Re: [libreoffice-users] template menu

2013-07-04 Thread Virgil Arrington
I confess that I don't understand this type of "improvement" in software
development. It's sort of like when MS decided that users couldn’t
understand the Windows menu structure that had been used for two decades and
gave us the ribbon.

The LO/OO method of organizing templates has been around for...what, ten ...
fifteen years now? If I'm not mistaken it goes all the way back to
StarOffice. Long time users have grown accustomed to it. So, what would
prompt someone to think it needs fixing? Was there a survey showing that a
ton of new people would suddenly start using LO if it would only change its
"goofy" way of organizing templates?

I know people are always resistant to change; it took me a couple years to
abandon DOS in favor of Windows. And, over time, I may get to like the new
template menu placement (if I ever reinstall LO 4 after going back to
3.6.6).

But to change a working menu structure just because we can? I just don't get
it.

Hi Thomas,

I have to admit this confused me also. I don't know whether you can
simply "organize" anymore. From the manual:

To begin, choose *File > **New > **Templates***from the Menu bar to
   openthe Template Manager dialog.

http://www.odfauthors.org/libreoffice/english/writer-guide/published-lo-4.0/wg4-0-ch10-templates/view

At this point you can add, modify, delete and move!

Cheers

One of my computers has still 3.6 on it and there it is under Files ->
Templates.
That's also where the extension items for the extension "template
changer" appeared.

After along search I found, that the template changer can now only be
found in an unmarked grave
= empty white space with a black triangle at its right margin BELOW File

But so far I was not able to find anything like Templates -> Organize
anywhere.

Where is this now???
Or has the software advanced so far, that creating, deleting, organizing
templates etc. is now a thing of the past?

Thank you.

The opening screen contains a "Templates..." icon that opens the Template
Manager. I presume the developers considered the availablity of the
capability to manage templates here and in the File->New->Templates
sufficient and eliminated what they considered a redundant approach.

[libreoffice-users] Features Request

2013-07-04 Thread Δημήτριος Δεσύλλας

Hello Iibre Ofice Community,

I would like to propose some features nad some changes that I think that
is good to have the Libre Office. This came from comparison from MS
Ofice and Libre Ofice that I have on my computer at work.

First of all I think to think some way to store big files quicly. I
noticed this when I had a Huge presentation file that I use to make
logos and the whole application went white. I know it is expected to
take a while when storing large files but at MS Ofice when I made some
changes on it ans stored it it took quicker than libre office. Also I
notice when I had 2 windows of Libre Ofice Impress when I was storing
the fine on the one and waited to stole both of windows were stuck and
did not allowed me to do any work. I think it is a good way is to make
some sort of sandboxing beween the windows. I mean each window of Libre
ofice to be a seperate process so when on window of libre office Impress
crashes to allow me to use the other window of Impress.

I also I want to know where I can post my ideas for libre ofice so it
can be more usefull to end users. So in that way to contribute into it.
Also I want to know how much time do libre ofice developers spend on
improving on libre ofice and also I want to knwo if Document foundation
is hiring. Because I want to offer some hand to this project. And I want
to know because when working free time is essential asnd I want to spend
some time on contributing on this project on the future eves as
volunteer or even better as hired developer.

[libreoffice-users]

2013-07-04 Thread April Preston
Hello, Could use some help. A couple weeks ago my daughter opened a document
she had saved to Microsoft Word on a flash drive. Ever since then every time I
open a LibreOffice document, whether a saved document or a new document, or in
writer or math, I get a pop up window that says LibreOffice Document Recovery.
Listed is the document my daughter opened on my computer. I am requested to
Start Recovery, which I do then I get a pop up that says Recovery Failed and I
am instructed to push the finish button. Then I am able to continue normally.
This is really annoying. Last tonight I downloaded LibreOffice 4 hoping the
overwrite would end the problem, but no luck. Can I get help to remedy this?
Btw- My operating system is Windows 8.

Thank you,

April

When the document recovery pops up, just disregard it and do not try to
recover it, this is what sets up the next recovery attempt the next time
you launch writer. This refusal should stop the recovery cycles.

Opera used to use their own proprietary engine and have since version 15
switched over to some webkit thing similar to (or the same as) Chromium
uses.

In case you are not joking, today, July 4th, is our Independence Day, a

Maybe you Brits try to forget that day, July 4, 1776. ;-)

[libreoffice-users] LibreOffice Writer 4.- Where's my horizontal line?

2013-07-04 Thread April Preston
Hello,

My question may seem trivial but I am looking for the horizontal line that I
had in the 3.6 version but cannot find in the 4. version. It is a horizontal
line within the header. I understand now I am to go to Format, then Page, then
select the Header tab, then the button that says More. When I get there I don’t
see a choice for just a horizontal line; just outside borders and no bottom
border. The selection appears to be much more limited as well. So if I want
my horizontal line in the header back must I uninstall LibreOffice 4 and
reinstall 3.6 or is it hidden somewhere?

Thanks much,

April Preston

Re: [libreoffice-users]

2013-07-04 Thread anne-ology
There are a couple of possibilities -

have you cleaned out the cache?
if not; well, CCleaner is a top program - & free for the
individual user

did she perchance not save it? - for whatever reason.
if not, it's sitting in the recent document list - unsaved &
wanting to be saved ;-)
THEREFORE clear the recent list and/or just that document
from the list;
to clear the list, you must go to the LO section in
the computer -
[AppData -> Roaming -> LO -> locate recent documents]
to clear that document, just right-click on it -> and
delete it from the list.

Well, that's worked for me in the past -
here's hoping it will work for you as well.

[libreoffice-users] Triage Contest - Final Day

2013-07-04 Thread Joel Madero

Hi All,

We've reached the final day of our great contest. I have to say that the
goal that was set was incredibly ambitious (just a reminder, 25% of
bugs) - and guess what, WE ARE WITHIN REACH OF THIS GOAL! We're
currently sitting at 901 bugs - I think 25% needs us down to 890. Really
really great work everyone, hope everyone finds some time on this last
day to get a few more bugs triaged.

I'll be out of town for the next 3-4 days so I will not be
pariticipating this last day but really a big thank you to everyone who
did and I hope you all continue to contribute going forward - and of
course for anyone who didn't participate, we'd love to have you jump
into the chat and get involved.

For those of you who haven't seen the #'s or are just interested in QA
and what we do, feel free to take a look at the blog at:
https://joelmadero.wordpress.com/

For all new contributors who participated in good faith (you know who
you are ;) ) -- please send me privately your mailing address as well as
the tshirt size which you would like me to order. Joren, Robinson and
myself will be tallying numbers next week (might take 2 weeks or so) and
then get the top 3 contestants + the first 10 new contributors a tshirt.
If you weren't in the first 10, please still get me your info - I'm
going to try to get my hands on the funds to get a couple more shirts
together -- no promises :)

Warm Regards,
Joel
