Re: [libreoffice-users] Outline Numbering

2015-10-05 Thread Virgil Arrington
I think I was too easily persuaded on this matter. As I think about it
further, I think LO is treating the outline numbering wrongly. I've
compared LO with LaTeX and LaTeX treats the heading numbering differently.

Let's keep it simple for my illustration. In LO, let's say I have three
heading styles (Heading 1, Heading 2, and Heading 3). If I put them in
order, I get (properly):

1. Heading 1
1.1 Heading 2
1.1.1 Heading 3

This corresponds to LaTeX's Section, Subsection, and Subsubsection
environments, which appear as follows (again properly):

1. Section
1.1 Subsection
1.1.1 Subsubsection

But, if I switch the second and third headings, LO and LaTeX provide
different results. In LO, I get

1. Heading 1
1.1.1 Heading 3
1.2 Heading 2

but, with LaTeX, I get,

1. Section
1.0.1 Subsubsection
1.1 Subsection

I think LaTeX's treatment is mathematically more correct. Until I actual
use the second heading, it's value should remain "0", which is reflected
in LaTeX's second example. But, LO gives it a value of "1" even though
I've not yet used it. Thus, in LO, my first use of the second Heading is
given a value of "2" as in 1.2, whereas in LaTeX, my first use of the
second heading is given a value of 1 as in 1.1.

I think LaTeX has it right.

I tried changing the starting value of Heading 2 to "0", but that messes
things up when I use the levels in order, so that's not the solution.

Funny thing is that I've just noticed this behavior. I don't recall
seeing this happen in earlier versions of LO. I'm currently using 4.4.5.2.

In fact, I just loaded two LO documents, one an old one where the
numbering acts like LaTeX, and a newer one, where the numbering acts
like the current LO. My outline numbering settings are the same and my
styles are similar (with different names). For the life of me I can find
no setting between the two documents that is different that could
explain the different style of outline numbering. I'll keep looking, but
for now, it's just weird.

I've noticed other strange behavior with LO's outline numbering.
Sometimes, the "Position" settings are in terms of the "width of the
numbering." At other times, it is in terms of what is placed after the
number, a space, tab, or nothing.

curiouser and curiouser.

I think skipping outline numbering levels, in this case from level 1
(Heading 1) to level 6 (Outline 1) implicitly inserts the
intermediate levels for numbering purposes. It's more obvious with
styles which show all the numbering levels. e.g. if you were to
insert a Heading 5 after the Heading 1, it is numbered 2.1.1.1.1, as
if there were a 2.1, 2.1.1 and 2.1.1.1 in between. Thus the next
Heading 2 inserted is 2.2:

  1. Heading 1
   1.1.1.1.1 Heading 5
   1.1.1.1.2 Heading 5
  2. Heading 1
   2.1.1.1.1 Heading 5
  2.2 Heading 2

Mark.

Thanks. That makes sense. So my problem was trying to combine heading
and outline styles in a single series of 10 outline levels. My outline
styles essentially became subordinate heading styles.

[libreoffice-users] Liberation fonts vs Google croscore fonst

2015-10-05 Thread Bastián Díaz
Hi, this must be an old topic but I wonder why LibreOffice does not use
the full set of google croscore fonts.

Currently, LibreOffice includes Caladea and Carlito replacing Cambria
and Calibri fonts. However, LibreOffice does not include the fonts
Arimo, Tinos and Cousine (replacing Arial, Times New Roman and Courier),
from my point of view and testing, google fonts do a better job than the
liberation fonts: better visualization, metric gauge more compatible
with microsoft fonts, increased support glyph, etc.

From what I've read, since version 2.0 of Liberation Fons is a fork of
google croscore fonts ... but in practice do not appear.

Is there any reason to prefer Liberation fonts over google croscore
fonts?

RE: [libreoffice-users] Re: I Would Like to Learn a Macro Language LO 5.0

2015-10-05 Thread Steve
Andreas,
Thank you for your reply. You made some excellent points that make sense.
JavaScript is one of the options that I was considering because I would then be
able to use my knowledge for other programs that have adopted JavaScript as
their macro language of choice (like Google Docs). At the same time, I have no
desire to jump from macro writing to full programming. I love my profession,
but I would like to enhance my day to day usage of LibreOffice to save clicks
of the mouse and pecks on the keyboard. A few basic macros would allow me to
add functionality that may not be practical features for the LibreOffice
programmers to code for releases. I thought it might be best to just use
StarBasic by studying the materials that Andrew Pitonyak has provided and other
sources that I highlighted in my first message thinking it might be the fastest
way to accomplish the tasks I wanted to do.

I would be interested in hearing your thoughts on learning JavaScript (also
what resources you recommend) and using that as my macro language of choice
with LibreOffice.

entry point I can think of. You will have a very hard learning
exprerience because UNO is far too big and too complex for a beginner.
No matter how far you get with UNO and StarBasic, you will not end up as
a programmer.
UNO makes professional programmers cry and StarBasic does not make
anything easier because this language is out of date, buggy, poorly
documented, does not fit into its UNO surrounding, offers a very poor
set of functionality (compared to JavaScript and Pyhon) and it is
totally useless outside its UNO cage. The old literature on Visual Basic
does not apply very well and the existing literature presumes that you
are a (VBA-)programmer already.
This is like learning how to fly in a 747 cockpit (UNO) sitting on a
garden chair (StarBasic) as pilot seat.
Learning object oriented programming with Java, JavaScript or Python is
easy nowadays. Coming back to UNO with certain concepts and tools will
take you much further with less effort.

My guess would be, that he has some flavour of Windows on his machines.
How you can disable the functionality, that you cannot install some

If nothing works, I would vote for re-installing Windows, but maybe someone

[libreoffice-users] LO-Base

2015-10-05 Thread Heinrich Stoellinger

Hello,
I have been using OO/LO for more than a decade now and have liked it most of the
time. At the moment I have to print labels from a MySQL database connected
through
JDBC. My system is Linux-Mint 17.2 and LO 5.0.2. I also use the same LO version
on a Debian 8 and Windows 7 system. I have the following problems (which I did
NOT
have before):
(1) LO does not honor my action when I try to change the database source for the
DB-fields. In fact, on the labels there are 4 variables which should come from a
particular view in the database. When I specify "change database", only ONE of
the
fields points to the view in the "new" database. I have tried saving/closing and
reloading the Write file that contains the references to the DB-fields, even
shutting down LO and restarting - no success!
(2) In the writer file I define a varying number of lables that should get their
data filled from an equivalent number of selected database records. I specify
"next DB-record" in the last field of every label (except of course the last
label).
In the case of only 2 labels (2 DB-records), LO only prints the first one. When
I try to print 6 labels for example, it only prints numbers 1, 3, 5.
Very annoying! It always used to function without problems. I have tried things
out also on LO 4.4.5 (running on Debian, Mint, and Windows 7) -- same result.
The same also happens when connecting to the DB using the native MySQL
connector.
It seems to me that Base has been a kind of stepchild in LO. To me (and my
guess is -- also to most serious users in enterprise environments), this is a
unacceptable situation.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have a link to where you found the above quote?

e.g. here: https://help.libreoffice.org/Common/Programming

That is helpcontent2/source/text/shared/main0600.xhp

And that line is in there ever since

"#i33146# Initial checkin," which confirms my assumption that it is a
dead, historic remark.

Best would be to remove it. But I don't have looked which bookmarks and
index entries have to be changed then. At least the section
'id="basicalt"' has to be removed totally. The current one is in
helpcontent2/source/text/sbasic/shared/main0601.xhp.

Please write a bug report.

So I'll leave it to others who are knowledgeable about helpcontent2 to
get this fixed.

Do you have a link to where you found the above quote? At least taken
out of context, it looks very wrong. (So I would assume "old
programming interface" and "current version" actually refer to ancient
history, fully irrelevant now.)

[libreoffice-users] LibreOffice converting as service Performance Issue

2015-10-05 Thread Vicky Chawda
Hello Folks,

1. Calling it Directly
sh /opt/libreoffice5.0/program/soffice --headless --convert-to pdf
/opt/libreoffice5.0/program/sample.rtf

2. Start Libre as a service and making a call by unoconv
i. soffice --nologo --headless --nofirststartwizard
--accept='socket,host=127.0.0.1,port=2220,tcpNoDelay=1;urp'
ii. unoconv --connection
'socket,host=127.0.0.1,port=2220,tcpNoDelay=1;urp;StarOffice.ComponentContext'
-f pdf

I have created a Service which accepts .rtf file and converts it to .pdf
and sends it back.

I have used following two solutions,

1. Calling it Directly
sh /opt/libreoffice5.0/program/soffice --headless --convert-to pdf
/opt/libreoffice5.0/program/sample.rtf

2. Start Libre as a service and making a call by unoconv
i. soffice --nologo --headless --nofirststartwizard
--accept='socket,host=127.0.0.1,port=2220,tcpNoDelay=1;urp'
ii. unoconv --connection
'socket,host=127.0.0.1,port=2220,tcpNoDelay=1;urp;StarOffice.ComponentContext'
-f pdf

but none of them is performing well as a Web Service.
LibreService gets crashed after 5 concurrent Requests.
I want to Optimize it at least upto 50.

Kindly Suggest.

Thnak You.
ViCky Chawda.

Re: [libreoffice-users] Find & Replace in Calc

2015-10-05 Thread Rob Jasper
Try:

Select whole column
Edit -> find&replace
enter in "search for" : [0-9]+,[0-9]+,
Leave "replace with" blank
Click "other options"
mark "regular expressions"

click "replace all"

The reg expression above expects at least 1 digit before the first comma and
between the commas.
If this is not the case (the value can also be ..Text), then replace the "+"
with "*" in above regular expression

Success,

Rob.
