Re: unable to deploy ubuntu as guest vm

2014-02-26 Thread Kirk Kosinski
Hi, installing Ubuntu from ISO is not supported on XenServer [1].
Instead, perform a network installation of Ubuntu on a standalone
XenServer, copy the VHD to a web server, and import it as a template to
CloudStack.

I am not able to ping to corporate DNS or Google DNS from system VMs.
Also not able to ping gateway from system VMs.

RE: Unable to deploy vm

2014-02-26 Thread Sailaja Mada
Hi,

Root cause and workaround are listed in the bug details @
https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/CLOUDSTACK-1403?focusedCommentId=13588714&page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel#comment-13588714

Analysis & Root cause:-
Due to connection issues the first attempt to download template from secondary
storage failed while importing OVA template.
This left a stale template object in the datacenter. Next attempt to download
the template has returned success as only existance of template with the
specific uuid is checked. No more attempts made to setup the template again.
The answer shows template size as 0. Atleast at this point the corruption in
template should have been detected.
The answer from logs is -
[{"storage.PrimaryStorageDownloadAnswer":{"installPath":"e372770297f73702b26a7898d041f3f8","templateSize":0,"result":true,"wait":0}}]
 }
Any subsequent VM deployment would look to create a volume from this template
which fails as expected. After a successful import of OVA on primary storage, a
snapshot is taken to create a base snapshot from which volumes are created. But
due to IOException encountered while uploading the file to URL this snapshot
attempt was not made.

Fix:-
Handle IOException while uploading template to primary storage URL and cleanup
stale template. Working on unit testing now.

We have work around for this issue. Delete the stale template that was created
in datacenter due to failed PrimaryStorageDownloadCommand. Subsequently a
template would be setup again freshly.

Thanks,
Sailaja.M

If you don't have permissions to modify the db. Remove and add the host again.
Else you can stop the mgmt. server change the password for the host in db and
start again.

Thanks

Yes - unless you compiled packages yourself. You need a 64-bit arch
distribution of linux for the packages supplied by the community.

Don't start tomcat using 'service tomcat6 (re)start' ensure that it's
stopped (service tomcat6 stop) and then use 'service
cloudstack-management start'

I do not know how to start it, because "service tomcat6 restart" restart the

Can you be more specific about "necessary settings"?
did you run /cloudstack-setup-database/ and /cloudstack-setup-management/ ?
Is your service running?
What /netstat -alnp |grep 8080/ says?
What do you see in //var/log/cloudstack/management/management-server.log/ ?

Secondary Storage Not working properly (CS 4.2.1 CentOS 6.5 64bits)

2014-02-26 Thread Jardel Marceno
I'm really having a hard time puting a CS enviroment to work (management
server, DB and host [kvm] on the same machine).

I installed and evething appears to be working just fine and as expected,
except for the secondary storage.

As an impact I can't use create a new VM, as ISO and Templates are not
showing up when I try to run the wizard and they get a "host time out
message" when I try to use add then.

I can't really understand whats is going on:

1. NFS is mounting:

Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/sda3 1.4T 2.2G 1.3T 1% /
tmpfs 7.7G 0 7.7G 0% /dev/shm
/dev/sda1 504M 43M 436M 9% /boot
/dev/sdb1 1.4T 2.5G 1.3T 1% /mnt/disk1
127.0.0.1:/mnt/disk1/exports/secondary 1.4T 2.5G 1.3T 1%
/var/cloudstack/mnt/secStorage/12586151-8de7-34fe-bdf5-966fbfa71853

2. Service VM's are getting a hard time starting (machine is empty and have
8 cores and 16GB RAM, so it can't be resources):

If you don't have permissions to modify the db. Remove and add the host again.
Else you can stop the mgmt. server change the password for the host in db and
start again.

Thanks

Hi Sailaja,

Thanks for replay,

I am always running Management server under root.
Do I need to delete stale systemvm.iso and try it?

Hi,

This seems similar to the bug @
https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/CLOUDSTACK-3604 . It is root caused to
permissions set on the folder.

Can you please check the permissions set on the secondary storage folder .

Thanks,
