Indeed, all emails sent to the list are archived and publicly
accessible. You can access those archives here:
http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/

Email addresses are in clear text, so unfortunately, it is possible
that a company could get your address from these archives.

I checked Save As and it appears you can save to the *.wps format - I

If for some reason it does not open Works documents properly, you
should be able to save the files within Works to some other format.
It has been some years since I dealt with Works, but I have a copy or

To be honest, I do not know why MS still gives them out with some new

Re: [libreoffice-users] LO 3.4.4 crash after upgrade/reinstall from 3.4.3

2011-11-16 Thread webmaster for Kracked Press Productions

You might want to make sure the LO folder in the Program folder [and
Program Data folder] has been removed as well. Many time these folders
and their user data is kept and would get in the way of a clean
install. I do not know where these are, off hand, for Vista or Win 7,
but I know I had to remove these type of folders when I needed to do a
clean install with Windows. Ubuntu has the folder as a hidden
".libreoffice" folder.

I just did an "upgrade" for my 32-bit Vista DELL laptop from 3.4.3 to
3.4.4 with no issues. I still have to upgrade my Ubuntu 10.04 desktop
[main system] from 3.4.3 to 3.4.4 though.

My apologies up front if this is the wrong list to mail this to, seemed the
most logical at the time.

On Windows XP SP3, after upgrading to 3.4.4 from 3.4.3. LO crashes with
the stand M$ crash

AppName: soffice.bin AppVer: 3.4.402.500 ModName: msvcr90.dll
ModVer: 9.0.30729.6161 Offset: 0002e9f4

I then decided to uninstall and reinstall and still crash, any ideas.

Yes. Works (pun intended) just fine with .wps docs created by MS Works
9.0. Tested on LO 3.4.4 build:402.

Oddly enough MS Works has a 'saveas' option to save to .odt, but each
time I tried it fails with:
Works cannot save . There may not be enough space on the computer
or Works cannot save the file to the specified destination.

And of course I have both enough space and the proper permissions. It
does save as a .doc file though.

Create a sub-folder 'python':
$HOME/.libreoffice/3/user/Scripts/python

Add the script *.py to that folder.

Added an an extension - ScriptProviderPython (or something similar) - by
default.

You can add a new python script by placing into the correct directory.

[With LibreOffice NOT running]

So - one location
($liboBaseDir) [in my case under linux that is /opt/LibreOffice3.4]

The full path is then
/opt/libreoffice3.4/Basis3.4/shared/Scripts/python

Start LibreOffice and you will find the new script available.

Just tested this - worked fine.

I would of thought that doing something similar to add a script to your
user configuration it's just a change of location, again under Linux

$HOME/.libreoffice/3/user/Scripts

But alas that did not work...with a little luck someone else will point
out the error of my ways here - otherwise I'll try to work it out a bit
later and get back.

[libreoffice-users] getting involved and having a say

2011-11-16 Thread Tom Davies
Hi :)
LibreOffice is excellent and exciting to get involved with.  From the outside
it might appear dull and boring.  I mean it's "just an office suite" right?
Actually NO.  It deals with issues that reach far beyond the obvious as this
draft shows ...
http://www.documentfoundation.org/foundation/

Even with extremely limited or even no former experience (what other sort is
there?) the project can help you learn programming skills even while producing
results that may well get incorporated into the final product!!

Documentation is another good way in to get involved and learn about working
with people around the world on this curiously interesting project.  There are
many other teams that collaborate to get the results out there into the real
world.

Good luck all and have fun with it!
Regards from
Tom :)

It's not as easy/apparent to find as one would hope. But:

IMO that last should be on foremost on the the 'Get Involved' page...
but then I'd have to go over to the web list & complain & then file a

Re: [libreoffice-users] Microsoft Works

2011-11-16 Thread Tom Davies
Hi :)
Which format does it use?  Does it save as .wks or something?  Presumably it
can "Save As ..." the older MS formats such as .doc, .xls and such, which can
easily be read by LibreOffice.  I am not certain about wks.

How about installing LibreOffice alongside MS Works and trying it out?  It is
possible and probably a good idea to have each running alongside each other for
a while until you become more familiar with LO.  At first you can avoid making
LO the default app for reading MS formats and just use the right-click menu and
"Open with ... " when you have time to explore the unfamiliar.  That way when
you have to meet deadlines it's easier for you.

Installing LibreOffice doesn't mean you have to uninstall MS anything.  Just
have both :)

Tom :)

Re: [libreoffice-users] How do I enable "Create" new Python macros?

2011-11-16 Thread David S. Crampton

Tom & Drew,

Path to "experimental features" is Tools | Options | LibreOffice |
General.

Been there, done that.

Drew's info about the editor leads to next question: Where is the Python
interpreter? Still in LO? How to address it / launch it?

Or should I install Python as a self-standing language?

The fact that the sample Python scripts execute properly implies that a
Pyton environment is already within LO. I would regale the forum with the
story of the optimist's birthday present but ... I digress.

I fully agree with ditching "not great" editors.

Thanks,

However, I have to stress that: We need to drag the panel very very

When the panel and the edge of LibreOffice's main window becomes close

It worked, but not so friendly, my wish is

1) Double click makes the panel docked

2) Make it easier to drag the panel
(Like LibreOffice magetic to stick the panel :))

Hello David

First - I believe this accurate, but can't say with real certainty.

The python editor that was supplied was not considered all that great so
the decision was to remove it - in other words there is no configuration
or other setting that needs to be changed- there is no built in editor
anymore.

In other words the paradigm now is to develop your script with your
editor of choice and then add the macro into your user/or/shared
LibreOffice configuration.

[libreoffice-users] Re: Font disappears in Draw text box

2011-11-16 Thread Tom
A reply for Proworks1

"
Tom -

First, my apologies for not answering sooner - I was out of town and did not
check email.

Second, the matter is fixed, and the answer was surprising. While looking at
my font files that I removed from the Library in column mode (file name,
date created, etc.), I saw that all my fonts in the user font folder were
date created in 1969! It seems the upgrade to Lion set the creation date to
this baseline. After changing the date to 1999 with Finder attribute app,
the problem was solved. I could then re-add the fonts to the user folder and
have had no problems.

I suspect the Lion arrangement in handling fonts will do this with old font
suitcases/holders. I eliminated some old freeware fonts that were limited in
use anyway, so the system runs much smoother.

For anyone having font problems of this sort, I strongly suggest checking
the creation date if nothing else works. I should have done that sooner.

Mike
"

I seriously doubt anyone would have thought of this so congrats for fixing
the problem!!

Tom :)

Hi,

I do not simple copy it, but do this:
Enter a blank line at the end.
Mark the content without the blank line and while marked use Insert >
Section, OK.
Goto the blank line and again Insert > Section. But this time check
"link" and select the previous made section.

So when you later on change something, you only need to update and the
"copy" will have the changes too.

it shows but as a very big window

I did, but it did not dock ...

Hold down the Control key (or whatever is the Mac equivalent) and
double-click the part of the slide pane at the top where it says
"Slides".
On Mac OS X 10.6.2, if I hold down the Command key and double click on
the "Slides" bar,

LibO 3.4.4 crashes :)

By the way, here is the crash report

http://pastebin.com/hL1TfwkT

The enviroment is a little different from the last reported:

Mac OS X 10.6.8
LibO 3.4.3 (3.4.4 crashes too)

I know there must be a way to reset all settings to default but I find it
too dramatic:)

Anyone?

Regards,
