Good afternoon and thank you everyone.
The trick with the Customize menus seems to work. I searched the
available commands and found TWO named "ePub" - they look identical but
have different functions. One is the "export ..." thing already visible,
the other the "Export as ...", which I now added to the contents menu.
Now, THIS problem has been solved. It "works", but Draft2Digitial still
rejects the result, showing me a number of errors. Someone suggested to
upload a .docx file. That does not work either. The publisher INSISTS on
getting an "ePub3" file, but then complains about a million things.
While I do not recall, what exactly I did, I finally got my file
accepted. The publishers (automated) note says "Looks good", but in the
same breath adds: "it would be better to use "ePub2", or else our highly
advertised added services (like adding a TCO, copyright page etc.) will
no longer be available." And the resulting ePub file looks, with all due
respect, like s**t: all same font size, no headings, no TOC, very
strange layout. What the h**l then is the merit of using epub3? Maybe I
should look for a different publisher. Thomas

On my Linux Debian 11 system, running LO 7.5.8, the 'Export as' option is also
missing. However, using your method I was able to add it with one small change.
Because the 'Export as' submenu was missing, in the tools > customize dialog, I
had to click on the 'Insert' button, and select 'Add submenu'. Then I added the
'Export as' submenu, and then added the 'Epub', 'Epub direct', 'PDF', and 'PDF

Thomas,

I too have the options you are looking for, but not sure why. The only
thing I can think is that the option has not been made available on the
File menu. So...

Try going to "Tools" to "Customize" (sorry, I have my interface in
Spanish, but that's what it normally would be) and in the popup for
"Menus", on the right "Categories", list all commands and scroll down.
There should be two EPUBs listed. Hovering over one will show "command:

your time reading this, and I'm sorry.

Best of luck,
Roy

* My versions of LO Writer have in the "File:Export as" destination
come with four options: Export as pdf..., Export directly as pdf,
Export as EPUB..., Export directly as EPUB.

Re: [libreoffice-users] template question.

2024-06-25 Thread LO . Harald . Berger

Hi Chris,

create a real document template in OTT format.

Generate your documents from this and save them as ODT, always!

Use Save as to create DOCX files that you want to pass on.

https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Videos/Document_Templates_in_Writer

Find out here why this is the better way and there may otherwise be
compatibility problems:

https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Faq/General/118

I hope you get on with it. Good luck.

Kind regards

Even though I'm using an older version on linux, 7.3.7.2, I still get all the
options as shown in the image you referenced. And it displays epub3 by default.
So it's strange that your version doesn't have this.

My W10 box has 7.6.6.3, and it too shows the same image with epub3 selected by
default. To get it, I follow this path:  File > Export as > Export as epub ...
and there it is, one of four options - 2 for pdf and 2 for epub.

Curiously, and I hadn't noticed this before, when I use: File > Export ..., I
can see in the file format drop down list an option for export to epub but no
mention of epub3 so I suppose it's epub2.

In the past, before Writer supported a native epub export, we had to install an
extension, Writer2xhtml, which used to work well. In those days, we accessed it by
File > Export and in the resulting dialog box, select file format from the
drop down list { for example: EPUB3 [Writer2xhtml] (.epub) }.

I gave up using this because the extension didn't seem to be maintained for
later versions of LO.  But I also wasn't impressed with the native Writer epub
export either so I now use Sigil with its input extension for importing .odt
files.  This is my preferred work flow these days. With Sigil, you retain
complete control and if you've set up the styles well in Writer, they come out
ok in Sigil. Sigil is a free software tool available for Windows, linux, Mac
(both Intel and arm versions). But like with most things in life, there is a
learning curve.

Another way you could try is to export your document from Writer as a Word
.docx and then let Draft2Digital's converter take the strain.

Philip

Don't know what to tell you.

The "File" --> "Export As" --> "Export as EPUB..." entries are present

There are two entries for EPUB. One is the dialog (with the ellipsis...)
