[libreoffice-users] Ping Cor - Bug 32948

2011-05-04 Thread NoOp
Can you please test/recheck:
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=32948
[Bug 32948] Address Book Data Source Wizard Doesn't Work

If not add it to the '[Bug 35673] LibreOffice 3.4 most annoying bugs'
list... rumor has it that bugs won't get fixed for 3.4 unless bugs get
added to this list:

I am afraid that the use & rules for the Most Annoying Bugs is not
enough widespread yet, so please let me summarize it:

- To get the proper attention to the real blockers, they _must_ appear
  in the Most Annoying Bugs
  [https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=35673]

- The Most Annoying Bugs are meant for really serious bugs only, and not
for "my favorite red button should be blue"; such bugs will be removed
  from there

If they do not appear there, there is a big probability they'll be
overlooked, even if mentioned on all the mailing lists many times.

[libreoffice-users] Spanish/French Accent Marks

2011-05-04 Thread nhtrader
ubuntu 10.04
libreoffice 3.3.0

I'm trying to do spanish and french homework with libreoffice writer. I know
that I can insert special characters, but this is too slow and cumbersome.
In word I can use the ALT Key sequence such as ALT+0153 for TradeMark or
ALT+0169 for copyright. However, the numbers must be from the numeric keypad
and not from the row above QWERTY. Using these codes is faster than moving
the mouse around and clicking several times.

I've tried the same keystrokes with libreoffice writer and they don't work.

What are the keystrokes required to enter the universal keycode for any
special character such as Spanish and French accent marks?

I suspect it's a false positive based on my own experience. You can probably
get the same answer from their forums.

I've run into the same issues on a different (VB) program, one I wrote
myself kept being tagged as a virus by Avira. I discovered finally that the
reason was Avira at that time detected a setup.exe file in an unexpected
location but it never said so. It just dug up a name and said I was infected
by . After some hair pulling and digging I discovered it was triggering
on a setup.exe in the VB folder.
First I deleted the file and the problem went away. Put the file back,
problem came back. Moved the file to Program Files and the problem stayed
gone!
Avira was declaring a virus based simply on PATH! Then from reading the
groups there I decided Avira was using their install base to do BETA testing
with but not saying so ... I got a support guy to admit it in so many words.
That was the last time I used Avira!

HTH,

Twayne`

[libreoffice-users] won't open documents & more

2011-05-04 Thread Bob Stia
Hello Libre Office users,

My first post to this list. Just joined today out of frustration.

First things first. Running openSUSE 11.3 with KDE3.5.10. Libre Office version
is libreoffice-3.3.1.2-2.4.2.x86_64

I did an upgrade the other day. OpenOffice was uninstalled and LibreOffice was
installed.

When I open Libre Office I cannot open a document because it does not see any.
then if I close libre Office it will not open again. Checked for and removed
any locks I found to no avail. I must close down and reopen my session to get
it back.

Now, once Iget it back I can go directly to a document, right click it, and
choose "Open with Libre Oddice Writer" and it will open. I can close and open
other documents as well and they will open also. However, if I close Libre
Office and try to do it again Libre Office will not open.

It will write OK but when I go to "Save" or "Save as" it will freeze and I
must kill it. Then it will not reopen again unless I close and reopen my
session again.

Please help. Handling documents is a very important feature for me.

[libreoffice-users] Re: .docx can't be read

2011-05-04 Thread plino
Yes, Tom, there are new problems between build 3.4 and docx which didn't
exist in 3.3.2 (interestingly this applies to the 3.4 betas of both LO and
OOo) E.g. for a docx file containing an Equation, OOo simply ignores the
equation while LO ignores the equation and everything after it.

But it's not a Windows problems (you had to say that, didn't you? ;) ), it's
the way LO/OOo store or interpret docx. Here is an interesting article from
German magazine translated by a "competing" office suite

[libreoffice-users] Problem and Question

2011-05-04 Thread Barbara Tobias
I have just upgraded to Ubuntu 11.04 and received LibreOffice 3.3.2
instead of OpenOffice.

The problem I have encountered is that comments created with Cntrl/Alt/N
disappear when the file is saved and then reopened.

The question is whether there is any place I can go to find differences
between OpenOffice and Libre. I had been told there was no difference,
but obviously there is at least one because I used comments extensively
with OpenOffice with no problem.

Thank you.

Re: [libreoffice-users] MS Word "broken" after LibreOffice install?

2011-05-04 Thread Tom Davies
Hi :)
1. Try emptying your wastebin
2. Then empty the deleted files in your email program
3. In your web-browser try Tools - Privacy - clear temp files cache and all
that

4. "Start" button - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools - Clear Disk
Space

2 & 3 can be swapped around if you like. 1 is the fastest way to free-up a
little space so that the other options work. The "Clear Disk Space" might be
called something slightly different and takes ages to scan you drives. You
might want to scroll trhough and untick some of the options and perhaps tick
others. For example it might be wise not to delete set-up files in some cases.

Windows uninstallers don't always do a great job and need a bit of help
sometimes.
Please let us know how this goes
Good luck and regards from
Tom :)

I have uninstalled LibreOffice, and this is still occurring. Any assistance

There is the toolbar Drawing. By default at the bottom of the window.
That toolbar has buttons, among them "connetor" and "flow chart".
(You can click-drag the buttons from the toolbar and thus create a new toolbar).
Click on a shape/line of your choise.
(Release the mouse)
Now drag the shape on the document.
Well, the rest should be be pretty straight forward: ends of lines can be
connected, the right mouse button gives a rich context menu..

You can also have a look at the documentation - sure there must be lots of
details about Draw/Impress :-)

Hi :)
Virus scanning is a bit pointless in linux but it is a good for scanning
Windows partitions or over the network, or from a LiveCd/Usb (=bootable

problems. The bootable Cd boots straight into a very simple menu with options
at the top for anti-virus scanning (it downloads definitions into ram when you
select this option).

Yes indeed :-)

anyone know how to create an organizational chart in impress

There is the toolbar Drawing. By default at the bottom of the window.
That toolbar has buttons, among them "connetor" and "flow chart".
(You can click-drag the buttons from the toolbar and thus create a new
toolbar).

Click on a shape/line of your choise.
(Release the mouse)
Now drag the shape on the document.
Well, the rest should be be pretty straight forward: ends of lines can
be connected, the right mouse button gives a rich context menu..

You can also have a look at the documentation - sure there must be lots
of details about Draw/Impress :-)

I would create the chart using LO draw, then export the drawing (e.g.
as a png/svg image), to be inserted into the impress presentation

Dotan,
Thanks. I don't think it helps to add a "me too" to the claim of ubuntu

I can send you the file to your private mail-address but see the mail of

is extremely stupid as older MSO versions cannot read the file as well.

Re: [libreoffice-users] do not upgrade to Ubuntu 11.04 with standard resolution widescreen monitor

2011-05-04 Thread Tom Davies
Hi :)
A lot of work has gone into Gnome & Unity recently with new releases already
done or imminent. It's going to take a while for those to settle down again.
Oddly, KDE is completely stable right now so you might be better with a K
desktop environment, if you can bear that Windows look. (Allegedly Win7 copied
a lot of KDE elements, specifically the new "Start" button) . Ubuntu 11.04's
implementation of Gnome DE is very rough compared to Gnome in their previous
releases. So the resolution issue is not a huge surprise. Disappointing but
not a surprise.

Have you heard that Mark Shuttleworth made a very pro-Lubuntu speech possibly
signalling that Lubuntu (with the LXDE) might become an officially supported
branch, like Kubuntu (KDE) and Xubuntu (Xfce). Hmmm, that's a thought. I've
not heard of a new release of Xfce for a while so that must be rock-solid by
now
(unless you dislike blue so much that you can't change the colours fast enough).

Obviously this doesn't just affect Ubuntu and does have implications for other
distros such as openSuse, Mageia/Mandriva, Mint, Fedora etc as they use the
same
DEs but Ubuntu's officially recognised family is what i am most familiar with
at
the moment.

Tom :)

I use the Live DVD mostly to install it new. The issue I had was during an
upgrade from 10.10 to 11.04.
I just wish I knew why it did not except the resolution that was being used for
10.10. Even without having the nVidia driver[s] "active", 10.04 LTS defaulted
to the 1366 x 768 resolution of the Acer monitor. Why 11.04 did not, I only
have to guess.

I also planned on no using Unity as well, since I prefer GNOME over what was
written about Unity. I use GNOME as the default with some KDE packages
installed as well.

Re: [libreoffice-users] Re: .docx can't be read

2011-05-04 Thread Tom Davies
Hi :)

There does seem to have been a recent change somewhere that is creating
problems
with docX.  The normal problem of re-arranged pictures and things is inevitable
even just using different versions of MSO but there have been a couple people
in
last couple of days that have sent me docX files that probably would have
worked
previously, or at least opened.  Perhaps its a change with the Xml
implementation in Windows or perhaps some recent fashion or who knows.  It does
seem to be specifically picture-related but seems to stop files from being
opened.  Hey, it's Windows, it could be anything.

Dotan,

"Well, allow me to retort" (as a famous movie character said) :)

LibreOffice IS fully compatible in the sense that it will open any MS Office
file. HOWEVER files created in MS Office may not look exactly the same (or
some features, e.g. Equations not be loaded at all) in LO or OOo

IMO the biggest problem is that files created in LO (and OOo) when saved in
MS Office formats often do not look the same (although users are warned
about this). And that is the biggest obstacle to that strong affirmation in
the Ubuntu site (and probably the largest obstacle for a wider adoption).

Just my 2 cents ;)

That is not fully compatible. That is partially compatible.

Would you say that HTML 5 is fully compatible with HTML 1.0? Because
it is, so long as one restricts his use of HTML 5 to only using

I thought to warn people here, since many have had Ubuntu issues related to
LibreOffice.

I thought someone should let the people know they might want to avoid upgrading
to 11.04 for now. There are enough issues with it, as I have read, that should
make the "average" Ubuntu user wait for a bit before going to it.

It seems that there has been some issues between LO and Ubuntu 11.04 reported
already.

Actually Ubuntu seems to want you to run 32-bit even though you have a 64-bit
system. That is what their web pages seem to say. So since there has been
some
issues with it and LO, and now my found issue with monitor resolution being
unsupported by my monitor even though 10.10 did not have it . . . . .

I thought to give another case for the LO users to avoid 11.04 64-bit for
awhile.

Hi :)
I get the opposite impression of Ubuntu. It seems 'they' want me to use 64bit
versions when the 32bit has been a lot easier for me. I think the 64bit repos
are a lot better now so the slight performance boost might be worth it. I've
still only got 2Gb ram but that's not an issue any more :)

I thought it was kind to alert people that there might be issues for some
people
with the 11.04 that are not a problem with earlier releases such as the last
LTS. I have 1 machine that needs either 10.10 or 11.04 in order to run some
stupid new wireless dongle. The old one worked but we upgraded to the new one
because it was new & more expensive and therefore must be better [sighs deeply]
[shakes head]. Anyway, most of the rest of the machines can stay on 10.04.
The
11.04 works fine on my virtual machine (in gnome) but i haven't really tried
out
much stuff, including LibreOffice, yet.

So, thanks for the warning :)
Regards from
Tom :)

[libreoffice-users] I am wondering why the "Final" version of LO in DEB is still called RC2

2011-05-04 Thread webmaster for Kracked Press Productions

I am wondering why the 64-bit DEB and X86 DEB versions of LibreOffice
that states it is a "Final" version still has the files named as RC2?

I know that that was the last Release Copy and is the same as the final
version, but with the RC2 label still on it, it looks like a
"non-finalized" version.

LO 3.3.2 final is dated 2011-03-22 on the download page, while the DEB
64-bit is dated 16 March 2011. x86 is marked 15 March 2011. That
would/could throw a few IT people off as well.

How difficult would it be to make the DEB version not have file names
that use RC2 in it?

The RPM version do not have RC2 in their file names. So I think that
someone just either forgot or did not think anyone would care. Business
people may care a lot. We want business people to use LibreOffice so
these things should be something that business IT people would wonder
about. Yes most business users will be using Windows, but not all.

I am not being a pain in the -- but since it is May 4th, it would
come to reason that any Final version of LO would no longer be listed as
an RC version.

Re: [libreoffice-users] .docx can't be read

The people who sent the file are complete computer illiterate who

uses as text application. It can well be that the file is composed of
pictures. When I open the file with Hexedit I see content and the

"[Content_Types] xml, the byte beween ] and x is hex 2E.
Can anybody explain why LO can't read this file?
Help is much appreciated.

I suspect the problem is word art. OpenOffice and LibreOffice has no
equivalent
Please send the file to the email francis.f.dollarh...@gmail.com.

I will look at it in LibreOffice 64 Mint Linux, Openoffice, MS
Office 2007

I have the same problem, a .docx with some text and what is probably
some diagrams. It is not understanable in LO and I have had to request a
.doc or PDF.
I suspect it is MS trying to be non-compatible as earlier .docx were not
so bad. As more organisations migrate to MO 2010 and they become less
standard interoperability with LO may disappear altogether.
steve

When MSO forced their way and had their .docx [XML] file format, and the
other "x" formats, become some sort of world standard, they would not
provide the documentation to the ISO standards committee. Then when
that committee pushed and started to edit that format to make it easier
to use, for that standard, MS decided that they would not comply to that
standard.

Also, I have been told that if you create a complex .docx file with the
latest MS Word package, it will not open properly with Word 2007. MS
seems not to want interoperability between MSO releases. They want to
force users to keep buying newer and newer versions to be able to read
the newest format versions.

I use to deal with MSO but no longer. THEY claim to have included the
ODF into their package, since it was the world standard, but messed it
up so it wold not work properly. MSO wants to rule how you do office
work, and do not like the fact that some upstarts are going against
their dictatorship.

Well it is in the middle of the night for me, so my above text might not
say what I wanted correctly.

The big thing is that I always tell my MSO users to use .doc and .xlt
formats if they want others to be able to use them. That way anyone
with a computer that can use Win XP and newer and bought a copy of MSO
when they bought their system can sue those files. Also, the growing
user base for OOo and LibreOffice can use it as well. Too many
companies are dumping MSO for OOo and LO to not make sure that the files
that are being shared are usable to all others.

I have seen problems with macros not allowing a correct translation.
Formatted text seems to correctly translate. I have not tried embedded
graphics.

Which function exactly are you talking about ? I can't seem to find a
"unique value" function in the list of available functions in the
default list provided with LibO 3.3.2.

If you have not done so already, I suggest you report this on the
freedesktop bugzilla database under the libreoffice project. This would
be at least the second Calc function that does not work correctly.
