What do you mean by "Primitive"?

Why can not those languages be supported in LO?

I do not know of a Turkmen dictionary, but I know that there is a Kazakh
one.

Kazakh - ?

The key to any spell checking dictionary, is the word list .dic file.
The more words in that list, the better.

There is an American English with over 797,000 words in its word list.
It is not the default installed one, but it is available to add on to
LO, if wanted.

There are several Russian dictionaries that can be installed
post-install of LO. How well they work, well I do not read Russian [
??? ]

Here is the list of dictionaries, and such, that I know of. There are a
lot of them.
http://libreoffice-na.us/English-4.0-installs/dictionary.html

The ones here may have a few that are more up-to-day.
http://extensions.libreoffice.org/extension-center

I have to update some of the files in the "-NA.US" site list when I get
the time.

[libreoffice-users] LO Base - Pushbutton on Form not working.

2013-09-30 Thread Ian Whitfield

Hi All

After some time working on other aspects of my Database I'm back to
trying to get a Pushbutton working to open a SubForm.

PClinuxOS 2013.08; LO Base 4.1.1.2; MySQL 5.1.55

My Database - "FSNew"
Tables - "Members" & "Story"
Forms - "FSNew.Members" & "FSNew.Story"

The Pushbutton on the Members Form has the event -
"Mouse Button Pressed - Standard.Story.OpenForm" .

On Clicking on the Button in the Members Form I get the error -

"A Scripting Framework error occurred while running the Basic script
vnd.sun.star.script:Standard.Story.OpenForm?language=Basic&location=document.

Message: The following Basic script could not be found:

Can someone decipher this for me please?? Thanks!!

The FAQ is maintained on a daily basis by the French team, so the items

Yes, it's a wiki, so don't hesitate to put your hands on if you see

Calc still needs some love, a lot of items are missing, that I'll take
care during the next months. Clayton is currently working on Impress
when he has time. Any help is appreciated, most of the screen shots in
Writer FAQ are still in French for example.

They are immensely more primitive than MSO ones, though. Just compare the
English or Russian dictionaries with ORFO's ones. Also, you can have a
spellchecker for any language in MSO, like Kazakh or Turkmen. Those
dictionaries cannot be supported in LO.

Hi :)
I'm CCing the international translators list in one this because they are more
likely to know technical details about such FUD.

Urmas seems to contradict what is seen on the downloads page
https://www.libreoffice.org/download/?type=win-x86&version=4.1.1&lang=pick
Kazakh is clearly listed.  So all the menus and pop-up dialogues and everything
can be set to use Kazakh instead of English (US).  Also there are tons of
RightToLeft languages as well as LTR ones.  I'm not sure if it handles
BottomToTop but we seem to have at least one listed.

Ok, so that doesn't have much to do with whether a spell-checker would work but
surely all a spell-checker requires is
1.  the spell-checker engine itself.
2.  That the language has a font and can be displayed on-screen
3.  a dictionary

The spell checker seems to work fine on most languages.  I'm not sure why you
think it wouldn't work with another 2.  We have seen there is a font for it and
that it can display well on-screen.  Dictionaries can be created as they are
really just lists of words (ok, ideally very, very long lists but they could be
quite short to start with because words can easily be added by users
(right-click and "Add to dictionary"))

Tom :)

[libreoffice-users] North America Pub Chat

2013-09-30 Thread Joel Madero
Hi All,

I hope this email finds everyone doing well. I would like to propose
another North America QA pub chat (this time I may even bring a beer) for
next Friday (the 11th) at the same time (12:00pm EST). If we can get at
least 5 people I think it's worth catching up, see what everyone has been
up to, get an update from Robinson's trip to Milan (yes, Robinson went to
the conference in Milanhe'll make sure to rub it in our face about how
amazing it was), and anything else that comes to mind.

Like always this chat is open to everyone, just the time is set up so that
it's functional for us in North America to make without having to wake up
at 5am.

If you're interested please respond letting me know so that I can get a
head count. If it reaches 5, Robinson and I will work on a tentative agenda
but I'd like this one to be more interactive than the last :)

All the Best,
Joel

[libreoffice-users] Using Lightning with Google Calendar | How to | Thunderbird

2013-09-30 Thread James Knott
Occasionally on this list, someone asks about open source email &
calendar that can be used with LibreOffice. Here are instructions for
using Google Calendar with Thunderbird. You can use the Thunderbird
Add-Ons manager to install both Lightning and "Provider for Google
Calendar", instead of going to a web site and downloading the package.
This also works with the email program in Seamonkey, but Thunderbird
works better with LO.

T Lee Davidson wrote:

I am using LibreOffice Version 4.0.4.2 on Mageia 3 (Linux). The Export

I created a simple (text-only plus background) six-slide presentation
with all but the first slide set to automatically advance after just a
few seconds. The slide show works when I preview it. But, exporting it
to SWF creates a file of just 20kb. I'm pretty sure that can't be a
valid Flash file. And, none of my video players (VLC, Dragon, & XINE)
will play it.

Flash is not just a video format but also includes scripting. It's
designed for embedding in web pages, and although it can be used to show
videos on a web page, I'm not sure that dedicated video applications
would necessarily play it. Have you tried opening the Flash file in a
web browser? Do VLC, Dragon and XINE play any other Flash videos?

I've just done a quick test (LibreOffice 4.0.4.2 on Windows Vista) with
3 text-only slides, exported to SWF (file is <1kB, so 20kB certainly
could be valid):
- Opening the .swf in Mozilla SeaMonkey (web browser) works, but doesn't
seem to do the automatic transitions - need to click to advance through
slides.
- VLC does not open this file. As far as I can see VLC should be able to
play "Flash Video" files, which have a .flv extension and are not the
same as .swf (e.g. .flv doesn't appear to include the scripting
capabilities of .swf).
- I'm not familiar with Dragon, and think XINE is Linux-only, but
suspect they probably just don't play .swf either.

[libreoffice-users] Corrupt Installer Errors??

2013-09-30 Thread contrazz
I've tried to install LibreOffice and the Help on two computers where I work.
The computers both complain that the main installer is not a valid installer

unlikely to be true, but I'm checking to see whether there have been similar
problems reported by others. If no one else is having trouble, I'll hassle
the IT department here ... I'm suspicious that it's getting hosed on this
end, somehow ...

Re: [libreoffice-users] Corrupt Installer Errors??

2013-09-30 Thread Tom Davies
Hi :)
It's more likely the download process that went wonky somehow.  Can you do an
Md5sum or Sha check on the download to see if you did get it all?  Firefox and
some other web-browsers are better than others at coping with downloads that
got interrupted but the best and easiest way to make sure the download is
perfect is to torrent it as that performs constant checks on the quality of the
download as it's doing the downloading.  Have you used a torrent before?

I would probably chicken out and not bother with any of that just yet.  First i
would just re-download again and see if the new download installs any better on
just 1 machine.  If that works then use it on others  If the 2nd download also
seemed bad then i would try some of the things i suggested in the 1st paragraph.
Regards from
Tom :)

That is a given. LO uses hunspell itself, but integrates also with other
engines like for example the Mac Os X one.

> 2. That the language has a font and can be displayed on-screen

That is not a requirement for the spell checker, only one for the human in
front of the screen.

Exactly. And there it depends strongly on the structure of the language how
complex that dictionary has to be.

Well, they could be list of words, but this is inefficient. In reality they
consist of patterns and rules to modify those patterns/stems.

Re: [libreoffice-users] Corrupt Installer Errors??

2013-09-30 Thread Ruth Ann
I had that same problem when I tried to install LO on both my new
computer and on a new laptop.
I had also been having problems with my internet connection while trying
to set up the new computer.

So, when the install did not work on either computer, I tried
downloading the program with a different WiFi network, and this time I
got different errors, but it would still not install on either computer.

So then I got the idea to download from a different web site, and this
time it did work and it installed with no problems.
I still do not know if the problem was with my internet or with the
download itself.

My new computers run Windows 8.

The original download (that gave errors during install) was the
"official" site:

http://www.libreoffice.org/download

To find another site, I just googled "download Libre Office" and came up
a number of sites.

I do not remember which one I used, but I think it was either:
http://www.download-21.com/libreoffice-20639/
or
http://download.cnet.com/LibreOffice/3000-18483_4-75337651.html
