same hosts in cluster?

2013-04-27 Thread Jerry Jiang
Hi guys,

When I create a cluster in CS, should ensure all the hosts in the same
cluster are completely same, eg, same CPU speed, same arch, same vendor.

If I don't need live migration feature, should I also ensure they are same?

Thanks

Jerry

You can set the expunge interval in the global setting configuration so that
your VM gets removed from the cloud database after X seconds however the
minimum interval which that global setting respects is 600 sec .

Hi Deepak,

I recall you asking the same question on March 20th. The answers you received
back then are still valid - you will need to write a script using the APIs to
create such a workflow.

You would certainly be able to provision one host per cluster and have many
such one host clusters.

Yes for XenServer or XCP, they require heterogeneous hosts in the cluster
and won't add "another" host.

Nikita - This would be a good feature to have. Would you mind filing an
enhancement for the same in JIRA please ?
For now you can do any one of the following
1. live migrate the vms to the other host if you want to achieve balancing
or
2. give hostid in the deployvm command if you want to send them to
particular hosts or
3. Use host tags to achieve balancing as well. Choose half the vms with
one tag and other with other tag and they will get to the host with the
same tag only.

Static NAT issue

2013-04-27 Thread Warren Nicholson
Running Cloudstack 3.02, and Xenserver 6.02 hypervisors.

My Centos 6.4 instances can't ping the internet.

I configured a static NAT and attached it to my VMs.

All firewalls are disabled. I can ping both sides of the

Router from my VMs.

My VMs are getting the proper IP from the Router,

no matter which hypervisor I run it on, so this means

my network switch is configured properly to handle

the DCHP for the tagged VLAN's.

I can ssh into the router and ping the internet and I

can ping all of the guest VMs.

I can ping the public side of the router from my LAN,

and the router can ping everything on my LAN.

It appears, the Cloudstack Router ain't routing...

Suggestions?

Warren

Re: Static NAT issue

2013-04-27 Thread Ahmad Emneina
This is pretty odd behavior. I suggest you run tcpdump on various parts of
the flow:
1. within the virtual router. there should be two interfaces to focus on...
public and guest.
2. within the guest
3. on the hypervisor... you'll need to figure out the bridge the inside
network where guest to vr traffic is being passed.

see where the data fails to pass. let us know where it gets hung up.

Hostname for VMs created from template

2013-04-27 Thread Wei Leong
Hi everyone,

I noticed that for the default Centos 5.5 template that came with Cloudstack,
the hostnames of VMs created using the template is the Display Name given to it
during creation. However, VMs created from my own template (Centos 6.4) still
uses the hostname that came with the template. Is it possible to have the
hostname changed during the creation of a VM like the default template?

Thanks,
Wei

Re: Hostname for VMs created from template

2013-04-27 Thread Ahmad Emneina
the default behavior for a dhcp client is to get its hostname via dhcp...
things to verify /var/lib/dhclient/dhclient-*ifname*.leases (to see if the
dhcp server is passing the host-name) file as well as /etc/hostname and
/etc/hosts. Its possible they inherited these values from the vm the
template was created from... and would likely need to be sanitized and
re-template-ized :)

assuming you deployed to an isolated network you created, you will need to
setup a NAT rule. either using the source nat address or acquiring a new
one, you will need to create a firewall rule, then the NAT rule.

Do this by navigating to the network section of your UI, and drill down to
the network the vm was deployed to. hope this helps.

pretty much.

What is that your use-case of using ELB?

Our stuff eventually gets deployed on AWS so we want to try and simulate
the ELB function as well as autoscale groups.

At present in basic zone network services EIP & ELB are only available

Looking at NetScaler site, does it matter which of the platforms I go for
(hw vs virtual) or how about the edition. Is standard ok? Are there some
how-tos on setting it up with CS? The CS install and admin guides are a
bit light in that section.

[SWAMY] You can use anything (virtual vor hw). You need to have the license
that enables LB feature on NetScaler.

Ok so when setting up my zone I should select:
"DefaultSharedNetworkOffering". Can I later switch it to
"DefaultSharedNetScalerEIPandELBNetworkOffering"?

[SWAMY] cloudstack doesnt support that switching in basic zone.

I think I am going to stick with bridge initially because I read somewhere
that XS6.0.2 only supports 2 NIC bonds. I'm assuming that in bridge mode
it should support more since it is the native linux bonding and I know it
support several NICs per bond.

Not sure if I got all that, but I'll start with single bond for guest,
management and secondary traffic and have a separate bond for the NFS
primary traffic. I'll use the following IP ranges:
192.168.10.10-29: Reserved for host bond0 IPs.
192.168.10.30-59: CS Reserved System VMs
192.168.10.100-249: CS Guest Range.
Does that seem reasonable? I have 6 Hosts for now.

But downside of advanced zone is you will have to deal with VLAN's.

[SWAMY] there is another range that you should worry here is : public IP range.
