Yes. You need to concatenate the required year value with the strings required before and after it. Suppose that you have the current year - 2013 in your example - in A1 of your new spreadsheet. You need to concatenate 'file:///home/fred/Generation Readings- with A1-1 and .ods'#$Jan.A68. Note that the two single quotes are part of the string you are creating and the four double quotes delimit the two text strings, so the first string has a single quote immediately following its opening double quote. You can carry out this concatenation using the operator: ='file:///home/fred/Generation Readings-A1-1.ods'#$Jan.A68 (The numerical expression A1-1 is converted to a string value automatically.) You might expect this to work, but it doesn't. The formula above results in a text string which is interpreted literally and not as a cell reference to the other spreadsheet file. But the trick you need is available in the INDIRECT() function, which provides the necessary conversion. So the formula which works is =INDIRECT('file:///home/fred/Generation Readings-A1-1.ods'#$Jan.A68) I trust this helps. Hi :) Yes, sadly attachments don't reach the mailing list. You can use Nabble or a Cloud storage space or file-sharing site to upload a file and then give this mailing list the url. Nabble is probably best and is free. Use the links in this email or from the official LibreOffice website navigate to the help 'forum'. It's really just the same as the mailing list except that it magically sorts all the posts into threads and uses an interface to view them so that the whole thing looks a lot like a forum. Once in Nabble get to the right thread and reply to any of the comments. Once it gives you a space to type in a message notice the buttons at the top. The last one is More and the top option in the menu that gives is to Upload file. It inserts a url-link into the message and people will be able to click on that link to get to the file you uploaded. Hi :) Perhaps the problem is in Word? There are a few different options. 1. Tell the client that Writer is more of a desktop publishing package than Word and allows greater sophistication in layout. Then give the client the link so they can download and install LibreOffice on their systems. 2. Post a bug-report against Word and see the response from MS. (I don't think it is possible for non-MS staff to post bug-reports about MS products but it might be). 3. [libreoffice-users] Modify existing conditional formatting range
Hi I have spreadsheet document with conditional formatting assigned to range of cells. I am looking for simple way to modify range conditional formatting is applied to (e.g. existing A1:C4 becomes A1:D5). I know I can save file, unzip it, modify content.xml, zip it up again and load in LO, but this is tiresome. Alternatively I can select new range of cells and create new conditional formatting with exactly the same conditions. It is sensible workaround if I have only one condition, but is not in case there are few of them. I am using LO 3.6.3 with redesigned conditional formatting dialog windows. Re: [libreoffice-users] LO to .doc with background image?
Hi :) Word definitely allows Anchor to Paragraph but not the better choice for this sort of thing which was the one you chose. Anchor to Page makes a mess in Word. Sorry chap, i thought the .doc was created in LO and then wouldn't display properly in Word. Each version of Word has a slightly different implementation of the .doc format. It helps push people into buying the same version that the majority of people they do business with use, and then pushes them into upgrading around the time everyone else does too. It has settled down a lot now that it's not the main format being pushed by MS which is why it's such a great one to use to share documents at the moment. Odt will eventually take over but it might take a while. It is possible to pseudo-install LibreOffice on a usb-stick so that you can use your version with your settings on any machine you plug the stick into (assuming it's running some variant of Windows) http://www.libreoffice.org/download/portable/ There are quite a few OpenSource apps that can be pseudo installed in this way so that they don't really touch the system much and don't raise any flags with the IT Department. Have you (or has your client) opened the .doc file in genuine Microsoft Word or in the freeware (Windows only) Word viewer? Or have you just reopened the .doc file in LibreOffice and found the background absent there? I think there may be circumstances where the .doc file does retain the background but this is not converted correctly when reopened in LibreOffice. The background is gone both when I open the .doc file in LO and when he opens it in Word. Which may indicate that it is a problem with the export? It is not a linked file. And all the other images export/import just fine from the .doc file. It is just the full-page-no-margins background image that disappears. I'll probably be writing on a machine with genuine Word next week, and then I could do some tests on a USB-stick to see if a background image added inside Word will import into LO. Note also that the Background tab of the Page Style dialogue (where you selected the background graphic) has a Link box. Re: [libreoffice-users] locked in other OS
Hi :) Ahah, just found this message! Thank you Steve :) No the weird thing is that if i stay on the same computer and try to reopen the file using the same OS then it opens fine and allows me to edit. It's only when a different OS is used that the file only opens as Read-Only I can't see a lock-file in the folder that the document is in and i can't remember the other place lock-files get stored. [libreoffice-users] Base: scroll in form via macro
Hi I'm trying to make my database user friendly and I have a question: From one form, A, I'm launching another form, B, using a button with this macro attached: |Sub openFormByTag(oEv) cWhat= com.sun.star.sdb.application.DatabaseObject.FORM oModel= oEv.Source.getModel() sName= oModel.Tag oView= oModel.Parent.Parent.Parent.Parent.getCurrentController() oView.loadComponent(cWhat, sName, FALSE) End Sub | Works fine, but: I would like to specify a row id or something in form A so that form B scrolls automatically to the the particular row I want to view or edit. Doe anyone have an idea about how this can be done? Or perhaps where I can find some documentation for this stuff? I have a hard time figuring out the hierarchy of the objects as well as their exposed members and methods. Or maybe I not looking the right place :-) Thanks in advance. Hi. Is it a windows file server or a linux file server. Lock files are hidden, you need to turn on show hidden files to see them. steve On 2012-11-09 10:30, Tom Davies wrote: Hi :) Ahh, thanks. [libreoffice-users] Links in a writer document
I'm working on forms that calculates child support. In Wordperfect I was able to lay it out in tables and use the table functions to do the calculations. In Writer the table functions are very limited. For example it doesn't have a function that tells when a cell is blank or one to look up an entry in a table. All those functions are in Calc. In order to be able to use the formatting from Writer it's necessary to link data from my Writer table cells to Calc and then link it back into Writer. This is quite a headache. In order to simplify this I tried embedding the spreadsheet into the Writer document as an OLE object with DDE links inside it to table cells in the Writer document. I need the spreadsheet to update automatically when data in the table cells change. To date I've had poor results being able to do this. I suppose I could write the forms in Calc, but I'm not nearly as familiar with document formatting for Calc as I am with Writer. I believe the learning curve would be steep. Can you suggest how I can make these forms work? RE: [libreoffice-users] missing file in libreoffice 3.6.3
thanks tom, I install the file three time. it contains the RPMS folder with 54 items (.rpm) and it runs OK the subfolder desktop-integration - I thought it has something to do with the installing but it seems not - contains -freedesktop-menus -mandriva-menus -suse-menus the redhat-menus not there - which is for fedora dist. however, I re-install the files again, it is exactly the same as what I already installed and the program still not working. I wounder if the java components have anything to do with that ( I just install them lately ) I'll try to uninstall it and re-install it again.. sorry for sending this again but I missed one thing in that one referring to the installation instructor @ libreoffice.org The above command(s) does the first part of the installation process. To complete the process, you also need to install the desktop integration packages. To do this, change directory to the desktop-integration directory that is within the RPMS directory, by entering the following command at the command line of a terminal window: cd desktop-integration Now run the installation command again: If you have a Fedora system, execute this command: su -c 'yum install libreoffice3.3-redhat-menus-3.3-1.noarch.rpm' the file redhat-menus (bold and italic one) seems to be really important and its not available on that linkmy system running (x86_x64), and I'm running the English version I tried to find this file on the internet but I couldn't Date: Wed, 7 Nov 2012 16:05:31 + From: tomdavie...@yahoo.co.uk Subject: Re: [libreoffice-users] missing file in libreoffice 3.6.3 To: future_m...@hotmail.com; users@global.libreoffice.org Hi :) Please can you try downloading again from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/ Well, navigate from there to the right language for you.
