The Font Colour option is currently broken when displaying the STARTUP
CENTER screen. This is fixed in 4.3. However you can bypass this problem by
reloading the Personas.

I have found that defaulting the Font Colour to RED #ff gives a more
flexible look that suits more Personas than plain BLACK #00. In that
case you can reload a Personas stored on you own system without the need to
restart LibO. Simply use a default header name, in my case Header.jpg for
the Personas, overwrite or rename the exisiting Personas in the folder and
do the following

Remove the Personas TOOLS > OPTIONS > PERSONALIZATION > Plain Look > OK
Reload the Personas TOOLS > OPTIONS > PERSONALIZATION > Own Theme > OK

You can use an image editor such as GIMP to create the Personas, save it
into the /Gallery/Personas folder and you have a basic in-house Personas
management system. Works for me..Peter

Click on Start. There click on Run. You get an input line with label
'Open'. Enter the text

cmd

Now you get a command line window. Enter the following texts and finish
each line with enter.

D:

cd Downloads

msciexec /a LibreOffice_4.1.5_Win_x86.msi

The reaction has a little bit delay. But then the installation wizard of
LibreOffice should start.

It will tell you that the files are to be _extracted_ to a net work
drive. There you get the option to choose the destination, in your case
drive D. It is correct, that this does not add any registry entries to
provide "call by doubleclick". But you can change that later. First you
need to get this extraction and then we will help you with the next steps.

Kind regards

[libreoffice-users] Tips of the week -help needed

2014-04-29 Thread Charles-H. Schulz
Hello everyone,

You may not know about this but every week we release on Twitter a tip of the
week. Zeki started both the idea znd a first list located here:
http://pad.documentfoundation.org/p/marketing (scroll down the page to get it)
. Now what we would need is more tips and not just questions so that we can
continue to spread the tips on a weekly basis.

Interested? You only to write one down the list and no registration is
required.

Thank you,

Charles.

You can relocate the Windows Installer folder (by creating a directory
junction) and the temporary folder (by setting TEMP environental variable).

There are several tutorials available in the Internet.

[libreoffice-users] crash - crash - crash - crash. !@#$#@!

2014-04-29 Thread Tom Cloyd
Everyday, I organize my life around two large LO spreadsheets. I'm
running ver. 4.2.1.1.

Since the last major update (ver. 4.2.1?), my day begins with a serious
of crashes - only after I save both sheets (separately, of course) 6-12
times, each time after some small operation, do they get stable.
Usually. Mostly. Except when they aren't.

I'm doing wild, exotic things like moving rows around, and inserting
rows, or filling in columns with data copied from other columns.

I'm SO ready for the next version.

Anyone have a clue when it's due to land?

Thanks,

t.

Not sure your work flow is going to be stable on any spread sheet
program--too many moving parts.

But if ALL you are interested in is a solid Spreadsheet, perhaps have a look
at an alternative. Gnumeric comes to mind--http://www.gnumeric.org/

Otherwise, the "mature" LibreOffice 4.1.6 is very stable (but at the end of
its development life).

The 4.2.4 "fresh" build is just rolling out now.

But my suggestion would be to test the calc component for 4.3.0 where there
has been very substantive refactoring work to improve its function and
stability. It is available now in its initial alpha build--personally I'd
give that a go--it is here:

Tom,

I should have added a note regards option of doing a parallel installation
so you can test the versions side-by-side to identify the best stability for
your work flow.

See this Wiki page:
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Installing_in_parallel

Stuart

Re: [libreoffice-users] Re: Upgrade Problem on Windows

2014-04-29 Thread James E Lang
Thank you Urmas. I'll try the TEMP environmental variable.

I don't understand this remark of yours: "You can relocate the Windows
Installer folder (by creating a directory junction)"

Someone suggested relocaring Virtual Memory from C:. That indeed serves as a
work around. I now have about 2.5GB available on C:.

I'm still interested in this issue even though there is no longer a _critical_
problem.

Because the temporary directory for your user account resides there.
This dir is used by the installer for decompression of the msi and its
temp storage needs.

Change the temporary directory drive as already suggested:
