It seems like I solved my own problem, with the help of others.
I accomplished typing furigana over kanji by selecting the kanji, format >
asian phonetic guide and typing the characters.
The most recent time I tried, the furigana characters in the ruby text box
don't update as you type.  To get rid of the squares, I ended up downloading
another version of Libreoffice.
I made sure to download LibreOffice 3.3.2 (All languages)

Things I haven't been able to accomplish now.

How do you remove the gray shading from the furigana (ruby text)?

How do you change the default behavior from alignment left to something
else?

How do you change the default size of the ruby text?

Is there a way to make all these settings sticky, or at least have
LibreOffice default to remembering in my last setting used?

I just tried google docs with my faulty .docx. Google .docx imports were
quite good at one time, but even all that might can't manage my .docx.
I'm betting the format has changed to thwart competitors efforts at
compatibility.

Hi Michael,

there is a trick that should work if all your images are in the same
directory.

First load the document and then save it into that directory.
Now close the document.

Move the images directory including the document inside to the
new location.

Open the document at the new location. Links should still work.

Now, if you want to have the document at another place, just save
it to that place.

This should work as OO saves links to images relative if the images
and the document are in the same file system.

I actually decided to restart the computer right before I got your response,
and that seems to have fixed the problem - MS Office works just fine now.
The restart probably "auto-cleared" a cache somewhere.  Crisis averted!

Now that I know that the problem is "fixable," I may try re-installing
LibreOffice to see if it will coexist peacefully with Word after a
post-install restart.  I will update to let y'all know if it works.

For the sake of "full-disclosure," this occurred with Windows 7 (64-bit) and
Microsoft Office 2007.

font."

Once I hit "OKAY" and access a blank Word document, if I attempt to type
anything, another error pops up saying "Word has encountered a problem.

will not be able to undo this action once it is completed.  Do you want to
continue?"

If I select "NO" in response to that error, I then receive a message
stating
"There are too many edits in this document.  This operation will be
incomplete.  Save your work."

I have uninstalled LibreOffice, and this is still occurring.  Any
assistance
would be greatly appreciated.

Assuming their is a majority this should be the preferred pronunciation 
posted on the FAQ page.

Actually if you read Libre as a Spanish word (instead of French) then the
closest pronunciation for English speakers is probably Lee-Brea : Lee as
Bruce and Brea as the word Bread but without pronouncing the final d

This means that there are (at least) two correct pronunciations :)

have been offered two files. One of them is the Help pack. Here is a

The help pack is in a separate RPM.
If you go to http://www.libreoffice.org/download/ and choose Linux x86 there
are two downloads: the 147Mb installer which you already have, and a 8.6Mb
helppack.

Just get this and install it (don't ask me how because I'm a Windows user :)
)

I just installed LibO_3.3.2_Linux_x86_install-rpm_en-US.tar.gz
It works fine but there is no Help. I looked in the folder I untarred and installed 
from: everything except Help RPMs. Where can I get a Help RPM - or whatever - to install?

From "Getting Started with Macros" (Chapter 13 of the "Getting Started
with LibreOffice" user guide):

Where are macros stored?

LibreOffice stores user-specific data in a directory under the user’s
home directory. The location is operating system specific. Use Tools →
Options → LibreOffice → Paths to view where other configuration data is
stored. On Windows XP, this is C:\Documents and Settings
\\Application Data. User macros are stored in LibreOffice\3\user
\basic. Each library is stored in its own directory off the basic
directory.

It is not important to understand where macros are stored for casual
use. If you know where they are stored, however, you can create a
backup, share your macros, or inspect them if there is an error.

[libreoffice-users] Moving linked pictures in Impress from one directory to another

Hello folks,

I have a huge presentation in impress which contains lots of images. Most of
the images are linked i.e. saved in a special pictures-folder.

The problem is that i have to move and rename the pictures-folder which
would cause broken links in the presentation.
It would be possible to repair the links in the "Edit links"-Dialog for
every single picture. But this seems to be annoying task. Especially when I
have to change the folder again.

Do you have any Ideas how it is possible to change all or most of the links
in the document at the same time?

Maybe via a Macro?

I'm even thinking about changing the link information directly in
content.xml file which is contained in the odp. 

But I hope there are easier solutions.

Hi :)

When you re-install LibreOffice notice on about the last screen there are 
tick-boxes to set LibreOffice as your default Office Suite.  You probably want 
to UNtick them so that MS Office continues to be used most of the time.  You 
will have to right-click on the website files and then choose LibreOffice or 
"Writer" to open them in LibreOffice.  


Alternatively, if you have already installed LibreOffice then you might try 
right-click on a Word document and choose to have it opened by MS Word by 
default.

I actually decided to restart the computer right before I got your response,
and that seems to have fixed the problem - MS Office works just fine now. 
The restart probably "auto-cleared" a cache somewhere.  Crisis averted!  

Now that I know that the problem is "fixable," I may try re-installing
LibreOffice to see if it will coexist peacefully with Word after a
post-install restart.  I will update to let y'all know if it works.

For the sake of "full-disclosure," this occurred with Windows 7 (64-bit) and
Microsoft Office 2007.

The word is that most of the distros have dumped OOo in favor of 
LibreOffice as their default office suite.  I still see listing for 
GNOME and KDE office suites, but I wonder how long they will last in the 
repositories.  That dumping of OOo may be one of the reasons that Oracle 
is dumping their OOo product line development and support.

Hi :)
Gnome Office and KOffice are aimed at different niche markets from LibreOffice. 
 
Gnome Office aims at being extremely light-weight for very low-spec or ancient 
machines.  LibreOffice is more about functionality than lightness.  


I think it would be good if The Document Foundation could run all 3 projects.  
Perhaps other projects, such as the Android one, could join too.  They would 
need some of their people at high levels within TDF for fairness.  Certain bugs 
seem to be common across all projects, such as proper compatibility with MS 
formats.

I'm not an expert, but I guess you could copy all your macros to a document
and move that document to the other machine. Then you only need to copy the
other way around on the other machine.

You can also copy macros to one file per macro. The file will be a pure text
file and you can load it back on the other machine. You can also export
dialogues to text files (xml), but so far I didn't find a way to import
them. Hopefully someone else know…

I had a similar experience with my HP printer.  I discovered that, by
performing a "modify printer" to 'refresh' the printer driver in CUPS (I
use Linux, and CUPS is the printer manager I use) did the trick.

Then, next time I open LO, the duplexing works again. This seems to occur
whenever there's an update to the printer driver, which isn't being
picked up in CUPS, so I have to update the driver manually.

The printer does have duplex capability; the operating system I am using
is the Ubuntu I just downloaded.  I did remove the printer, reboot,

On a HP Color Laserjet 2600n - wired network connected - I get the same 
thing.  Of course the printer does not have built in duplex capability.  
On the HP PSC 1410, the duplex option is not available at all.


Does you Officejet have built in duplex capabilities?  If it does not, 
then maybe there is no error.  If it does, then LibreOffice is reading 
the printer specs wrong.


I do remember seeing OOo giving me duplex options/ability to a non 
duplexing printer.  The only thing I ever had was a manual duplex 
option.  If that is what you are missing, then I do not know what to say.

I just printed a three-page document created with LibreOffice and found
that I seem to have lost the duplex capability that I have used with
OpenOffice.  The only options under duplex were "ignore" and "off".

Am I doing something wrong or has the duplex capability been lost?  I am
using an HP Officejet 6500 Wireless printer that has done duplex from
OpenOffice.

I pronounce it "Lee-Bruh", not that I have much necessity to speak it.

Aaargh!  But this makes no sense.

One of the first things to do in choosing a name to be used by the 
general public - along with making sure it is not already a trade 
name and that it doesn't mean something unfortunate in some language 
or other - is that speakers of all relevant languages will easily 
determine its pronunciation accurately and identically.  OK, so 
LibreOffice has failed at the first hurdle, but it's too late to rectify that.


Failing that, yes: there needs to be an accepted pronunciation 
clearly explained somewhere.  But the FAQ lets us down there too: it 
asks the question but fails to offer an answer!  Instead, it meekly 
says "If you want to hear" something else, here's how to get

all.  First "LibreOffice is offered to Google Translate as a French 
word to be translated into English.  Since it isn't a French word at

merely asks Google Translate to try to read "LibreOffice" as an 
English word.  But it's not an English word either, and the result is 
merely an attempt to render that string of letters as if it were!
