress testing

6) Identify all organizations currently using OM with details about
their installation and a up-to-date contact person.

7) Ensure that OM is quickly transformed into a 100% HTML5 framework
and that all OpenLazlo code is removed.

We would like your suggestions on how to make OM better and ask that you
complete the OM user survey by clicking here
.
Each person who completes the survey will receive the results via email.

Thank-you for your support.

Re: questions about the OpenMeetings recordings management (via moodle)

2014-12-12 Thread Daniel Ascher
I like the idea of being able to provide a link to a recording, so that
someone could be given access to watch a recording even if they are not in
OM. If this is implemented it should be possible to password protect the
link as well.

Thanks.

The recordings are created in OM, and OM only knows if user is moderator or
not
Lecturer is external role :(

I guess more detailed description is required.
Maybe additional role need to be introduced to Om (and most probably to
SOAP method)

OpenMeetings 3.0.4, Plugin 1.7.2, list of OM activities in a course not working

2014-12-12 Thread Michael Wuttke
Hello.

there is an error with the om moodle plugin.

in Moodle 2.7.1. with OpenMeetings Server 3.0.4 and OpenMeetings Moodle
Plugin 1.7.2 the link that is supposed to list all OM activities in a
course (see attachment) leads to a blank page. Turning on DEVELOPER
debug output produces: Fatal error: Call to undefined function
get_record() in /var/www/moodle/mod/openmeetings/index.php on line 35
Call Stack: 0. 239064 1. {main}()
/var/www/moodle/mod/openmeetings/index.php:0

Thanks & Greatings,
Michael

Aw: Re: questions about the OpenMeetings recordings management (via moodle)

2014-12-12 Thread BBS Technik
Hi,
I think, it would be helpful to have public (linkable for all lecturers) and
private (see and linkable onli for the producer) recordings. This wold be the
same like with the conference rooms.
So all could have access to recordings like 'Tips and tricks with Openmeetings'
and other 'private' recordings could only be accessed by a special group.

Best regards

Re: questions about the OpenMeetings recordings management (via moodle)

2014-12-12 Thread Maxim Solodovnik
No
I mean: every user can possibly create recordings BUT Only Admin can access
to "Add new Openmeetings Activity to the course", so in case non-admin user
will create recording - it will be lost :(

About rename/delete we need to disscuss how this will be organised

in this case recordings will be available only to user who made it.
In case it will be user without admin priviledges - the recording will not
be available at all
is it OK?

Hi Maxim,

sorry but I am not sure where to put the delete functions for

plugins: one plugin for creating & using webconf rooms [1] and one
plugin for handling the recordings [2]. What do you think?

It's ok, we will just not use the external invites for our in-moodle
activities.

I am going to perform a rollback to 3.0.3 since apparently the moodle

this is a separate page without binding to the server openmeetings.
You can save page to you desktop and copy saved files to you server.
