[libreoffice-users] Printing at 80% with LibreOffice on MacOS X

2011-01-17 Thread Christian Oïhénart
Hi,

As in OO, it¹s still not possible to fix format of printing (paysage or
portrait, scale of printing), the command is not available. In NeoOffice,
when we choose ³Paramétrages de l¹imprimante² (in english perhaps Options of
Printer), the first window which appears allows to fix format of printing.
Would it be possible in a next build ?

Christian

LXDE is 100% compatible with Debian testing, make sure you have that source in
your sources.list. Not sure about the specific error though.

FYI, Debian experimental has LO packages.

The packages are not in the usual Ubuntu repositories, so I doubt that
they're in Mint's, either. You probably can't get them via apt at
all. (I could be wrong here)

However, as I don't use any language packs other than US English (if
you can call it that), I'm not sure what you need to do. I suspect
you'll have to find the necessary .deb files, either in your download
or from the lireoffice site and install them with dpkg.

Thank you for a very prompt response.

I have now dowloaded and installed the Debian (*.deb) files and all is
working. However, when I try to install the GB (English) pack

A search for the package leads to Ubuntu PPAs but as I am using the Debian

Please could you try asking this in your own language? There might be people

Is the main problem that the window closes? Do you know how much ram you have
and whether that is getting full from other programs at the same time as
running
LibO?

Re: [libreoffice-users] LibreOffice on LinuxMint Debian Edition...

2011-01-17 Thread Tom Davies
In a "How to install LO" that i was proof-reading a few days ago it had
sections
for "Debian / Ubuntu" and later on another section for "Other distros". At the
time i was wondering how to make it clearer because there are numerous forks
from Ubuntu and even from Debian. So, listing all of them is not a viable
option.

Any suggestions might be interesting

Usually this means that you haven't set the permissions to allow

I am curious, though - have you tried downloading and installing the

It seems Mint switched to Debian in September 2010 (see Linux-User 02.2011

That means you have downloaded the source code? Then you need two packages.
Please read the detailed infos about compiling LO sources by yourself - and
give your computer much time (usually for the first run ~ 12 hours).

Well, yes - Mint is a derivative of Ubuntu, which is a derivative of Debian.

Usually this means that you haven't set the permissions to allow
configure to execute.

I am curious, though - have you tried downloading and installing the
Debian (*.deb) files for LO? I use LO on Ubuntu and it installed and
works just fine ootb.

Re: [libreoffice-users] which is better?

2011-01-17 Thread Tom Davies
Hi :)

Easy. Go with LibreOffice (pun intended)

Go-oo has moved to LibreOffice
http://planet.go-oo.org/
& i think that already many of their updates that were delayed in OpenOffice
have already been included in LibreOffice bug-squad or even pushed into the RCs
:)

Even if LibreOffice doesn't make it as the default Office Suite in April's
Ubuntu release it is in the repos and will most likely be in the October
release. We can't expect a vast behemoth such as Ubuntu to be fast and agile
at
reacting to stuff like this.

Tom :)

I can assure you LibreOffice is better, it has more features and it is better
in
Ms Office compatibility.
But it still needs some bug fixes and still have some problems with Office
compatilibity.
I think, if the development team works hard for some 6-12 months and takes bug
reports seriously, it can be a real alternative for even hardcore Ms Office
users.

[libreoffice-users] LibreOffice on LinuxMint Debian Edition...

2011-01-17 Thread Zed
I have downloaded libreoffice-build-3.3.0.1 to install on my Desktop, which
is running LMDE (a Mint edition based on Debian)

Pasted below is the result of my ./configure comaand

zed@zed ~ $ sudo -s
[sudo] password for zed:
zed zed # cd /home/zed/Downloads/Linux/Extracted/libreoffice-build-3.3.0.1
zed libreoffice-build-3.3.0.1 # ./configure
bash: ./configure: Permission denied
zed libreoffice-build-3.3.0.1 #

and the question is "Why am I getting this error when I am logged in as
root?"

Re: [libreoffice-users] which is better?

2011-01-17 Thread Tom Davies
Hi Edmund :)

"Better" is a very simplistic term. Similar projects usually have different
aims&objectives and therefore suit different circumstances better.

LibreOffice seems more responsive to bug-reports and seems to be developing
functionality faster. In the first week of LibreOffice we saw a LOT of
thoroughly tested bug-fixes were finally released which have still not been
released in OpenOffice. So, OpenOffice would say that it is better because it
is "more stable", meaning that known bugs&quirkiness stay around for longer.

LibreOffice is due to be the standard Office used in most new installs of linux

although OpenOffice is likely to remain in their repositories so people can
still change from Libre to KOffice (is that called Caliga or something now) or
Gnome Office (very very light-weight and limited functionality) or OpenOffice.
We have already seen a lot of Windows users and even some Mac users switch to
LibreOffice.

One problem with creating a table is that we have to keep adding new things to
the LibreOffice side while the OpenOffice side would remain fairly static. Our
opinion would probably be seen as biased although it might be a useful tool for
us to have.

Tom :)

Well, that´s not very easy and will be changing a lot in the next
months. At the moment, I guess, it´s a true statement in general to
say, that LibreOffice has more features and more bugs as well. (My
very personal impression, though.)

But for me, much more interesting is the following:

OpenOffice.org is just open source, whereas LibreOffice is
independent and free (in sense of freedom).

The OpenOffice.org project today is the remainder of a huge
community after most of the independent community members supported
the idea, that a non-profit foundation should take care of the
evolution of their project, rather than Oracle. In fact, when you
look at the people and the spirit of the project, LibreOffice is the
true continuation of the former OpenOffice.org project. It´s just a
new name due to some legal issue.

;-)

[libreoffice-users] which is better?

2011-01-17 Thread Edmund Laugasson

Hello!

How should I know, which is better - OpenOffice.org or LibreOffice?
There would be helpful if there can be created comparison table
(functionality, formats support etc) into LibreOffice's web site.

It seems like extensions for LibreOffice are coming from
OpenOffice.org's website.

There is also Go-OO project at http://www.go-oo.org/ - what about that?
Is LibreOffice including all features of Go-OO?

It seems like OpenOffice.org is still developed and downloadable -
http://download.openoffice.org/ - there is also v3.3 available.

Users are quite confused - three opportunities: LibreOffice, Go-OO and
OpenOffice.org - which to choose...
Which will be included in Ubuntu? I heard, that LibreOffice I use
myself Ubuntu already years...
