FYI, if anyone needs the answer, here is what I did:

  ConfigHelper configHelper = new
ConfigHelper(application,request,response);
  ActionMapping mapping = configHelper.getMapping();
  String currentAction = mapping.getPath()+".do";

configHelperInterface should help you with iwther getMapping or 
getActionForward methods should help you-
