Re: vmware vlan port groups

2014-04-30 Thread ilya musayev
I’ve been asking about this as well asking if cloudstack should clean up
after it creates a tiny bit of mess. i got some explanation as to why it
does do it.. personally i think it should. either way i created a script i
use on VMA that cleans up if i need to recreate the environment.

During the course of normal use, CS leaves behind vlan port groups. Is there

Re: Trouble with adding network services

2014-04-30 Thread Matthew Midgett
My problem is that I can not see my actual physical nic that is
connected to the public wiring when I go to add a new "guest" network.
Why is this? The physical nic for public access is working because I can
dowload templates and your the console proxy. I just can't figure out
why I can't see it. I'm trying now adding new network services with the
cloud-public tags hoping that it will make the public address show up
while adding a "guest network"

Matthew,

What you want to achieve is very possible, it's just the terms used can be a
little confusing.

I believe you want to create a new network which will assign 'public' IPs
directly to Guest VMs. In CloudStack, the 'Public' network is only used by
System VMs and Virtual Routers so you have to create a new Guest Network which
used a new Public IP Address Range and allow Guest VMs to use it via a Shared
Network.

What you need to do is create a new 'shared' network, which will in fact be a
'guest' network, but the Virtual Router will only provide DHCP, DNS, and
UserData services, and will not act as an actual Router. Routing will be
provided by a physical Router/L3 Switch.

1. Allocate a new IP range and VLAN ID on your network infrastructure which
will pass Internet Live 'public' IPs down to the HyperVisors is a similar way
the CloudStack Public Traffic is handled.
2. Identify which CloudStack Physical Network this VLAN is mapped to, this
will be needed in step 5
3. When creating the new Network, set the scope to either 'All' (every user in
the Zone) or a speciic Account or Domain (I'm guessing you want to use the All
option)
4. Ensure you have chosen the Network Offering of 'Offering for Shared
Networks'
5. Ensure you chose the 'Physical Network' which your new IP range is mapped to
6. Enter the VLAN ID used in step 1
7. Enter the appropriate IP information in the Network Offering, note the IPv4
Gateway will be the IP of the Physical Router/L3 Switch which is terminating
the new Public IP Range

Subject: Trouble with adding network services

OK, I admit that I am lost and do not know what the procedure is to creating a
network service.

I would like to have a public address assigned to my VM's using CS4.3 and
xenserver. I don't need a guest network on this first /28

Can someone tell me the required steps? I've tried and had no luck.
Maybe I'm making this too hard and it should be easy.

I click on Network > Add Guest network

I understand all the options there but the main problem is that on physical
interfaces is only lists one of my guest nic's and not my public one. What do
need to setup so I can select the public nic and then continue with the rest of
the fields as needed.

Re: failed to start virtual router

2014-04-30 Thread Ian Young
I read this article about upgrading the system VMs:

https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/CLOUDSTACK/CloudStack+4.2+(KVM)+System+Vm+Upgrade

However, there's just an empty set in the template_host_ref table. Is this
no longer used in 4.3?

I've tried upgrading to 4.3 again. After poking around some more in the

downloaded. I think this is why the virtual router was unable to

I know this is because the network bridge is no longer set up
 correctly.
I used to have a cloud0 and a cloudbr0 interface. Now I only
 have
 cloudbr0. I haven't changed my network configuration. Somehow it's
 been
changed by CloudStack during the upgrade/downgrade. This is getting
 worse
and worse the more I try to recover my data. Is there any way to
 back
 up
the instances' volumes via the command line? I can't tell which is
 which
because the filenames are all hashes. I really need to get these
 instances
up and running--there are several months worth of work at stake
 here.

Re: Cloudstack 4.3 instances can't access outside world

2014-04-30 Thread Evan McGee
+1 on this — it’s a bit surprising that such a major regression made it into
4.3 final, as it appears any installation with traffic labeling will be
affected.

Should this conversation be moved to d...@cloudstack.apache.org?

Yes, I replaced the new files with the rpmsave ones, which allowed the
agent to start. However, most of the functions in the management console
fail.

   I
just noticed systemvm-kvm-4.3 is stuck at 27% downloaded. It must have
been interrupted during the upgrade to 4.3. At the moment I've rolled
 back
to 4.2.1 with a somewhat usable management interface, although the
 system
VMs won't start. I suspect there is something in the database that is
causing it to try to use the 4.3 template. How can I delete the
 template
and make sure the management server is using the older one?

Do you have the file db.properties.rpmsave on management server and
agent.properties.rpmsave on agents? If so, and the date is correct, you
can use it rather than db.properties and agent.properties.

And then restart management and agent services.

Re: failed to start virtual router

2014-04-30 Thread stevenliang

I think you had backed up database, when you upgraded.
When you downgraded CS, you also need to restore DB.

something else? I'm using KVM.

I know this is because the network bridge is no longer set up correctly.
  I used to have a cloud0 and a cloudbr0 interface. Now I only have
cloudbr0. I haven't changed my network configuration. Somehow it's been
changed by CloudStack during the upgrade/downgrade. This is getting worse
and worse the more I try to recover my data. Is there any way to back up
the instances' volumes via the command line? I can't tell which is which

up and running--there are several months worth of work at stake here.

Hi Jon

I run the CloudStack European User Group.

As Sebastien said, we run a group on linkedin which acts as our "membership
database"

I organise quarterly meetings in London: we usually get about 40 people with a
variety of interesting talks.

It would be great to see you come along. The next meeting will be in June
(venue TBC). If you join the linkedin group, you'll get a notification.

Kind Regards

Hi Marty,

Thanks for the reply. It doesn’t really get to the management server since it’s
failing before that.

I’ve since gone through the code and figured out that the current
implementation requires that the [manifest] parameter (according to the ec2
spec) is set and is used as the URL. So I’ll be changing that for us to make
this possible (i.e. to create register a snapshot without having a URL to it).
I’ve also added the ability to register an ISO image with ec2-register. I can
commit these changes, when done, to the master branch if anyone is interested.

Cheers,

any luck you can go through it again and make a pr for the appropriate changes ?

Hi Yesid,

Yes, you can by accountid (=ID value for an account in the UI) and
account(=account name in the UI). Here some examples for Traffic Sent by
account:

AccountID:
http://
:8096/client/api?command=listUsageRecords&startdate=2014-01-01&enddate=2014-04-25&type=4&accountid=337cd764-6ee9-47c8-90fa-1deeccb920d8

Account:
http://
:8096/client/api?command=listUsageRecords&startdate=2014-01-01&enddate=2014-04-25&type=4&account=batman

Hi Yesid,

The only place where you can find Network Traffic Sent in the UI is for each
VM, by looking at the Network Write value under the 'Instances>Statistics' tab. You will need to total up all these values to get the
overall figure.

Alternatively you can use the listUsageRecords API to fetch all the Network
Bytes Sent usage type records for a specific date range. This will provide an
XML response and the tag will give you the bytes sent. Add these up
to get the overall total bytes sent. For example:

An unauthenticated API request:

http://:8096/client/api?command=listUsageRecords&startdate=2014-01-01&enddate=2014-04-25&type=4

It works with 4.3 but you need to patch it manually, proper support is
coming in v4.4.

2014-04-30 Thread Wido den Hollander

Since CloudStack 4.0 Primary Storage using Ceph's RBD is supported.

I'd recommend at least 4.2, but when 4.3.1 comes out there are some
fixes which fix some small bugs.

Stability wise it's just fine since that is all handled by KVM/Qemu and
librbd.

I made some improvements in deployment times, those will go into 4.4

For now I could recommend running with Ubuntu since that has the best
Ceph support. 14.04 (the new LTS) has all you need.

Cloudstack 3.0.2 can't unmount SR from Xenserver after create template or snapshot

2014-04-30 Thread jerry
We use cloudstack 3.0.2, when we create snapshot or ceate template,Cloudstack
will automatic mount a user dir on secondary storage to xenserver as a SR
,after we finished snapshot or Templaate , Usually Cloudstack will automatic
unmount this SR from Xenserver ,But some time we found Cloudstack didn't
unmount SR on Xenserver ,in this case , Can we direct forget or deattach this
SR from xenserver ?
