Re: [libreoffice-users] Re: Page formatting in writer goes nuts
I adjust the following option. Menu: Tools -- Options -- LibreOffice Writer -- Automatic caption -- untick "LibreOffice Writer image" After that, when I copy an image it get a character anchor, but if I insert an image from a file on disk it gets a paragraph anchor. Do you have a lot of embedded images or anything like that? Perhaps link to them instead of embedding them? If you do then it might be best to put the file in a folder of it's own and then put a short-cut to it where-ever you currently have the file. Then all the images can be in the folder with it, or copies of them, so as to make it easier to keep track of the images. 3. Are you using the spreadsheet as a database? It can be a good way to start off but you have long past the point where you need a proper database. You will find the total file-size probably drops dramatically when you do move it. To start with you might find it easiest to use Base to read the existing spreadsheet but it would be better to start moving all that data into a more suitable back-end. 4. In LibreOffice have you changed the "memory" settings yet? If not then Tools - Options - Memory and dramatically increase pretty much everything in there. [libreoffice-users] Re: How to stop toolbars from popping up
The opposite is just fine. Have it permanently activated is better if you constantly works documents with several tables and graphics, because you will need access quickly some functions the bars provides, for instance, some setting in table properties or establishing names to tables and graphics. Activate the bars from the menu. Place it at your left or your right. Another position, is like a small box over an area like the navigator or the stylist bar. Use a zoom that leves a minimum margin between the "paper" and the window space available, to avoid the constant movement due to change in the zoom level to adjust to a new margin because a new bar, reduce the windows space. Sometimes, the bars get deactivated. [libreoffice-users] Re: Can't find setting
I repeated the experiment. LibreOffice 4.1.0.4 Linux Libertine G, 12 pt. I wrote a name with a initial, with and without a dot. The space between words is highlighted to make clear its width. To aling the two paragraphs, used a dot at the start of the first group of words. Both paragraphs are left aligned, therefore any change in space should be for a proportional space between after a dot different from the space between words. In this case, the space should be less than a normal space as in Dr._Name. From the image 14, you can see that isn't any difference in spacing. Repeating the experience with justification, the spacing is expanded a little, but I can't see clearly if its only after punctuations or also between words. Look at the second image (screenshot15). Conclusion: LibreOffice does not change the interword spacing in an intelligent manner as LaTeX does, being this software the best example of superb typography. So, if any typist use two spaces after and end of sentence dot, is in average reducing the interword spacing and increasing the end of sentence spacing in a visible manner. Also, this problem is not also from an end of sentence. It is also, for the space after the titles (Mr.[space]name) and for the space after ':' and after ';'. It is also known that in France, must be a small space before the end of sentence dot. -- To unsubscribe e-mail to: users+unsubscr...@global.libreoffice.org Problems? http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/how-to-unsubscribe/ Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/global/users/ All messages sent to this list will be publicly archived and cannot be deleted

[libreoffice-users] Re: Can't find setting
LaTeX which is known as a standard with typography of technical and mathematical documents, use a wider space after the end of sentence point, than the space between words. Even more, the inter word space is dependent of the main font size (the optical size) and is stretchable. That's why I don't accept the usual convention that don't use double space after the end of sentence point, because LibreOffice does not have way to insert end of sentence spaces.

[libreoffice-users] Re: LO 4.0.3.3: 'Insert: Horizontal rule' is missing
The style 'horizontal line' does exist. It format a paragraph with a double line of 0.3 pt height (or depth). You can modify the width to 3.05 pt to have a nice double horizontal line, coloured grey. If we use '---' or '___' or '~~~" will get wider lines, of grey color. Of course, this is different from an image of a line.
