Using LinuxMint v17.1 Rebecca with MATE DE and LibreOffic v4.2.7.2 Build ID 420M0(Build2) I have a three column spreadsheet. Column A. Date - The dates are consecutive Column B. Production - The Production has a daily target of 10,000 units and each production period is of seven days. Column C. a formula every seventh cell. Is it possible to construct a formula which will show in the seventh cell of column C the average for the number of days of production i.e. if day 1 reaches a production of 10,000 units I want this figure entered into the seventh cell in column C. If days 1+2+3+4 total, say, 42,500 I want the seventh cell in column C to show the average of 10,265. In other words I want the average shown for the actual days of production each seven day period. Hi :) Yes, the German version is the original. There has been some very brief discussion about whether all the different example databases are really necessary or if some could be left out or if they could be consolidated or something. It might be better to have a separate document with tons of examples in rather than expecting all translators to translate several different databases just to make 1 or 2 points. If that is possible then it might unblock the English translations! [libreoffice-users] Instability with LO 4.1.2
I upgraded from 4.1.1 to 4.1.2 this week (on Windows 8). I have a fairly complex spreadsheet that worked well on 4.1.1. In 4.1.2: Whenever I try to add a column, Calc crashes with an "unexpected error" (no further detail). I can recover the file and usually a second attempt at adding a column works. Some formulae involving names give incorrect results. If I rewrite them using A1:B2 notation they work. It is significantly slower. I have tried increasing the memory allocated, with no change in behaviour. Help would be welcome, please. Hi Tom, just for your information, the german Base manual is for version 4.4 of LO, in other words hot new. Well at least is what is claimed on their table where they list all manuals they have for Base (from 3.5 to 4.4). [libreoffice-users] Excel file .xls not opening properly
LibreOffice is trying to open a recent file with the extension .xls as if it were a .doc file. When opened directly (by saving the file to the hard drive then double clicking it) I get an error that says "this page uses frames but your browser doesn't support them" and I get only text-style menus and tools. I'm NOT trying to open this in a browser and there's no browser involved when trying to open it. This file was originally generated by Salesforce, which often saves it as if it were an html/web file. But with a save-as operation in MS Excel, the file saves correctly as a spreadsheet file (.xls). I'm using MS Office 2007, so it's not a new file type, and I've had no problems in the past. Any idea what is happening? I've tried opening a blank spreadsheet and inserting from a file, but no luck. Nothing happens when I do that. It is good that you started translating by starting on the Base Handbook. It means you really can work at your own pace because i seriously doubt anyone else is working on it. As you point out it is a good thing to work on but i think people tend to be a bit scared of database programs generally (probably thanks to needless complexity that Access exposes normal users to far too early). I filed an issue for it some time ago https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=83373 The widening is triggered by having a string in the file name box that is longer than the box. With the next use of the dialog, the width has been 'adjusted'. (I often use Ctrl+L, Ctrl+C, ESC in Thunar and then Ctrl+O, Vtrl+V, Enter to open a file. Hi :) The international translator's mailing list is just starting to experiment with translating the "Published Guides", such as the "Base Handbook", using "OmegaT". OmegaT helps in many ways but just one of them is that it seems to track (or identify) what has changed in a newer release of the same guide so that only the changes need to be translated to bring your translation up-to-date. I suspect that they will probably start with the "Getting Started with LibreOffice" guide, then do the "Writer Guide", then the one for Calc and then work through all the rest before ever getting to the Base one(s). If you are alread working on translating the Base Handbook then you would be a huge asset to the translation team of whichever language you are working on. There are a few teams that have worked on translating the guides but it is a struggle, especially until using a decent tool such as OmegaT. The international translators mailing list address is; l...@global.libreoffice.org (capital letters, upper-case and lower-case all get converted to just lower-case by emailing systems so they are only useful for human readers and it really doesn't matter if you get upper and lower case muddled up). Hi :) If you can post the code in an email to this mailing list there are people here who might be able to help directly with possible suggestions for editing the code. It really depends on how long and complicated the code is. Something really long but that turns out to have something very simple and obvious might get a good answer. If the coding shows an interesting problem then people might be interested in having a go at figuring it out. Macros are known to create problems within MS Office and have so often hidden malware that many email systems attempt to filter out any documents that might contain macros. Also when trying to open a document in MS Office nowadays it tends to display an alert and a warning. Additionally each different version of MS Office has slight differences in the code that it can run so you might well have to re-write or at least edit macros in order to use on different versions of MS Office, and then edit again for the next new version. So although moving macro code to LibreOffice presents a few problems it is not much more trouble than you would face trying to get those macros to work properly on other versions of MS Office - but with the advantage that LibreOffice's macros tend to be a LOT safer and don't often need upgrading between different versions of LibreOffice or OpenOffice. LibreOffice also allows people to write "Extensions" / add-ons / plug-ins that tend to be a much better idea than as macro as they can be viewed and even edited without digging around in a single document. There is a special website for LibreOffice Extensions which might already have the functionality you are trying to add. When people publish their Extensions there, if they use an OpenSource license, then other people can help with any bug-fixes or updates in the future. Hi :) At the bottom of this page; http://www.libreoffice.org/download/portable-versions/ are 2 of the "Dvd Projects" which can post you a Dvd (or more) with LibreOffice and a few other OpenSource projects with some extra bits&bobs that you might find useful. Postage might be quite high for some areas. So although these are often kinda "collectors items" you might find it better to use an internet cafe or friend or college computers to download. Just out of curiosity are you trying to download from somewhere other than; http://www.libreoffice.org/download/libreoffice-still/ if so then our official site might be better for you. Also have you tried downloading anything else on that machine. Do you often have trouble? I tend to find that sometimes Windows tries to download into some obscure hidden place that is difficult to find so i have to really dig around to try to find what it's done. Are you using Internet Explorer? If so can you try installing a different web-browser to see if that does the job better? Firefox and Chrome are 2 that a lot of people go for but there are many others. IE is particularly annoying sometimes, especially if it's trying to hide your downloads somewhere odd. Do you have a torrenting client? If so that usually does a better job of making sure you get the full download and it checks and corrects any errors during the process to ensure that any weirdness due to wireless or anything else doesn't create a problem. Which version of Windows are you using? We might be able to figure out how to help you find your downloads if you can let us know which version. Is it Windows 7?
