[libreoffice-users] Re: LOcalc SAVE as .html gratuitously changes HREF= from relative to absolute.

2011-12-25 Thread GaryKYF
Jiri & :

I have both "use relative" boxes checked in
"Tools/options/Load-Save/General" (although I saw the same behavior when
neither box was checked.)

The problem is: HREF= is relative after the first SAVE and it's changed to
absolute after just another LOAD and SAVE; no other operations performed.
I still think this is a bug... try my sequence of operations on your
machine!

2011-12-25 Thread webmaster for Kracked Press Productions

I would choose "relative" URLs. That way, when you want to move the
pages to a different system, it will still work properly. If I created
a web site with "absolute" URLs, then when I place it online, the URLs
would point to file-type of URL instead of one that would be used with a
domain.

a sample of a file-type or style:
file:///home/timothy/a-web-pages/godaddy-host/libreoffice-na.us/English-3.4-installs/dictionary.html

16) It's now been changed to an **ABSOLUTE** path and the abc.html

Do you have an explanation that would let me believe that this

[libreoffice-users] Re: RTF to PDF Command Line

2011-12-25 Thread Tom
Hi :)
Don't worry. Any time is ok. This thread stays here and you can always
create a new one if it's months or years before you get around to it.

Rtf can hold images. I just did a quick check. Svg, png, gifs were all
fine. I didn't try jpgs. Rtf can't cope with Macros

Microsoft promoted Rtf as a long-lasting format that all sorts of programs
would use. Apparently there was/is a court-case about it. There were
claims that Rtf was too proprietary to the extent that it was difficult for
non-MS programs to integrate updates to the format into their programs. So
instead of being able to be used properly in all programs Rtf was really
limited to MS programs. Crazy huh? MS have stopped developing Rtf so any
current or future security issues or any problems at all will remain
unfixed. MS claim that DocX is "Open" but seem to be making their
implementation of it secret/proprietary.

Now Adobe are promoting their Pdf format as the one format that can be read
the same on any system. It is a proprietary format. It is free as long as
they choose to keep it free but that could change anytime they like. Also
if there are any problems or security issues then we have to rely on Adobe
to fix them.

Rtf to Pdf is a bit like "Out of the frying pan and into the fire". It does
sort things out temporarily but locks you in further. Staying with Rtf
makes more sense. Moving to Odf is the best bet = at least it really is
native to a wide variety of programs and is even supported in MS Office now.

Regards from
Tom :)

The iPad2 has 32GB of storage plus whatever you want to pay for in iCloud.
I was not thinking of using USB sticks as you cannot connect them directly

Transfers would be made through Sync or iCloud.
The only problem I see is obtaining a version that will run on the IOS5
system.

Re: [libreoffice-users] Libre Office in IOS5?

2011-12-25 Thread webmaster for Kracked Press Productions

I have read that there are people working on versions for tablets. I
have seen text about a version for Android tablets, and I think I have
read the same about Apple's tablets. The key will be how "limited" will
it be due to the low resources for your "standard" tablets.

According to the web site, Mac's version system resources are the following:
* MacOSX 10.4 (Tiger) or higher;
* Intel or PowerPC processor;
* 512 Mb RAM;
* Up to 800 Mb available hard disk space;
* 1024x768 graphic device with 256 colors (higher resolution
recommended).

How much does an iPad have available for LO to reside on and run from?
Most likely it will be either run off a Thumb drive or a media card
[microSD?], like the current Windows "portable" version that runs on a
Windows PC.

The real key is porting the code to the tablet OSs. How many of LO's
developers have the skills with programming for the Android OS or iPad's
OS? We have plenty of developers, and experience, for Windows, Linux,
and MacOSX, but tablets are new platforms and it will take a bit of
time to get the experience needed to do the porting to these platforms.
I do not know if these OSs have much documentation available for people
to learn how to program on them.
