Re: [libreoffice-users] AOO for Android - not worth the download
About capabilities: I don't fully agree I'd like to do everything on a tablet like I would on a laptop, but as the capabilities and possibilities from the hardware keeps improving, I'd indeed go for the full version. But perhaps there should be a possibility to use it in r/o, light or full mode? I'd choose light, where I can make some annotations to an existing text, but where I don't have a need to create a pivottable. Re: [libreoffice-users] Mint 14 and Libre Office 3.6
Hi :) 1st thing worth knowing is that uninstall-reinstall does not get back to factory defaults and seldom fixes problems. it does fix things sometimes but not very often. Programs upgrade so often now that finding all your settings and configurations have been wiped just due to a reinstall would be a major pain. So instead, programs are starting to use a User Profile to keep such things safe. Renaming your User Profile is often a good way to get back to factory defaults https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Documentation/UserProfile 2nd is that LibreOffice develops so fast that it's often a good idea to install a more recent version than whatever you get given by default in most OSes. It's one of the few programs that is best to download from upstream and install that rather than just use your package manager to get whatever 'old' version they happen to have in their repos. 3rd is that probably the easiest way to fix this problem is to use the command-line to uninstall all LibreOffice components and then just use the package-manager to reinstall whichever is in the repos (sorry, i know that contradicts 2.) So, can you get to a command-line and try this command sudo apt-get autoremove libreoffice* you might also need to try sudo apt-get autoremove libreoffice*.* Errr, when people give advice on mailing list and in forums it's generally easier for them to show commands than to run through a series of open this and click that and in the pop-up click this tab and that button. Different distros look very different on the surface and people configure things differently or use different packages but on the command-line the same commands work the same way or else only need a tiny but obvious tweaks to work across all versions of GnuLinux. However, it's a good idea to be wary of following advice too quickly without checking it yourself first. Generally in forums and mailing lists other people will respond fairly quickly if they see bad advice to warn you off doing it but sometimes that might arrive too late. You can check what commands do, or at least get a quick cheat-sheet about a command just by adding the tag --help or -h (the -h is the older version and is being gradually replaced by --help but there are still quite a few programs that still use -h). Luckily if you use the 'wrong' one you still get the same quick cheat-sheet. So, you can check my suggestions by trying this on the command-line sudo --help another neat trick on the command-line is that if you press the keyboard's up-arrow then the last command you typed re-appears and you can edit that. That works even if you have just rebooted your computer or shut it down fully and then switched it on. You can go back quite a long way that way. In this case you might try pressing it just once and edit the command to say sudo apt-get --help Now you can probably see why i suggest autoremove rather than the purge that often gets suggested. Finally, you can go back to your package manager and reinstall whichever version happens to be in the distros repositories. 4th The best way, but probably not the easiest, to fix the problem is to download a more recent version from upstream at the LibreOffice website and follow these instructions (except use autoremove instead of purge ;) ) http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/installation/linux/ The download is here http://www.libreoffice.org/download/ Regards from Tom :) From: Tony Bestwick tony.bestw...@gmail.com To: users@global.libreoffice.org Sent: Monday, 24 June 2013, 10:01 Subject: [libreoffice-users] Mint 14 and Libre Office 3.6 Hi, can anyone help please? [libreoffice-users] Re: LO 4.0.4.1 crashes when running a report
Hi :) Thanks for that link Stuart! I didn't realise older versions were still available. :) The official pages try to reduce the chance of confusion by removing choices. Even so people do get very confused very easily. Confusion is always going to be a problem for gateway projects that may well be the first, or one of the first, OpenSource projects that people use. When given choices that suit different circumstances people tend to ask but which is best then whatever answer is given they grumble that it's all too confusing. A rough equivalent would be going to a shop to buy a dress and finding 2 identical except one is green and one is red and then grumbling because the shop assistant is unable to tell you which is best. LibreOffice has to try to avoid confusing 'customers' like that. Re: [libreoffice-users] Mint 14 and Libre Office 3.6
Tony I remember that there were some printing issues with several of the 3.6.x versions. Mint, along with other Debian based distros do not often include the most up-to-date version of package in their repository. I would upgrade to either the last version of the 3.6 line - 3.6.6, or remove the package, and upgrade to 4.0.4. Your printer issues may be solved by going to the hidden [dot folder] config folder for LO and rename it. .libreoffice or .config/libreoffice I do not remember when LO changed from one to the other. By renaming the folder and then reopening LO, it will create a new config folder from scratch, but then you will have to add the personalized touches to LO, like user info and add on extensions. You can do this using the ISNA() function, using something like: =IF(ISNA(VLOOKUP(Xn;array;2;0));0;VLOOKUP(Xn;array;2;0)) or, more simply, (new in LO 4): =IFNA(VLOOKUP(Xn;array;2;0);0) I trust this helps. Re: [libreoffice-users] printer paper size question
I do not know about that printer anymore. It has been a while since I had a laser 4. But, my HP 2300dn has 48 MG of memory and sometimes the graphics/document gives me and not enough memory type of error. Do you have the ability to add more memory? You are printing envelopes, right? Are you using the Format Page Paper - Format DL envelope and then deal with it from there? I would format the page to the envelope I wanted instead of doing it on the printer side of the process. Also, there may be something in your profile that might be causing some issues with the printer. This has happened to be from time to time with LO and the OOo before that. I use Ubuntu 12.04 with MATE desktop environment. printers - in use: HP Laserjet 2300dn, HP inkjet 7000, Canon MG6220 printers on the shelf - Epson Artisan 810, several HP inkjets, plus 2 DELL inkjets. use to have HP 2600 color laser and a HP Laser 4 plus[?] but are dead now. so I have a bit of experience with printers. Thank you Regards Fred James Kracked_P_P Thank you for your reply. I shall answer your question, but first to clarify the question: This question is not about workarounds or the mismatch of user interface and locale settings, but rather: Why, if LibreOffice knows the paper is US letter, does inserted envelope default to DL? Wouldn't it be more reasonable to expect a match between paper and envelope size as the default? Or is this not possible/reasonable? By the way, I did not have this issue under Apache OOo under Mageia 2. A second question, if I may: What do each of the settings control (user interface, and locale)? Answering your questions: Memory: not an issue with LibreOffice ... sometime with websites and some PDF's ... Ran OK under Apache OpenOffice, too. Memory: printer is maxed out. Envelope: printing fine Format Page Paper - Format DL envelope? No, I am doing it through File - Printer Settings Doing it through Format gives a nice result, too, if one remembers to set it to landscape And either method can be saved/applied to the document Thanks again Regards Fred James -- To unsubscribe e-mail to: users+unsubscr...@global.libreoffice.org Problems? http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/how-to-unsubscribe/ Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/global/users/ All messages sent to this list will be publicly archived and cannot be deleted
[libreoffice-users] Writer shows background images not arranged in back as when opened in Word
Is there any way to fix this issue for lots of documents? This is a big pain as my employer has all their docs with large background logo images, and now it obscures all text in the documents. See attached screenshot and test example.
