[libreoffice-users] entering records

2013-05-10 Thread rounak jain
Three Tables:
I am writing the fields in Table.FieldName format below.

1a. Customer.ID
1b. Customer.Name

2a. Invoice.ID
2b. Invoice.Customer Name
2c. Invoice.Customer ID

3a. Invoice Details.ID
3b. Invoice Details.Invoice ID

1a, 2a, 3a are all primary fields.

Relationship one to many between:
1. Customer ID.ID ->Invoice.Customer ID
2. Invoice.ID -> Invoice Details.Invoice ID

Now, in Filemaker this was the way to use the forms:
Create a new Invoice (i.e. create a new record using a Form based on
Invoice Table).
Enter a value in the field Invoice.Customer Name (a combo box populates it
with values from Customer.Name)
I have been able to reach upto here in Base.

This is the part where I need help:
In Filemaker, the Invoice.Customer ID field used to be setup as a lookup
field to auto-retrieve the Customer ID number from the Customer Table when
an entry was made in Invoice.Customer Name. The obvious purpose of doing
this is to link the Invoice and Customer table. I do not know how I am
supposed to get this done in Base. Hope I am clear. Kindly let me know if I
am not. Thank you for your time.

2013-05-10 Thread Kracked_P_P---webmaster

Here is the error I got when I tried to install 4.0.3 on an Ubuntu 13.04
with MATE de.
I installed the files without errors till I got to the
desktop-integration part.

Here is the listing from the terminal.

timothy@timothy-Inspiron-1525:~/Lib/DEBS/desktop-integration$ sudo dpkg
-i *.deb

Selecting previously unselected package libreoffice-debian-menus.
dpkg: regarding libreoffice4.0-debian-menus_4.0.3-3_all.deb containing
libreoffice-debian-menus:

libreoffice-debian-menus provides libreoffice-unbundled and is to be

So, to get rid of the issue, I went to the Package Manager and removed
all of installed LO files.

Then I reinstalled LO 4.0.3 and the menu part.

" libreoffice-core conflicts with libreoffice-unbundled "
seems to tell me that I must uninstall the previous version on 13.04
before I install the next one. I got this with installing 4.0.2 as well
on this system.

This is the second laptop that was upgraded from 12.04 or 12.10 to
13.04, with this system being a clean install over an upgrade.

That might be the issue here.
MATE and Cinnamon are the desktops for people who liked GNOME 2.x

or the others. I hate Unity and GNOME 3.x. The same reasons I hate
Win8's desktop. If you read the articles, you will find many users
went to Mint Linux and other distros to get away from Unity. Mint
having both MATE and Cinnamon desktop versions, got a lot of users
from Ubuntu. I stuck with Ubuntu, but chose MATE desktop environment.

it may be a MATE issue, or may not.
So I ask if any MATE or Cinnamon desktop users are having the same

So far, I have installed it on Ubuntu 12.04 and 13.04 with MATE

Been using Ubuntu since 9.04 or 9.10 for a few months till 10.04

13.04 gave me errors when I tried the desktop-integration install.

The only fix I came up with, for it on 13.04 was to remove the
current version of LO then install the new one over again.

Hi Tom,

in fact, if I am right, the decision on change the database backend to
Firebird, has been taken, look in:

https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Development/GSoC/Ideas#Support_for_Firebird_Database_in_Base
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=51780

In the first link is clearly explained what are the reasons for change
"causes severe performance problems primarily around the frequency of Java

If you want to see the thread in Marketing then try using Nabble.  you wont be

I wouldn't recommend it though as i got a pasting about it.  Again.  To be fair

LibreOffice typically does this in the page styles.

I would know of no way (apart from automating) to change the setting for

When the setting is changed for all your new documents, then you may

That might be the issue here.
MATE and Cinnamon are the desktops for people who liked GNOME 2.x

went to Mint Linux and other distros to get away from Unity. Mint

from Ubuntu. I stuck with Ubuntu, but chose MATE desktop environment.

it may be a MATE issue, or may not.
So I ask if any MATE or Cinnamon desktop users are having the same

It is a little difficult to say since you did not say what
version of LibreOffice you had installed on the two systems. That
is likely to be important. Also from where did you download
LibreOffice 4.0.3?
I have installed 4.0.3.3 (Debian 64 Bit) that I downloaded

this might have been because I already had 4.0.3.2 installed.

I had a different problem with the 13.04 Ubuntu I have on my

But on my Ubuntu 12.04 desktop, I had the problem withthe loss of

LO seems to remember it somewhere. If I set it back to what it should be when I

Honestly in this case it's unlikely that the DE is the issue as this is
really just an installation bug and the front end of Linux (DE)
shouldn't affect this one bit. There was work done for Unity for Unity
integration but this wouldn't affect installation at all.

This being said, what I would recommend is reporting a bug as this would
indeed be a bug, over at https://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/bug/. Make
sure to include exact steps (even if they seem basic), what you
observed, and what you expected. Include your system info (including
distro, DE, etc...) and LibreOffice versions. Also include the
extensions you had installed and which ones (or all) disappeared.

This way someone from QA (possibly myself) will look into the bug. I
have a debian based machine but it uses Enlightenment, I suspect that
this wouldn't cause any difference for installation issues so -- I
should be able to test.

Best,
Joel

Re: [libreoffice-users] Base data-loss and other problems

2013-05-10 Thread Ian Whitfield

Hi All

Tom says ...

I'm fairly sure that quite a few people have had troubles with the internal
back-end that were solved by 'just' moving to an external back-end. I vaguely
remember someone even suffering data-loss using the embedded/internal back-end.
Was there a bug-report? Should people be encouraged to stick with the
internal/embedded back-end or warned off from it?

And Hank replied ...

My experience with the embedded database in Base has convinced me to move
to an external back-end. I have had several instances of data loss
particularly during sessions of heavy data input.
While I'm in the process of moving my database to an external H2 database,
I still use the embedded database carefully, however. I backup the embedded
database before adding data, sparingly or working with the Report Writer.
Both of these activitie have resulted in data loss in the past. I still
like Base as a front end, however.

I have to agree with you 200% Tom - and if some people don't like it -
too bad!!

IT'S TRUE!! - The 'Embedded engine/Base Front End' combination is a
disaster!! I have been using Base for about 7 years now and had nothing
but problems. It's slow, crashes all the time, freezes etc etc and
FREQUENTLY takes the data file with it when it crashes. The only
recourse is to back-up all the time, (several times each session), so
that you can get back at your data and be prepared to enter stuff more
than once during a busy session.

Because of this I HAVE LOST and/or had to re-enter data time and time
again!!

This is supported by Hank above I see, (and I'm sure many others)!!

Late last year I converted to MySQL as the Backend and Base as the Front
End. WHAT A DIFFERENCE As I said to people it's like getting out of
your old broken-down, unreliable Beetle and driving around in the latest
Rolls Royce!! Solid, fast, never crashes and is just fantastic!!

I'm currently running BOTH set-ups, on two different machines
side-by-side, for cross checking purposes and the difference is
startling when you do this. The one is slow and plodding, (and still
crashes), and the other "just works" - and fast!!

IMHO the current engine in Base should be dropped, (or fixed), and a
change made to make stand-alone Base of any serious use.
I saw recently a mention of wanting to do this and change top Firebird!!
(??)

For now I'm VERY happy with my 'MySQL/Base combination!!

Best wishes

How did you "change you printer settings"?

Did you set the "Properties > Paper > Paper Tray" or did you set it
through the openSUSE's version of Ubuntu's "System > Administration>

Hi :)
It might be good to keep the discussion to this thread on the Users List for
now.  Lets see what other people say and what bug-reports you find about this.
Perhaps move it up the "chain of command" after that.  I've just noticed that
we have been cross-posting all this time.  it's better to stick to 1 list at a
time for most things.

"- so I don't see the reason to recursively (!!!) substitute the "%"
character when an URL is input in LibreOffice because "%" itself is
already an accepted one;"

A big +1 to that!  I don't know why it's being done either.  It makes no sense
that it happens that way.

%25 is the code for a % symbol so the 'wrong' link is not really wrong
after all.  It's just a bit odd and unnecessary.  In the 'wrong' link
replace all the %25s with % so that %2520 becomes %20 and then the
apparently 'wrong' link looks right.  It's a good reason for avoiding
spaces and non-standard characters in Urls.  CamelCase is much less prone
 to these sorts of problems.

Seems a few other organisations are having trouble with %25 replacing %

LibreOffice typically does this in the page styles.

I would know of no way (apart from automating) to change the setting for
all documents and such.

When the setting is changed for all your new documents, then you may
have to set/change the default template.

Did you have a look at Tools > Outline numbering?
There you can link the levels to the styles of your choise.
(As remarked by others, Heading 1, ..2, ..3 are default. But that's not
mandatory.)

And make sure that the individual paragraph styles that you use have no
settings on the Numbering tab!

All works like this for as long as I know LibreOffice ;-)

Re: [libreoffice-users] Table of Contents woes

2013-05-10 Thread Tom Davies
Hi :)
Heading 1a is non-standard so it is something that someone has added.  Probably
you while you were learning about styles by experimentation (which is a valid
way to learn but dipping into the chapter at the same time makes it more
optimal).

>From what little i understand various styles should be linked in some way so

Having said all that it might well be best to upgrade to the 4.0.3 first.  The
x.x.3 is the equivalent of Service Pack 3 and is usually the point where a
branch becomes suddenly much more stable.  The 4.0.x has been more stable than
earlier releases for me and i upgraded early because of it but normally i would
wait for the x.x.3.  After that putting the time into fixing the problem is
more likely to mean it stays fixed.

Somewhere on the icon-bar is a backwards P which does show formatting marks but
that doesn't show styles.  It does tend to give hints about where things might
have gone wrong but the napalm option is probably the fastest way to fix this.

Tom :)

Hi :)
Can you start with a fresh new document created in 4.0.2?  Then copy&paste in
the contents and formatting from the old document.  See if that works.  Ideally
it would be great to start a fresh document and do all the formatting from
scratch to avoid pulling in some old problems but the copy&paste might be
enough to leave behind any old unwanted stuff.

I found that with documents that had originally been in MS formats i kept on
bumping into weird problems.  Then again going from 3.3.x to 3.4.x but since
then i've not had any problems.

I basically re-use an older document to save as a new one.

Most of the time one of the following happens:

a) when I change just the numerical digits of the value,
the cell is no longer detected as numerical (and thus
counts as 0, detectable by the wrong sum in a SUM field

prefix found in the cell as text now.

b) the 'S$' prefix gets lost and the value stands naked.

Trying to correct this by selecting the value and
applying
Table/Number format/selecting 'SGD' and
   pressing ENTER often does nothing.

Neither does selecting a different cell that still has the
correct format applied, selecting the brush and trying
to brush the format back into the cell that was screwed u.

It takes me usually several minutes to clean out the cells
and try to correct everything.

It gets worse when I need to add or delete a row from the
table and thus reapply the format to the new row or such.

Is there no way to 'fix' the format for those cells, so that
editing cannot screw up the format?

Currency formatting in LO seems to be really broken :(

I'm using
Version 4.0.2.2 (Build ID: 4c82dcdd6efcd48b1d8bba66bfe1989deee49c3)
TinderBox: MacOSX TDF Release, Branch:libreoffice-4-0, Time:
2013-03-26_15:52:16

   Suggestion:
1) Open the document in Writer.
2) Format the cells that will contain currency amounts. (Right click
such a cell. Select Number Format from the context
menu. Select Currency in the Category list. In the Format list,
select the format you want to use. Click OK.)

3) Save the document as a template (File > Save Templates).

Now when you want to write an invoice, open this template, enter
the data the invoice should have, and save the invoice.

Thanks, Tom. It does seem like there's more than one style applied, but
I don't know how to check that. Is there a way to display hidden
characters (would that show styles?) or other way I could see what's
going on? The napalm approach would be to remove all styles for the
document and then re-apply them. Maybe I'll try that on a portion of a
copy.

Does anyone know what the Heading 1a style is for? Is it possible I
created it a year ago when I started this document? I don't recall
doing that. I'll take a look at the styles section of the manual as
it's about time I really learned how to use them. A PITA to learn but I
can see it's the best way to go.

Here's a little more info:
Heading 1a is level 1 in this documnt (not indented even thought this
section header IS in fact indented)
Heading 1a is linked with Contents 2 (which is supposed to be level 2 I
think)

So two questions. First, could this be part of the trouble? Second, I
was considering upgrading to LO 4, and in case my styles got scrogged,
is there a way to upgrade while removing any styles I may have created?
I'm sure I can re-apply the Draft style watermark which is the only
custom style I intentionally use.

Thanks,
Carl

Also i'm not sure if just solving the problem in LibreOffice would

Nope not possible, at least how far I know :)

Hi Vieri

The form you've created contains a set of controls of which
one or more of
them are of the "Text box" variety.

You may also have other controls on the form such as a
"Check Box", "Label" or
"Push Button" these latter controls don't have the ability
to hold text or
edit text so don't have the .Text property. So for these
controls the code
x.Text will fail.

Try this

Sub EnumerateFields

 oDoc = ThisComponent
 oDrawPage = oDoc.DrawPage
 oForm = oDrawPage.Forms.GetByIndex(0)
   For i = 0 To oForm.getCount()-1
  x =
oForm.getByIndex(i)
  if
x.supportsService("com.sun.star.form.component.TextField")
then

Print x.getName() & " : " & x.Text

End If

   Next

End Sub

Thanks Iain.
Your help is much appreciated. The macro works.
Now I'm trying to send HTTPS POST requests to my web server (not succeeding but
that's another story).
i use a "create a Windows" object to do the posting

[libreoffice-users] Currency format always gets lost/screwed up

2013-05-10 Thread Mathias Koerber
I am using Libreoffice to write invoices.

I have a table with several fields that need to be formatted
as currency (SGD).

I basically re-use an older document to save as a new one.
Then I change the values.

Most of the time one of the following happens:

a) when I change just the numerical digits of the value,
the cell is no longer detected as numerical (and thus
counts as 0, detectable by the wrong sum in a SUM field
further down). It seems that it converts the old 'S$'
prefix found in the cell as text now.

b) the 'S$' prefix gets lost and the value stands naked.

Re: [tdf-discuss] Re: [libreoffice-users] [4.0.3.3 non fixed bug] Link with a space Pdf export error (%20 characters - space ones - exported as %2520 ones)

2013-05-10 Thread Carlo Strata

Hi Everyone,

as I told yesterday in my first mail I will look for an already created
issue and if not I will create it. When I make this? Now! ;-)

In any case I will make you know what I do.

@Tom:

I think that:
- on URLs, browsers - but maybe a behaviour stated on a well determined
W3 Standard or similar open Consortium - substitute spaces with %20 hex
character code;
- %20 (!!!): that means that "%", "2" and "0" are all (!) well admitted
characters, all (!!!);
- so I don't see the reason to recursively (!!!) substitute the "%"
character when an URL is input in LibreOffice because "%" it self is
already an accepted one;
- another low probability hypotheses in my head was that LibreOffice
translate the space on a full 16 bit space character coding, but your
explain about %25 representing the "%" hex code, rapidly make me clear
what was happened;
- in any case (!), if you open the with-space link directly from a
Writer document (ctrl+click for friends o chaps ;-) ) you will get the
right page: in other words the link behave correctly! So the problem on
pdf link behaviour has to be fixed in LibreOffice too!!! :-) But I do
not think is a too hard to do, is not it?

Now I will go to open or vote an existing issue and come back here soon.
I think we could also to maintain only one discuss: I will suggest the
tdf-discuss one, what do you think about?

Have All a sunny day,

Carlo

Hi :)
%25 is the code for a % symbol so the 'wrong' link is not really wrong after
all. It's just a bit odd and unnecessary. In the 'wrong' link replace all the
%25s with % so that %2520 becomes %20 and then the apparently 'wrong' link
looks right. It's a good reason for avoiding spaces and non-standard
characters in Urls. CamelCase is much less prone to these sorts of problems.

Seems a few other organisations are having trouble with %25 replacing %

Hi Everyone and sorry for my long silence!

I have not read the mailing list for a long, but I am always here to
use, test, update and spread LibreOffice! ;-)

Since 4.x versions - but maybe since before:

1. if you create a new writer document and copy in it a with-space-link
like this:
http://support.mozilla.org/it/kb/Informazioni%20su%20Firefox%20Sync
2. save the document;
3. export the document in pdf with the default settings;
4. open the exported pdf;
5. click on the clickable link;
6. you will get this wrong link instead:
http://support.mozilla.org/it/kb/Informazioni%2520su%2520Firefox%2520Sync
7. if you open that link from the odt (as usual with a ctrl+click) you
get instead the right link and the browser open correctly!
8. if you leave your mouse cursor on the link both on the pdf and the
odt documents you will get a correct title yellow lable ("tooltip") too!
9. I finally think there is a bug on the pdf export module.
10. This is the same if you create the above document with the Insert ->
Hypertext link menu function.

I have tested this on each new testing release, but only today I have
found the mental time to write this mail.
I am also going to search if there is a related issue yet and if not, as
I used in

I tried setting it in spadmin but the LO apps ignore it
I tried removed ~/.config/libreoffice and that doesn't work
