In the status bar quite left to the zoom slider are three icons depicting single page, two pages and book. Klick the single page icon. Try View > Zoom > 150% (or something like that) Also with View > Zoom > Zoom... you can fix the selection to View Layout Single Page or choose the number of columns (=pages) you want to see.
