Subject: Accelerite's acquisition of CloudPlatform - the Accelerite viewpoint

Hello,

This is a wide distribution. I hesitate to spam, but I do want to introduce
Accelerite to the Apache CloudStack community - who we are, how we do things,
and what is our thinking on CloudStack. If you missed the announcement about
Accelerite acquiring CloudPlatform from Citrix, you can find it
here.

My name is Samir Agarwal, and I manage products at Accelerite. Our company
strives to be a preferred, premier provider of IT solutions to companies around
the globe. The company has three key business lines - Mobility and endpoint
management, IoT, and Cloud Solutions. This last business line is where our
acquisition of CloudPlatform fits, and complements our already existing
self-service and disaster recovery & business continuity solutions.

In addition to building products from scratch, Accelerite regularly acquires
assets from other companies - much like CloudPlatform from Citrix. Almost
always the first thing we do is bring a strong focus on support to make sure
our customers' needs are being met. In parallel we look to significantly
increase our investments in R&D. We want to make sure our existing and future
customers see our commitment to the product, and an exciting roadmap to go with
it. This is exactly what we are planning to do with CloudPlatform as well.

So, what does all of this mean for CloudStack? I can tell you that our
commitment to CloudStack is rock solid. You should fully expect to see us
contributing to the CloudStack code base, and owning even more items on the
roadmap. We will be in meetups and CloudStack events to further promote the
cause of CloudStack and CloudPlatform. To say we are thrilled about the
possibilities doesn't do justice to our level of excitement. My colleague,
Lianghwa Jou, and I met Ilya H, John K and Animesh C - all members of the
CloudStack PMC - the other day over lunch. We learned a great deal from them,
and left with a resolve to further engage with the community, and explore how
we can make meaningful contributions. We are firmly of the belief that the
success of CloudPlatform lies in the success of CloudStack. Put more plainly,
without CloudStack, there is no CloudPlatform!

We look forward to an exciting relationship with the CloudStack community.

Samir

Subject: vm doesn't hava ip address

Hi, all
My cloudstack version is 4.6 and I have created a vm, in UI the ip address is
192.168.85.200, but when I used vnc to login in the vm there is only one
address 127.0.0.1 when I input "ifconfig". I would like to access Internet from
this vm, what should I do?
Thank you.

Hi folks,

As some of you might have guessed I am changing $dayjob.

This is an exciting time for me, but it also means that I will become less
involved with CloudStack. ( I said *less* involved, did not say I was going to
disappear). I have informed the PMC and offered to stop my VP role ahead of the
March deadline. As you know we have a one-year rotation for the VP role.
However if the PMC does not see a problem with it I will gladly continue until
March.

I will keep this brief but I wanted to let you know so that you don’t wonder
why my involvement in recent releases and votes has decreased.

It is an exciting time for CloudStack as well, with ever greater releases ( in
large part to Remi, Wilder and a few others), a strong proposal to offer LTS
and the commitment from Accelerite.

Change is good, challenges are opportunities says Sensei Wu from Ninjago :)

PS:
If you wonder, I am launching my own container startup called Skippbox. I will

and kubernetes I sure could use some help ( https://github.com/skippbox ,

Hi!

After upgrading from 4.5.2 to 4.6.2, I also face this issue. We use both KVM

Hello guys,

I've just upgraded to 4.6.2 and have similar issues with three virtual routers
out of 22 in total. They are all failing exactly the same way as described here.

Has anyone found a permanent workaround for this issue?

Thanks

How to set VirtualRouter hypervisor type?

2016-01-27 Thread Martin Emrich
Hi!

We have both KVM and XenServer hosts in the same CloudStack Zone/Pod. How can I
specify the hypervisor to use for the SystemVMs?
According to the log files, the hypervisor is decided before host tags are
evaluated, so using host tags is not enough...

Thanks

Martin

RE: Failed to create templatecreate ( CloudStack 4.5.2 VMware 5.5 )

2016-01-27 Thread Somesh Naidu
> Please see the full log

But these logs are output of grep. I'd be better off with the logs.

It does appear that there is a possibility that the stack trace for this NPE
may not be available as I see "Message: null" meaning the exception stack
wasn't propagated to the layer where the exception is being logged in which
case it will be very difficult to identify the cause of the NPE.

The first thing I would do is to look at SSVM for logs related to job-50 / seq
2-6133058267548483884 (assuming host id 2 is SSVM) to see if I can find out
more details. The second thing I would do is look at the relevant DB entries in
the tables volumes and image_store to see if there is any field missing any
data.

FYI the NPE is logged within this method -
com.cloud.storage.resource.VmwareStorageProcessor.createTemplateFromVolume(CopyCommand).
Someone more familiar with that piece of code may be able to provide more
insight.

Somesh

We will need more logs (at least the entire stack trace) to be able to

It seems there are failures in the script execution in VR 'command not
found'. Ssh to VR and run the script on VR to correct it. Look at the host
SMlog for the script (ipsectunnel.sh) arguments.

Re: vm doesn't hava ip address

2016-01-27 Thread ilya
several possibilities,

usually implies router vm could not reach the guest vm - due to various
reasons, i would check the network and trunking.

secondly it could also relate to networking on the linux os, if you do
"ifconfig -a", do you see eth1 perhaps?

1) assuming its rhel based os, you may want to confirm ifcfg-eth0 does
not have UUID or MAC hardcoded
2) udev rules for network stack could also map the MAC to specific eth
interface. its is safe to delete 70-net-persistent.rules file from
/ec/udev.d/

if 1 and 2 are true for you, fix the issue and reboot

try dhclient -r && dhclient ethX

otherwise, we are missing context here - you told us nothing about your
setup, hence i cant be any more helpful

Cannot see second storage, might be iptable issue inside Secondary Storage VM?

2016-01-27 Thread Rui Mao
Hi,

Initially after I installed a very basic CloudStack 4.7 setup with CentOS 7.
I could see the secondary storage with capacity. But after a while which I'm
not sure how long, I couldn't see it. I tried ssh into the Secondary Storage
VM, used ssvm_check.sh to check status, and found DNS resolve was not

more the list was increasing with time.

I'm not sure if this is the root cause of secondary storage failure, but it
definitely not right.

2016-01-27 Thread Rui Mao
More finding, the Console Proxy VM cannot resolve DNS too, but has no the
iptable issue. The host can do DNS, seems a firewall issue in the host which
blocked DNS traffic from VMs.

Storage VM?

Hi,

Initially after I installed a very basic CloudStack 4.7 setup with CentOS 7.
I could see the secondary storage with capacity. But after a while which I'm
not sure how long, I couldn't see it. I tried ssh into the Secondary Storage
VM, used ssvm_check.sh to check status, and found DNS resolve was not
working. I also checked iptable rules, and it seemed not right here. And
more the list was increasing with time.

I'm not sure if this is the root cause of secondary storage failure, but it
definitely not right.

Thank you ilya.
My question has been solved. The reason is in my vm, dhcp client not been
configured.

several possibilities,

usually implies router vm could not reach the guest vm - due to various
reasons, i would check the network and trunking.

secondly it could also relate to networking on the linux os, if you do
"ifconfig -a", do you see eth1 perhaps?

1) assuming its rhel based os, you may want to confirm ifcfg-eth0 does
not have UUID or MAC hardcoded
2) udev rules for network stack could also map the MAC to specific eth
interface. its is safe to delete 70-net-persistent.rules file from
/ec/udev.d/

if 1 and 2 are true for you, fix the issue and reboot

try dhclient -r && dhclient ethX

otherwise, we are missing context here - you told us nothing about your
setup, hence i cant be any more helpful

4.7.1 also affected.
All versions use 4.6 templates.

P.S.: would it be usefull to move discussion to devs list. Looks like it's
pretty big issue.

Hi!

After upgrading from 4.5.2 to 4.6.2, I also face this issue. We use both
KVM and XenServer. Any stable workaround for this?

Thanx

Hello guys,

I've just upgraded to 4.6.2 and have similar issues with three virtual
routers out of 22 in total. They are all failing exactly the same way as
described here.

Has anyone found a permanent workaround for this issue?

Thanks

Andrei

Does anybody else experiemce problems due to (very) slow deployment of
VRs?

After faking the particular VRu in sql, I tried to restart that
network, and it always fails. To me it looks like the
update_config.py - which takes almost all cpu ressources - runs way
longer any watchdog will accept.

I'm able to mitigate that by very nasty workarounds:
a) start the router
b) wait until its provisioned
c) restart cloudstack-management
d)  update vm_instance
set state='Running',
power_state='PowerOn' where name = 'r-XXX-VM';
e) once: update domain_router
set template_version="Cloudstack Release 4.6.0 Wed Nov 4 08:22:47 UTC
2015", scripts_version="546c9e7ac38e0aa16ecc498899dac8e2"
where id=XXX;
f) wait until update_config.py finishes (for me thats about 15
minutes)

Since I expect the need for VR restarts in the future, this behaviour
is somehow unsatisfying. It needs a lot of errorprone intervention.

I'm quite unsure if it's introduced with the update or the particular
VR just has simply not been restarted after getting configured with
lots of ips and rules.

So far I didn't find any timeout value in the global settings.
Temporarily setting network.router.EnableServiceMonitoring to false

Any help, how to mitigate that nasty timeout would be really

Re: AW: upgrading 4.5.2 -> 4.6.0 virtualrouter upgrade timeout

2016-01-27 Thread Remi Bergsma
The routers from Daniel work when we bumped global setting
router.aggregation.command.each.timeout to 20 or higher. You may need to
upgrade to 4.7.1 for that to work, but that's a good thing to do anyway because
it has a load of fixes over 4.6. The upgrade is quick and painless.

For the record, it doesn't have to do with the template. Be happy we reuse it,
makes upgrading way easier.

There are 5 hosts of XenServer.
And the host of this VM is slave host.

I tried to operate this command on the host of this VM.
It said the following

So, I tried to operate the same command on the master host.
It said the following

~~~
