[ClusterLabs] Fwd: [lca-announce] linux.conf.au 2020 - Call for Sessions and Miniconfs final week!

2019-07-28 Thread Tim Serong
Hi Folks,

Just a reminder, there's approximately a day left to submit talks for
this most excellent conference. As usual the conference theme is
intended to inspire, not to restrict; talks on any topic in the world of
free and open source software, hardware, etc. are most welcome.

Regards,

Tim

Hello everyone,

We are now in the final week for submissions to the linux.conf.au 2020
Call for Sessions and Miniconfs. If you have not yet submitted your
proposal, now is the time to start working on it to get it in by the
cutoff, Sunday 28 July Anywhere on Earth (AoE)

As you know, our theme for linux.conf.au 2020 is "Who's Watching",
focusing on security, privacy and ethics. As big data and IoT-connected
devices become more pervasive, it's no surprise that we're more
concerned about privacy and security than ever before.

Call for Sessions

Would you like to talk in the main conference of linux.conf.au 2020?
The main conference runs from Wednesday to Friday, with multiple streams
catering for a wide range of interest areas.
We welcome you to submit a session
(https://linux.conf.au/programme/sessions/) proposal for either a talk
or tutorial now.

Call for Miniconfs

Miniconfs are dedicated day-long streams focusing on single topics,
creating a more immersive experience for delegates than a session.
Miniconfs are run on the first two days of the conference before the
main conference commences on Wednesday.
If you would like to organise a miniconf
(https://linux.conf.au/programme/miniconfs/) at linux.conf.au, we want
to hear from you.

If you have something to share about security, privacy or anything open
source make sure you submit a proposal for a talk or miniconf.
You can find out how to submit your session or miniconf proposals at
https://linux.conf.au/programme/proposals/.

If you have any questions, please contact us via email at
cont...@lca2020.linux.org.au.

The session selection committee is looking forward to reviewing your
proposals!

Kind regards,
LCA 2020 team

[ClusterLabs] Fwd: [lca-announce] linux.conf.au 2021 - Call for Sessions and Miniconfs Open

2020-10-21 Thread Tim Serong
The best F/OSS conference in the southern hemisphere is back again,
virtualized, January 23-25. The CFP is open until November 6. Submit
early, submit often! ;-)

We're excited! The linux.conf.au 2021 Call for Sessions and Call for
Miniconfs are now open. They will stay open until 6th November 2020
Anywhere on Earth
(AoE) (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anywhere_on_Earth). This is only 3
weeks away - so don't delay, get your talks in early!

Our theme is "So what's next?".

We all know we're living through unprecedented change and uncertain
times. How can open source play a role in creating, helping and adapting
to this ongoing change? What new developments in software and coding can
we look forward to in 2021 and beyond?

If you have ideas or developments you'd like to share with the open
source community at linux.conf.au, we'd love to hear from you.

Call for Sessions

The main conference runs on Sunday 24 and Monday 25 January, with
multiple streams catering for a wide range of interest areas.

We invite you to submit a session
(https://linux.conf.au/programme/sessions/) proposal for a talk. Talks
are generally 35-45 minute presentations on a single topic presented in
lecture format.

Call for Miniconfs

Miniconfs are dedicated day-long streams focusing on single topics,
creating a more immersive experience for delegates than a session. We
encourage you to get creative with how you could deliver your Miniconf
virtually!

Running a Miniconf (https://linux.conf.au/programme/miniconfs/) is a
great way to gain experience, provide exposure for your project or
topic, and raise your professional profile. They're a crowd favourite
and an awesome way to kick off the conference.

Miniconfs will run on Saturday 23 January, before the main conference
commences on Sunday.

No need to book flights or hotels

Don't forget: the conference will be a fully online, virtual experience.
This means our speakers will be beaming in from their own homes or
workplaces. The organising team will be able to help speakers with their
tech set-up. Each accepted presenter will have a tech check prior to the
event to smooth out any difficulties and there will be an option to
pre-record presentations.

Have we piqued your interest?

You can find out how to submit your session or miniconf proposals at
https://linux.conf.au/programme/proposals/.

If you have any other questions you can contact us via email at
cont...@lca2021.linux.org.au.

Timeline

16th October: Call for sessions opens
6th November: Call for sessions closes
January 23 2021: Miniconfs!
January 24-25 2021: Main conference presentations

Tickets will go on sale in the coming weeks. We'll keep you posted.

We're looking forward to reading your submissions.

[ClusterLabs] CFP: linux.conf.au 2017 (Hobart, Tasmania, Australia)

2016-07-26 Thread Tim Serong
Hi All,

Some of you will no doubt have already seen this, but for those who
haven't, the CFP for linux.conf.au 2017 (January 16-20 in Hobart,
Tasmania, Australia) is currently open:

  https://linux.conf.au/proposals/

This is one of the best F/OSS conferences in the world, and is being
held in one of the most beautiful places in the world (although I might
be slightly biased on the latter point, on account of living in Tasmania).

The CFP will remain open until August 5 (i.e. only ten more days!)
Please everyone go submit a talk, or at least plan to attend. It's
going to be excellent :)

Cheers,

Tim

== ABOUT LINUX.CONF.AU ==

linux.conf.au is a conference where people gather to learn about the
entire world of Free and Open Source Software, directly from the people
who shape the projects and topics that they’re presenting on.

Our aim is to create a deeply technical conference made up of industry
leaders and experts on a wide range of subjects.

linux.conf.au welcomes submissions first-time and seasoned speakers from
all free and open technology communities and all walks of life. We
respect and encourage diversity at our conference.

== CONFERENCE THEME ==

The theme for linux.conf.au 2018 is “A Little Bit Of History Repeating”.
Building on last year’s theme of “The Future of Open Source”, we intend
to examine the future through the lens of the past.

For some suggestions to get you started with your proposal ideas please
visit the linux.conf.au website.

== PROPOSAL TYPES ==

We’re accepting submissions for three different types of proposal:

* Presentation (45 minutes): These are generally presented in lecture
format and form the bulk of the available conference slots.
* Tutorial (100 minutes): These are generally presented in a classroom
format. They should be interactive or hands-on in nature. Tutorials are
expected to have a specific learning outcome for attendees.
* Miniconf (full-day): Single-track mini-conferences that run for the
duration of a day on either Monday or Tuesday. We provide the room, and
you provide the speakers. Together, you can explore a field in Free and
Open Source software in depth.

== PROPOSER RECOGNITION ==

In recognition of the value that presenters and organisers bring to our
conference, once a proposal is accepted, one presenter or organiser per
proposal is entitled to:

* Free registration, which holds all of the benefits of a Professional
Delegate Ticket
* A complimentary ticket to the Speakers' Dinner for the speaker, with
additional tickets for significant others and children of the speaker
available for purchase.
* Optionally, recognition as a Fairy Penguin Sponsor, available at 50%
off the advertised price

If your proposal includes more than one presenter or organiser, these
additional people will be entitled to:

* Professional or hobbyist registration at the Early Bird rate,
regardless of whether the Early Bird rate is generally available
* Speakers’ dinner tickets available for purchase at cost

Important Note for miniconf organisers: These discounts apply to the
organisers only. All participants in your miniconf must arrange or
purchase tickets for themselves via the regular ticket sales process or
they may not be able to attend!

As a volunteer-run non-profit conference, linux.conf.au does not pay
speakers to present at the conference; but you may be eligible for
financial assistance.

== FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE ==

linux.conf.au is able to provide limited financial assistance for some
speakers.

Financial assistance may be provided to cover expenses that might
otherwise prohibit a speaker from attending such as:
Cost of flight
Accommodation
Other accessibility related costs

To be considered for assistance you can indicate this when making your
proposal. We will try to accommodate as many requests for assistance as
possible within our limited budget.

== ACCESSIBILITY ==

linux.conf.au aims to be accommodating to everyone who wants to attend
or present at the conference. We recognise that some people face
accessibility challenges. If you have special accessibility
requirements, you can provide that information when submitting your
proposal so that we can plan to properly accommodate you.

[ClusterLabs] Fwd: [lca-announce] linux.conf.au 2022 - Call for Sessions now open!

2021-08-29 Thread Tim Serong via Users
One week left for talk submissions for linux.conf.au 2022 (virtualized
for the second time, January 14-16 2022).

The linux.conf.au 2022 Call for Sessions is now open. It will stay open
until 11:59pm 5 September 2021 Anywhere on Earth (AoE).

The theme for 2022 is 'community'.

After the challenges of the past year, our community has explored ways
to rebuild the connections we were used to having face-to-face. Many
Open Source communities already had their roots online, so how can this
be applied to other areas, and how can we keep people interested as they
shift to living even more of their lives online? How can we keep in
contact with connections in other countries in a virtual way?

If you have ideas or developments you'd like to share with the open
source community at linux.conf.au, we'd love to hear from you.

## Call for Sessions

The main conference runs on Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 January, with
multiple streams catering for a wide range of interest areas.
We invite you to submit a session proposal on a topic you are familiar
with via our proposals portal at
https://lca2022.linux.org.au/programme/proposals/.
Talks are 45 minute presentations on a single topic presented in lecture
format. Each accepted talk will receive one ticket to attend the conference.

## Call for Miniconfs

We are pleased to announce we will again have four Miniconfs on the
first day, Friday 14 January 2022. These are:

* GO GLAM meets Community
* Kernel
* Open Hardware
* System Administration

Based on feedback over a few years, we will be introducing two major
changes for Miniconfs in 2022: all presentations will be 30 minutes
long, and each accepted presentation will receive one ticket to the
conference.

The Call for Miniconf Sessions is now open on our website, so we
encourage you to submit your proposal today. Check out our Miniconfs
page at https://lca2022.linux.org.au/programme/miniconfs/ for more
information.

## No need to book flights or hotels

Don't forget: the conference will be an online, virtual experience. This
means our speakers will be beaming in from their own homes or workplaces.
The organising team will be able to help speakers with their tech
set-up. Each accepted presenter will have a tech check prior to the
event to smooth out any difficulties and there will be an option to
pre-record presentations.

## Introducing LCA Local

We know many of you have missed the experience of a face-to-face
conference and in 2022 we are launching LCA Local.
While our conference will be online, we are inviting people to join
others in their local area and participate in the conference together.
More information and an expression of interest form for LCA Local will
be released soon.

## Have you got an idea?

You can find out how to submit your session proposals at
https://lca2022.linux.org.au/programme/proposals/. If you have any other
questions, you can contact us via email at cont...@lca2022.linux.org.au.

The session selection committee is looking forward to reading your
submissions. We would also like to thank them for coming together and
volunteering their time to help put this conference together.

[ClusterLabs] CFP: Everything Open 2023 (Melbourne, Australia, March 14-16)

2022-12-13 Thread Tim Serong via Users
Everything Open is a new open tech conference auspiced by Linux
Australia. For background see:

  https://everythingopen.au/news/introducing-everything-open/

For the CFP and other details, read on...

 Forwarded Message
Subject: [Announce] Everything Open, All At Once!
Date: Tue, 13 Dec 2022 20:00:15 +1000
From: Everything Open
To: eo-annou...@lists.linux.org.au, annou...@lists.linux.org.au

The Everything Open 2023 organising team is excited to announce:

* Call for Sessions
* Call for Volunteers
* Financial Assistance applications

ARE NOW OPEN!!!

Wominjeka Everyone,

Everything Open will run over three days - March 14-16, 2023 - in Naarm
(Melbourne) at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.
We are excited to be opening our Call for Sessions to get another wide
range of talks and tutorials in our schedule.
We also need a team of volunteers to help us achieve success with this
conference.

## Call for Sessions

We invite you to submit a session proposal on a topic you are familiar
with via our proposals portal at
https://2023.everythingopen.au/programme/proposals/.
The Call for Sessions will remain open until 11:59 pm on Sunday 15
January 2023 anywhere on earth (AoE).

There will be multiple streams catering for a wide range of interest
areas across the many facets of open technology, including Linux, open
source software, open hardware, standards, formats and documentation,
and our communities. In keeping with the conference's aim to be
inclusive to all community members, presentations can be aimed at any
level, ranging from technical deep-dives through to beginner and
intermediate level presentations for those who are newer to the subject.
Where possible, talks on a related subject will be arranged sequentially
in the schedule.

There will be two types of sessions at Everything Open: talks and
tutorials. Talks will nominally be 45 minutes long on a single topic
presented in lecture format. We will also have a few short talk slots
(25 minutes) available, which are perfect for people new to presenting
at a conference. Tutorials are interactive and hands-on in nature,
presented in classroom format. Each accepted session will receive one
Professional level ticket to attend the conference.

The Session Selection Committee is looking forward to reading your
submissions. We would also like to thank them for coming together and
volunteering their time to help put this conference together.

## Call for Volunteers

We're calling on people to come forward and lend a hand again. If you've
done it all before and just want to get on with signing up, all the
details can be found at the volunteers page -
https://2023.everythingopen.au/attend/volunteer/.

If you're new to it all and want to help out, keep reading!

We're all volunteers ourselves and we need more – we can't run the
conference by ourselves, particularly during the week of the conference
itself. We need help with:

* Checking attendees in when they arrive
* Operating AV equipment such as audio gear and cameras
* Directing people around our venue
* Ensuring talks and tutorials run to schedule
* Setting up and packing up the conference

Anyone who has volunteered for a Linux Australia event before will tell
you it's a very busy time, but also very worthwhile. It's satisfying to
know that you've helped everyone at the conference to get the most out
of it. It's very rewarding knowing that you've made a positive
difference to someone's day.

You don't just get to meet the delegates and speakers, you also get to
know many of them while helping them out. You are presented with a
unique opportunity to get the behind the scenes and close to the action.
You'll get to forge new relationships with amazing, interesting and
wonderful people (just like you), whom you might not have otherwise had
the good fortune to meet in any other way.

In return for your help we'll provide you with:
* Food - morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea
* A clean T shirt everyday
* If you want one, a letter of reference at the end of the conference

Depending on the number of volunteers we get and workload (many hands
make light work), we'll do our best to allocate you to roles so that you
can attend talks that interest you.

For more information, please check out our volunteers page at
https://2023.everythingopen.au/attend/volunteer/, where we have full
details of what we need assistance with.
We review and approve applications regularly.

## Financial Assistance

We have budget set aside for providing financial assistance to
Everything Open attendees who might otherwise find it difficult to
attend. This program is a key part of our outreach and inclusion efforts
for Everything Open.

Anyone can apply for financial assistance for Everything Open 2023. The
assistance can cover things such as a ticket to the conference, travel,
accommodation, or other costs that you would incur to attend. We will be
processing applications on a regular basis until funds ar
