[libreoffice-users] RE: using libre office with portable apps
Probably the files in the pen are badly fragmented. Since that is a pen (and not a hard disk) the easiest, fastest and most efficient way to defrag is simply to MOVE all contents to a folder in another disk (preferably a HDD) and then move them back. Since files are moved sequentially they will be written in consecutive clusters and therefore defragmented. [libreoffice-users] Fluid References
Hi One and All, New user- on Mac OS X platform. I'm writing a longish text doc and need to reference key statements. Usually by adding superscripted number at end of sentence and then a numbered list at end of doc. Problem is that on draft versions, these text statements get chopped and changed around- messing up the list of refs at the end of the doc. Sure that others have encountered such issue- what's the solution? Initially wondered if possible to hyperlink within the doc to specific sentences that would survive rearranging. But couldn't link to target text. Thankyou. -- View this message in context: http://nabble.documentfoundation.org/Fluid-References-tp2965210p2965210.html Sent from the Users mailing list archive at Nabble.com. -- Unsubscribe instructions: E-mail to users+h...@libreoffice.org Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/www/users/ All messages sent to this list will be publicly archived and cannot be deleted
[libreoffice-users] Frame Positioning Issues; Overlap / Overhang
I maintain a large-ish problem in LibreOffice 3.3.1 [and previous versions, and OpenOffice before that]. http://sourceforge.net/projects/coils/files/WMOGAG-Coils.pdf/download I have consistent issues with frame positioning. I insert a frame, typically anchored to the paragraph, and check the follow-text-flow option. But frames can frequently overlap each other and also overlap footnotes at the bottom of the page. Is there any trick to getting better frame positioning? Typically I use frames to insert examples, code snippets, etc... Is there a better way to do this than frames? Generally I like how frames look, that they are named resources, support captions, etc... But using them is really frustrating due to the positioning ssue.

I think 20 to 30 seconds is more likely (from cold start). I have tried the Portable version on several USB sticks and I noticed that it took different amounts of time for each one. I know that each one have different speed rating for how long it takes to transfer files to-and-from them. So that could be a reason for your time delay. The more expensive your thumb drive, or flash drive, the faster it usually can transfer files - if you buy the same storage size. I have noticed that the 1 and 2 GB thumb drives are a little faster than the 4 GB version, even thought it was rated a little faster. So I might be wrong, or it could also depend on the storage space the drive has, or even the internal circuitry. On my Vista laptop [Intel(R) Pentium(R) Dual CPU T3200 @ 2.00GHz], it takes about 1.5 to 2.5 minutes to load up and run. So it also can be the computer you are using. The faster the USB port, the faster the computer, the faster the load time and such. Unfortunately, if you need to create any new sheets in a spreadsheet, they will still start with the real default font. I trust this helps. Better yet, put the Microsoft Office document up on a free Windows Live SkyDrive account. Not all features are available under the in-browser editing option, but the in-browser viewing of Microsoft Office documents is superb.
