[4.3-rc5] Unable to create virtual router (JSON unable to be deserialized)

2014-02-14 Thread Tanner Danzey
Hello all, I've decided to roll 4.3 since it appears to fix some issues
regarding KVM & S3 and snapshots. I've got everything set up properly up
until the point where I am going to actually create an instance, but the
instance creation hangs because the router VM will not start. Here's the
cloudstack agent log on the hypervisor:

http://pastebin.com/F2BqsjBV

Is this a programming error that I need to fill out a bug for or is there
something I can do to fix it myself?

RE: I/O Throttling in CS 4.2.1

2014-02-14 Thread Geoff Higginbottom
I would say we need the Compute Offering to define the disk performance, and
take only the size from the disk offering.

Might be simpler to have a set of Disk Offerings specifically for this purpose,
or use a Custom type offering where only the size is chosen.

Ok, if you put it this way it makes total sense.

Indeed, if you would for example want to define the I/O limits based on the
type of the offering this is not possible if you would allow people to use
templates and ISOs at the same time.

For example: We have lower I/O rates for our 2 cheaper offerings. Now if you
install from ISO you get a different I/O limit than you would if you install
from template.

I will have a look. Thinking more and more about this I’m not sure there is
even a proper way to do this. Every way has his up and downsides as long as you
are mixing templates with ISO installs.

The only way I could think (now) of is that the template automatically receives
the closest disk offering (based on size), but doesn't sound very reliable
either.

Lennert ,

I would imagine it's because VMs created from Templates are using the settings
in the Compute Offering for the Root Volume, but VMs created from ISOs are
using the settings in the Disk Offering chosen for the Root Volume.

It is not very obvious which one should apply, and also confusing from a user
perspective.

I've not checked, but suggest you take a look and see if there are any bugs or
feature request already logged, and if not get one logged.

Hi All,

We started using I/O Throttling a few days ago on our platform to fairly share
the available disk writes between our customers and create a more reliable disk

It seems to work fine, expect i noticed that when you create a VM from ISO the
I/O limit is not applied.

We define the I/O write limit in the (VM)service offering, not the disk
offering. It seems to work fine for templates, but for ISO installs it seems
necessary to also define a limit in the disk offering.

I would expect that when you define a limit in the (VM) service offering it's
applied to all underlaying disks. And because templates officially don't have a
disk offering, it's needed to apply in the service offering. We are now
defining it twice, but it's not ideal.

Is this normal behavior or a bug? Thanks!

Cloudstack API list all VMs

2014-02-14 Thread Rafael Weingartner
Hi folks,
I was trying to find a way to list all VMs that are running on CS. I looked
the API Doc and it seemed to have a way to do that using isrecursive=true,
domainid=1 and listall=true. However, it does not list the VMs that are
assigned into a project.
Would there be any way to list all VMs including the one that were created
in project?

BTW: I was using the Admin account to run these commands.
