Re: [libreoffice-users] latest java update has broken my install ofLibre Office.
So, I'm not the only one that got eaten by the java monster. Specifically I tried enabling accessibility too and the archives of this list have a few messages to that effect as well. I think the proper term for that is vindication. On Tue, 26 Jun 2012, Tom Davies wrote: Hi :) I think this is the way forwards. Well the subject pretty much says it, I got a notification there was an update to Java, I believe it is java 7 update five. Once I did the update my install of Libre Office no longer works. As soon as I try to start the program I get the standard windows 7 message about a problem has caused libre office to stop working, Windows will close the program, blah blah blah. I have tried repairing the install and when that did not do anything I went so far as to remove the whole install and re- install Libre Office. Still no joy. I am not sure if this is an accessibility problem or not, I do know that the java update did totally screw my install of access bridge as well and I had to re-install that too. This is the first time I?ve ever had a java update screw things up this way. Needless to say I am not a happy camper, I depend on this program to do paperwork for work here at home. Has anyone else had this happen with this java update? I am running the 32-bit version of windows 7. I have posted this to the accessibility list too but am posting it here in case it is not related to the accessibility settings and is a general problem. One user on the accessibility list suggested that I try putting the java 631 version back on the system and see if that solves the problem. I know the java folks don?t recommend you do things like this but I?m frankly willing to if it will get this fixed for now. If anyone has any other ideas on how to fix this or if you need more info just let me know. Thanks in advance. I had the same problem here, running jre 7 on XP and installing the newest LibreOffice. The problem was fixed by removing javasettings_Windows_x86.xml (I actually just renamed it to javasettings_Windows_x86.xm0) and then when I started LibreOffice a new and correct version was created. The old xml file contained info about the jre6, which was not there any longer. Apparently LO 3.5.4.2 didn't detect the correct Java version when upgrading from LO 3.4.xx. [libreoffice-users] .odt - default package being Okular not LO
A little while back, during one of the installs of LO on my Ubuntu 10.04 system, for some reason the .odt file extension/mime was transfered to Okular. I do not remember when this happened, but it must have been when I removed LO from my system to install the next line. The wonder I have is why .odt did not go back to using LO as its default package. Got any ideas why that would happen? Why all the other ODF extension would default to LO and .odt staying with Ukular? I have changed this so LO is the default, but why did LO not make .odt one if its extensions/mimes? Re: [libreoffice-users] .odt - default package being Okular not LO
Tom, I have changed the default package back to LO, but my wonder is why .odt did not go to LO when it what changed. Okular does not read them properly at all, the only time I allowed it to open a .odt file, or at least that was my memory. It is just weird that LO did not take all of its mimes associations back. It tends to be that the newly installed package who uses the mime/extension get it over the one that had it before. Then you have to change the properties of the extensions to give it back to the package of your choice. It seems to be that way with the audio/video packages I install on Ubuntu, so why not .odt going to LO when it was installed? I think that Okular was installed by Ubuntu and not me. I do not need that package so I would not have installed it. By the way, as an install option for LO, I do like the part where I am asked if LO was going to be for just me or any user on the computer. I do not know if it is part of the OS install process, but I have seen it with the installation of extensions as well. For a multi-user computer, that is an interesting option. [libreoffice-users] Re: latest java update has broken my install of Libre Office.
Tom, Java based programs on a Windows OS are frustratingly unstable when multiple Java Runtime Environments are present because of the way program configurations are pointed to the version of Java to call--registry entries, user environment variables, system environment variables. For stability, run with just one JRE--but don't allow it to update until convenient for you to monitor changes. You could jump in and immediately uninstall all things Java based (NVDA, Dolphin, JAB) and LibreOffice--and clean the registry. And then reinstall everything so configuration files are correct. But one simple option for additional troubleshooting would be to create a new user account on the computer. Login to it--and test your Java components. If JAB based utilities run, then check them in LibreOffice. And if while using the new account, JAB based programs fail (and they may), you probably will need to uninstall and reinstall. But if all is good for the new user account, the problem *is* configuration issue for you normal account, and you will need to dig into your Windows user profile. An uninstall, reinstall will fix either case but is tedious and error prone -- so use an uninstaller ( I prefer the VSRevo products with moderate registry clean-up, the free version is fine for 32-bit, but would need the Pro for 64-bit--has a modest license fee to use beyond trial period -- find them here: freeware 32-bit only -- http://www.revouninstaller.com/start_freeware_download.html pro version 32/64 -bit trial -- http://www.revouninstaller.com/download-professional-version.php ) Then reload these Windows programs in order: JRE 1.7u5 (this would now be the ONLY Java runtime on the system, with fresh configuration laid down) Java Access Bridge (use Jamal Mazrui's JWin installer from http://empowermentzone.com/JWin.htm ) Dolphin or NVDA (or both) (test that they're working) LibreOffice 3.5.4 (select the JRE, and activate Accessibility -- assistive technology tools) Obviously once Dolphin or NVDA come off you are likely to need some sighted assistance with the interface, but it should be brief and by running through the clean up this way--you will be more likely to have a stable and fully functioning system as an outcome. Re: [libreoffice-users] Downloading LibreOffice
I was just waiting for the file to migrate to all the mirrors and then they would have the file shown on the download page. It can take a day or four, depending on how long the mirrors take to sync up. So I uploaded it, waited for it to be placed in the mirrored folder[s], and waited for the system to show it. My only part is the uploading. Everything else is depending on others and their systems. The week or few was the fact that I had it ready but between bandwidth commitments and being sick, I could not upload it for about a week after I created it. It does take over 9 hours to upload these DVDs, with my limit of 120 +/- KB/s uploading. My download speeds can be over 10 MB/s. I am paying for 1 MB/s uploading, but the building would need to replace all of the cables that were poured in concrete walls in 1975-76 in order to get that, or so I suspect. Even the telephone lines would have problems with dealing with half the DSL speeds that I would be paying for if I went that route. So, it takes a day or night to do the uploading and committing all my bandwidth to that cause, since even browsing need some uploading of returned data for the packet queries. My repos for Ubuntu 10.04 are still giving me 3.4.6 (which i am still very happy with). Your Dvds are ahead of one of the largest community-based projects that have tons of people working on these sorts of things (hopefully). Just accept the compliment! When you download a file from there, you are actually downloading it from one of the many mirrors available. I would be one, buy my hosting company will not allow that to happen. Sometimes there are problems with the chosen mirror. If you go to the info part of the green button to download the file, and click there, you will be given a list of mirrors to choose from instead of the downloading system to make that choice for you. So you may be either having an issue with the default mirror, OR your dial-up company could be limiting the size of file being downloaded. I know that some do from experience. So, here are your option, as I see it. 1) try one of the mirrors and start the download before you go to bed. If it goes, you should have it by morning. 2) have your son
[libreoffice-users] page refresh to populate dropdown list with newly added data HELP!!! Need ideas !
I've created a program using base. Users enter data into an .odt file. I have a button that opens another form, so the user can add data to the database, but when they return to the prior document, they have to refresh the database in order to see the newly entered data in a dropdown list. My users are elderly, so I need this process to be super easy. What I've done, is added a button to the second form - Return to___ naming the form they started from. This activates the document, but I still need a way for the refresh to happen automatically. I either need the first form to close when the second one opens, so the data is available when the return to is clicked, or, when the first form is activated, it needs to automatically refresh via a macro or something. Any thoughts? I would really appreciate your assistance. Re: [libreoffice-users] Downloading LibreOffice
Yesterday, I was told that the upload will be going to the mirrors, but not given any idea about how long it would take. I stated a few days since it took that long with my last upload. For me, I need to wait a few days after the 3.5.5 comes out, before I go after the 99 items and 2.1 gig of files for it, if you also get a 3.5.5 portable version[s] as well. So I do not go after it the first few days when the mirrors might be more busy. But it will then take a bit to edit the DVD[s] to go to 3.5.5 from 3.5.4, but less time than it would be to go from 3.4.6. I run Ubuntu 10.04/GNOME and 12.04 [with MATE], along with a few windows system. I wish 10.04 would go to the newer LO line as 12.04 does. It would be easier to do the updating then. The real thing about my DVD is that you can take it and then redue it to be more towards your needs. The real part of the plan was to have a single disc that includes almost everything that a new user might need with his/her install of LO, including every dictionary, thesaurus, etc. extension in every language version found. Then there are the templates and gallery extensions. Then all of the documentation files - now with 3.3, 3.4, and/or 3.5 version when available. Then there was the extras like Firefox and Thunderbird, plus a few other packages that might be useful to the users. So, you get 2.1 GB is all the install files, including help/language files in 8 languages. Then the rest of the [now] 4.0 GB DVD [except the internal needs of the DVD web pages] is all the other extras, 1.8 GB worth of files [over 600 of them]. At least I do not need to update all of that for every update of LO. But, as more 3.4 and 3.5 docs are available, I can remove the 3.3 versions to save space. As I find that the non-English dictionaries have updates, I will work on updating them. I believe I did French [4?], German [4?], Spanish [20], plus a few more dictionary updating. Then I found a few updates to the extensions I had listed. Thunderbird and Firefox got updated. Though I do not own a Mac, I try to see if there are any Mac versions/updates of the extra packages I list in that page. I cannot run those version, like I do with Windows and Ubuntu version, but I will list it anyway for our MacOSX PPC and Intel/x86 users. I do a little at a time. Just ask Tom about the redesign of my Install and Documentation pages in this version 5 of the DVD. I may have a completely new theme of the pages by the time I release my first 3.6 line DVD, which may not be till 3.6.3 or 3.6.4. But, if I do it slowly and one page at a time, it is easier. There are still pages that have not changed since the 3.3.x DVD versions. There was not real need, but may in a few months. Re: [libreoffice-users] Re: latest java update has broken my install of Libre Office.
Hi all. Ok well I have done as complete an uninstall and registry cleaning as I can reasonably do at this point. After uninstalling all java related things including L.O. I cleaned the registry and there were in fact some errors that were corrected. So I then re-installed the programs in the order that Stuart suggested. However, when I run L.O. and try to enable accessibility I get this error message. LibreOffice requires a Java runtime environment (JRE) to perform this task. The selected JRE is defective. Please select another version or install a new JRE and select it under Tools - Options - LibreOffice - Java. OK So, this is where I am at this point. I hope to hell somebody figures out what is going on with this since I am apparently not the only person having this problem. Fortunately my Mac version of L.O. is still working so I can use it to actually get work done because I cannot afford to keep frakking around with this all week. I'm done ranting for now, I do appreciate you guys trying to help out and I am sure we will get this figured out eventually. Best regards, Tom -Original Message- From: V Stuart Foote Sent: Tuesday, June 26, 2012 8:09 AM To: users@global.libreoffice.org Subject: [libreoffice-users] Re: latest java update has broken my install of Libre Office. RE: [libreoffice-users] Re: latest java update has broken my installof Libre Office.
Tom, But the Java Access Bridge, v 2.02 did load against JRE 1.7u5--correct? Are you back up with your NVDA, and or Dolphin screen reader? Did you delete (or rename) your LibreOffice user profile following the uninstall prior to launching LibreOffice after reload? That would be the entire C:\Users\your user name\AppData\Roaming\LibreOffice folder. Any difference working with a newly created user account?
