Good to know that there is a solution.
Perhaps the documentation team can find time to add this information to the
Base User Guide or Help or somewhere.

  I’m confused.  "https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/UserProfile

also tells me that for Mac OS X, I should look for "/Users//Library/Application Support/libreoffice/4/user (LibreOffice 4)”. I
found “user” under "/Users//Library/Application

Re: [libreoffice-users] Solver kills LiberOffice under Mac OS X.10

2015-01-19 Thread Spencer Graves
Hi, Alex:

  Thanks for the replies.

  Before I received your latest, I filed bug 88544.  I’ve received a
reply asking, “Please specify Java version”, and noting that it “Works for me
with version 4.3.6.0.0+”. With my sample problem A1=1, A2=2, A3=(A1-A2)^2
asking Solver to minimize A3 by varying A1, the tester asked, What is the
correct result? Lo 4.3.6 and 4.5 give different results.” Answer: A2 = 1 (or
within some tolerance like 1e-8).

1. How do I find out (and set) which Java version it’s
trying to use? I found LO preferences but not a Java tab.

2. How can I get the “Solver for nonlinear programming
extension” for OS X.10.1, Windows 7 and Ubuntu 14.04 LTS? A search for it
identified nothing for OS X. What I found for Ubuntu seemed to want to
download something else. I can try the version for Ubuntu again, but I’m
confused.

3. Are there standard instructions for installing multiple
versions of LO in parallel on OS X? I’d like to try LO 4.3.4.1, which worked
for this under Windows 7, and maybe also 4.3.6 and 4.5, which the bug evaluator
said gave different results.

  Thanks,
  Spencer

Andreas,

  Thank you for the explanation.

  The issue needing to be resolved is why Base cannot connect to the SQLite

sqlite3odbc _seem_ to be correctly configured, something needs to be

Re: [libreoffice-users] Writer: Why does adding a table border change the cell margins?

2015-01-19 Thread Steve Edmonds

OK. Something is screwy.
I do 1-5 as you describe.
I can then put the cursor in the top row, Right-click and select Table >
Border, select spacing to contents 0.1 and set a spacing.
I can then put the cursor in the top row, Right-click and select Table >
Border, select spacing to contents 0.0 and the spacing is removed.

I can add/remove spacing to the top row only with Table > Border.

Now if I select the whole table and add spacing, then select the whole
table and remove spacing the table then behaves as one no mater where I
have the cursor when adding or removing spacing.

LO not only adds the borders but also changes the margin of the cells of

because the top and bottom row have a margin of about 0.04 while the
middle row is flush left.

Tony,

  With the help of one subscriber to the unixODBC mail list we may have
found the problem source. Results of two tests:

[rshepard@salmo ~]$ dltest /usr/local/lib/libsqlite3odbc.so SQLConnect
SUCCESS: Loaded /usr/local/lib/libsqlite3odbc.so

and

[rshepard@salmo ~]$ isql -v no-mdf-banquetdb
[S1000][unixODBC][SQLite]connect failed
[ISQL]ERROR: Could not SQLConnect

  'isql' is the CLI for interative use of unixODBC. Perhaps Base uses this
interface and that's why it fails.

for sqliteodbc which I built with the usual configure; make; make install.

  Some progress has been made. The sticking point now is Base not seeing the
DSN or driver. Deleted the existing .odb and started over; here are the
steps and the results:

  1.  File -> New -> Base.
  2. Connect to an existing database; choose ODBC from dropdown list. Next.
  3. Set up connection to the ODBC database (which I thought established
  the DSN): 'Browse' offers two choice: SQLite and the SQLite3 .db
  file name. I select the latter. Next.
  4.  Ignore user authentification. Next.
  5. Save and proceed: accept defaults of registering database and opening
the database for editing. Finish.
  6. Assign an .odb filename and Save.

  See this error message:

  "The connection to the data source '' could not be established.
  "[unixODBC][Driver Manager] Data source name not found, and no driver
specified."

  I thought the DSN was specified in step 3, above. In /etc/unixodbc.ini is
[SQLITE3]
Description = SQLite3 ODBC Driver
Driver  = /usr/local/lib/libsqlite3odbc.so
Setup   = /usr/local/lib/libsqlite3odbc.so
Threading   = 2

  What am I doing incorrectly here?

Hi Tom (et al),

All of the links on the wiki are using urls that will transfer over
during the migration. I just checked the Bug Report page, and
everything looks all set:

Thanks for the question!

[libreoffice-users] Writer: Why does adding a table border change the cell margins?

2015-01-19 Thread Alan Mead
Why does adding a border to a table in Writer change the cell margins?

I paste RTF tables into Writer documents a lot. If you compare the top
(unformatted) and bottom (borders added) tables, you can see that the
first row and the bottom row are slightly indented the "C" in
"Construct" and in "Cautiousness" have been moved slightly to the right
(which has caused the word "Cautiousness" to wrap) while the other two
rows are flush against the left border. This looks tacky. How to I
prevent LO from changing the cell margin when I add borders?

FWIW, here are some things I've tried. I have no idea how to affect the
cell margins, because if I go Table -> Borders, the "Spacing to
contents" is all zero's. The style of a regular table is "Table
Contents" but changing the style to "Table Contents" has no effect.
Also, highlighting the text and selecting "Remove direct formatting" has
no effect.

I think you can duplicate this with a regularly-created table by
creating the table, removing all borders, changing the spacing to
contents to zero, then adding borders.

Alex,

  LO-4.3.5, unixODBC-2.3.2, and sqliteodbc-0.9991, and sqlite-3.8.8 on
Slackware-14.1. I use the build scripts provided on SlackBuilds.org, except
for sqliteodbc which I built with the usual configure; make; make install.

  LO is simply repackaged from the source .rpm into a Slackware
.txz file. Therefore, the version is that downloaded from TDF's LO site.

  AFAIK, each component is the latest version. I've not examined the source
tarball to see if changes are needed, after all, it is a packaged .rpm not
raw source.

Re: [libreoffice-users] Re: What is the current best ODF editing Android Package?

2015-01-19 Thread Tim---Kracked_P_P---webmaster

Well, I tried AOO and EuroOffice for Android. AOO wanted a wider screen
resolution for its toolbar than I had on my 10.1 tablet. Worked, but it
did work. EuroOffice had less features, but it fit on my screen. WPS
was "factory installed" and works fine, for non-ODF documents.

SO I have EuroOffice's Writer and Calc apps installed, along with WPS
Office.

In my experience, so far, nothing is perfect.

If your Android device is a tablet running Kitkat 4.4, then you should
be able to use Microsoft's own, free, Word/Excel/Powerpoint Preview
apps, which are currently in generalized beta testing.

I have tried, WPS Office, Textmaker/Planmaker/Presentations Mobile (paid
app), DocsToGo (paid app), QuickOffice, Olive Office Premium (IMO the
worst of the lot so far), all with varying degrees of success.

Which version of LO are you using ? A distrib provided one, a TDF

versions that the various package maintainers / TDF chooses for unixODBC

Quite simply because it is better, more complete, and more replete with
people knowledgable about how to use LibreOffice/AOO/NeoOffice and has
been for a very long time. That cumulative experience is a goldmine.

Much as I hate to say it, and despite my being a fairly frequent

change in my opinion as long as I continue to be a user of LireOffice.

If you do that, you will use the existing user configuration profile. In
order to exclude user configuration profile effects, you can try the
following :

- download the version of LibreOffice you want to try out ;
- rename your currently installed LibreOffice app bundle to something
else, e.g. LO4352 ;
- now change your user profile configuration folder to the same name as
the just changed app bundle ;
- next, install the newly downloaded version you want to install - drag
and drop to /Applications or any other folder of your choice;
- when you now start the LibreOffice app bundle, it will create a new
