[libreoffice-users] Copy & paste -> extra space

2013-09-16 Thread Thomas Blasejewicz
Hello everybody

I noticed that when I copy & paste single words or phrases, that MOST -
but not ALL - times an additional space is added before the pasted
word/phrase.
Let's say, I type an opening quotation mark and then copy some text
immediately after it. Even though I selected precisely one word without
any spaces, after pasting there is ALMOST ALWAYS an extra space in front
of it.
(Sometimes not, but I was not yet able to figure out why and under which
conditions this happens.)

In the example above:
" test ..."
Then I have to go back and delete that extra space manually.
Very annoying!

Is there a way to change this behavior?

Thank you in advance
Thomas

sorry you forgot to backup that file somehow.

I am rebuilding a desktop back after the primary drive failed and I did
not have 1 to 2 weeks of work on the backups, and "certain" config files
were missed in the backup "process". The drive died the day I was
scheduled to backup the work for that week or so. Now I have a new
drive, double the size, but still working on getting all of those bits
and pieces of packages and utility configuration back to where it should be.

And this is precisely why backups should always be *automated*.

Which one should also test on a regular basis, at least I know I should
but I don't, at least not often enough.

Re: [libreoffice-users] Open Office - off topic - removing bullets toolbar

2013-09-16 Thread Tom Davies
Hi :)
Oh, i just dragged the toolbar onto the end of one that is always there.  So
when the toolbar appears it is "docked" safely out of the way instead of just
somewhere in the middle of the document.

I've done something similar with most of the toolbars that pop-up.
Regards from
Tom :)

Er, wouldn't it be easier to ask on the equivalent OpenOffice Users list?!

This may depend on your version of OpenOffice, but try this:
o Wait until the Bullets and Numbering toolbar appears.
o Don't close it using the "X" close button; instead go to View |
Toolbars > | Bullets and Numbering to remove the tick.

You should find that the toolbar will no longer appear automatically.

I trust this helps.

I imagine that this is by design: if you paste multiple single words,
for example, they will be separated by spaces (and thus easier to
handle) instead of being concatenated. Typically, pasting words is
most commonly used to insert a word into a sentence - when spaces
would be welcome.

Is there a way to change this behavior?

Yes: as so often, Paste Special is your friend! Use Edit | Paste
Special... (or Ctrl+Shift+V) instead of ordinary Paste. In the Paste
Special dialogue, select either "Unformatted text" or "Formatted text
[RTF]" (if you want to retain formatting).

Incidentally, I wondered why I hadn't encountered this problem, and I
see I was probably using what would be another workaround in your
example. You are likely to need a closing quotation mark after your
word or phrase, of course. If you type this immediately after the
opening quotation mark and only then paste in the word, you appear
not to get any unhelpful extra spaces.

I trust this helps.

Re: [libreoffice-users] EMail mailmerge - does it work?

2013-09-16 Thread Don C. Myers

Hi Fabian,

I started using mail merge using OpenOffice approximately 10 years ago
using base and writer. As I recall, I set up the writer label forms
without using the wizard. There were several minor issues I dealt with
back then, but since then it has worked perfectly. I do have Java
installed. Once LibreOffice was released, I moved from OpenOffice to
LibreOffice. If you are having problems with it working, perhaps folks
on this list can help you getting it working if you describe the issues.

Hi

In the past I had used the email mailmerge features in LibreOffice with
some problems, and was wondering if it works now?

I still see it in the menus but before setting up a proper data source
and going throught the wizard I just wanted to ask here. I seem to
remember it depended on Java and it would be removed or rewritten at
some point.

Thanks for any information about this.

Fabian

[libreoffice-users] Macro from command line: ThisComponent.CurrentController not found

2013-09-16 Thread greyspammer
Hello!

I have a macro which I want to be executed whenever a Writer document is
being converted to a PDF. So I wrote my macro and assigned it to the
appropriate event. And it works. At least, from within a running
GUI-Session.

If I try to do the conversion via command line, I get this error message:
<- snip ->
BASIC runtime error.
Property or method not found: CurrentController
<- snap ->

The command I use to invoke LibreOffice is:
<- snip ->
lowriter --convert-to pdf:writer_pdf_Export test.odt
<- snap ->

It is later planned to have it run in headless mode on a machine with no X
server, but I removed those options to get an error message.

I assume that in this mode, there is no "CurrentController" (because there
is no Writer window?) and hence, the error. But what can I do about it?
Create one myself? How?

System is Kubuntu 13.04 with LibreOffice 4.0.2.

for printing to PDF i assume there must be a "opened" document (who can
been hidden) as soon the document is open it becomes "ThisComponent" who
has its "CurrentController"

Hope it helps
